It’s 4am. We are on our way to the airport. Its early. We are tired. I need no airport crap. But of course is that the way it happened. Uh, no.
So charlotte and I get through security and head over to get something to eat. Something about being up that early basically makes you feel like your stomach is eating itself.
I’m holding my laptop bag, her hand, the stroller, and a Dr. Pepper and Orange juice. I try to get a banana from the counter and cant reach it. Its too far back and my hands are full so I wait till I am checking out and ask the lady behind the counter to get it. This is the conversation that ensues:
(scene: me laying items on counter)
me: “Can I get a banana please? I cant reach it”
She looks at me. Dumbfounded. Clearly she doesnt realize she is working customer service. She HUFFS at me. She walks over to get it and on the way back she ROLLS HER EYES to her c0-worker and mouths to her “couldn’t get it”.
I see it.
Now its about 5am and Im tired and I just couldn’t help myself.
Me: “You don’t have to be rude that I couldn’t reach it”
Her: “What?!”
She assumed either I didn’t see her or wouldn’t call her out.
Me( very slowly and sarcastically repeating): : You. Dont. Have. To. Be. Rude. That. I. Couldn’t. Reach. The. Banana.”
Her ” Whats your name?”
Me: “Trisha.”
Silence.
Her: “I wasn’t talking about you. I was talking about the chef.”
I just looked at her. Now im trying not to roll MY eyes. The line is getting longer. Chef? Its a freaking bagel shop. Now I get it. She is delusional.
Me: “Uh, huh.”
Her: ” You have a NICE day.”
Me: “Yeah. Sure.”
The lesson here is that if you do sneaky, snotty things in front of a customer cause you hate your job, dont be surprised if you meet someone like me who calls you out on it. She was lucky I had to catch a flight.

OMG- Today in Walmart of all places I had a similar experience, however my usual ignore the rude customer service person self could no longer take the abuse.
Attempting to return an item that did not serve its purpose, when I purchased the item all of the inserts were not in the box, hence- that’s why I’m returning it-DUH, however instead of just taking it back the CSR (customer service rep) commenced to ask me 4 times was there anything wrong with the item- after giving her the answer 4 times and looking at her roll her eyes, make snide remarks to her co-worker I told her to have a nice day working at walmart- apparently she did not like that and went on and on about how she’s a college student so I said that it was hard to tell with the attitude and if I were a secret shopper she would have gotten a very bad review-don’t get me wrong I have nothing against working at walmart- I’ve worked at walmart and I hated it, another reason why I run my own business however, I was never rude to the customers- I made it a point to be friendly no matter how rude- anyway just thought I’d vent- LOL
If you can’t be nice to the customers, YOU shouldn’t work in a CUSTOMER SERVICE oriented job. DUH!
Good for you, Trisha for saying something. I would have done the same thing, only not as nicely AND I would have asked to speak to her manager.
Oh, I would have sooo gone postal on her a$$. LOL

PS- I got the Train Set today!! Well, I’m assuming since its a big box labeled from a toy company, LOL! I’m not even going to open the box until July (Andys bithday) because if I see how cool it looks, have NO self restraint & I’ll end up setting it up today instead of for his birthday!! =X So, come July I’ll be sure to take pics of Andy as he keels over with shock!! Thank you guys for running that awesome giveaway!!!
It’s even more fun to do that to a McD’s manager when you’re an 18yo kid eating there with your volleyball team. All I wanted was a quarter pounder with no cheese and a bun that wasn’t soaked with grease. I didn’t think it was rocket science. My favorite part – she looked at my coach and coach just smiled.
I also have that same problem with getting up early, I get the same feeling that my stomach is eating itself.

Sounds like this woman doesn’t realize that she’s lucky to have a job in this economy. She’s not smart enough not to do anything to risk losing it.
