Small Talk Six: Foods I Love, But My Family Loathes

smalltalksix-298x300Want to join in? Go here to learn how and to view the weekly Small Talk Six topics for 2010.

Today’s topic is “6 things you love to eat, but rarely get to because at least one other person in your household does not care for it.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

This list was actually pretty easy for me to make.  My husband is a little weird about certain foods that have slimy or oily textures.  My 3yr old twins are also extremely picky eaters.  Then throw in the fact that my heritage is Chinese and I’ve been exposed to some unusual foods throughout my life . . . things my husband would never touch.

Here are my six for this week:

1)  Brocolli

2)  Fried Bean Curd

3)  A lot of dim sum foods, such as Steamed Turnip Cake, Cheung Fan, and Egg Custard Tarts.

4) Dried Preserved Plums

5)  Pizza topped with one or more of the following: onions, green peppers, or pineapple

6)  Fried eggs or egg omelettes

Now go post your own list on your blog (don’t forget to grab a button) and then leave the direct link to your post on Mr. Linky. Then go check out everyone else’s Small Talk Six lists and leave them a comment so they know you stopped by. If for some reason Mr. Linky isn’t there, just leave your links within a comment.

  1. I just bookmarked your site, so glad I found it

When it comes to food, it is just a state of mind for me., that is what i am trying to tell my husband and daughter, think that it is delicious and it will be delicious :>

Also, eating should be determined if your doing it for the stomach or for your body’ health.. that makes it easier to eat :>

  3. Seems like it’s a common thing with men hating to try new things. Does anyone have a man who will? We go to a restaurant and, if I could wager money on what Ben will order, I’d be a rich woman.
Anyone have a man who hates potatoes? Mine is part Irish redhead and gripes every time I make potatoes in any form… even french fries. It’s depressing. lol.

  4. Ok, so I have to warn you: Technically, I didn’t answer the question. That is, I came at it from the opposite direction, for reasons that will become obvious when you read it :D

  5. Cheryl says:

I would try all of those! I guess #1 on my list would be avocadoes. I LOVE them and my family hates them!

  6. Fried eggs and omelettes? How can you not like those?! I would have a hard time with that!

  7. sarah says:

I sometimes order these things when eating out because I know nobody will want to share….or eat my leftovers :)

  8. Lucy says:

I dont know what fried bean curd is but it doesnt sound good. Ill have to agree on 1 and 4.

  9. Daenel says:

Great list. I’m with your husband on the bean curd but I would try everything else. I lived in Korea for a year and loved trying new foods.
