What Kind of Nuts Are In Your Family Tree?

Today’s topic is “6 things you love or hate about spending time with your or your significant other’s relatives.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .
There are things that I love about both my and my husband’s families. Then there are some things that I don’t like so much about both sides. This might be a dangerous topic. It will be interesting to see what other people put on their lists.
Here are my six for this week:
1) I LOVE how my relatives always view children as precious and they always make my children feel special and very loved when they see them during the holidays.
2) I HATE how my husband’s side of the family view children as something to show off and pass around. None of them ever ask about how the children are really doing, how my son is liking kindergarten, or anything that is important in their lives.
3) I HATE that my MIL always gives my children gifts every time she sees them and these gifts are always saturated with the smell of cigarette smoke.
4) I LOVE that there is always excellent food at my cousin’s house for Christmas dinner every year.
5) I LOVE that my MIL never fails to make my children smile.
6) I HATE that we are the ones who are always expected to make the nearly 2hr drive (each way) to see my husband’s side of the family and, when we do make that drive, they still lay a big guilt trip on us for not visiting more often.

1. I love the way my nephew’s wife is always interested in my kids lives.
2. I hate that we don’t know how grandpa is more often(doesn’t answer phone)
3. I hate that some of the family lives more than a couple hours away
4. I hate that we only see them a few times a year
5. I love when we do get together that we all laugh and have fun
6. I love that we can catch up some on facebook
I hope my entries count. I am a hospice nurse and was out visiting patients for 12 hours and counted play until now.

When do all of you start decorating? We start Thanksgiving weekend.
I found out about Santa because I recognized my Mom’s handwriting. SO now I have a neighbor write my tags that are from Santa.
Does anyone use different wrapping paper for Santa?
