I am a social media guru. You may bow. And kiss my feet while you are there.

In all seriousness, I have been witness to some pretty shoddy “advice” lately online. While I am in absolute support of people making a buck AND finding a creative way to do so, be careful of who you are purchasing from. Much of the information that is “sold” can be easily figured out from Google or for free in exchange sites like Mom Bloggers Club, Type A Mom, and the MomDot forums.
Recently on MomDot, several girls came to the site very upset that another blogger was saying if you suck, you should just quit. Although, I think we vary on the definition of “suck” cause I think her advice sucked. No one should ever leave a session feeling bad about themselves. Its counter productive to “teaching” someone to grow.
EPIC FAIL.
My advice to you is that there is no such thing as a method to blogging. There are ways to fine tune and make your site flow better, yes, but there is no amount of technology that is going to replace personality.
If you work hard, if you find a niche, if you’re the best in that niche, if you get lucky, if you’re like-able or hate-able, and you work harder then you have ever worked before, you may pull in $500 a month and 3,000 visitors a day- a year or two from now. It won’t happen overnight and you will probably quit or change focus before you ever get there. Think of blogging like charity…you do it because you want to, not because you expect anything back.
Don’t give up on who YOU are, your fun, your community, your willingness to share, to grow, to enjoy yourself because of some pre-bought definition of online success. And be careful (in all facets of life) of fooling yourself into thinking you can purchase that success.
You may find that you are just purchasing a hard earned lesson.

Oh “experts”, I haven’t left you out, here is some advice…and its free *gasp*:
1) Don’t use the word ‘retarded’ while giving out blog advice. Its insulting. And ignorant.
2) Don’t tell people to quit if they suck. You suck. You quit. You quit for saying that. Cause you suck.
3) Don’t insult the audience you are talking to by pretending you are better than them. If you were better, you wouldn’t be in the same space. If you don’t like it, LEAVE. Don’t let the red X hit you on the way out of the blogosphere.
4) Be successful BEFORE you give advice. 200 visitors a day to a site doesn’t qualify as chargeable rates.
5) Humble yourself. This one is going to be pretty hard, but I thought I would throw it out there.
P.S. I would link this person, but my links cost $25 a month.

1. Props on the South FL sweaty!
2. LMAO at the shoulder brush
This is Lisa’s hubby and I just watched you. I have to say| You are fucking awesome”
WOW looks like Jen got another one of her “classy” friends to defend her tired ass whoa-is-me-I’m-always-the-victim side of every damn thing!
Aren’t they so classy!
To the chick that is trying to get her links on my page below (and yes, I took them out). Say what you want, but dont SPAM my visitors. thankyousomuch.
And, this is in all seriousness, who are you? Call you names? I really (and quite obviously) have no problems talking shit TO someone. I really have no idea who you are right now. I don’t recognize your name or your blog. BTW, that would not be “third party”, that would be “chip on shoulder mom blogger”. I can promise you I don’t say things that
1) I dont mean
2) I dont care if someone knows I said it
I mean, when your up, your up. You were giving me kudos in June on a post. I checked…
*shrugging shoulders*
Cant win them all!
Trisha
Honey. Trisha. Honey. You are a capitalist. I just wanted to tell you in case you didn’t hear it the first time.
and you are from alabama. Not sure how that is relevant but I wanted to remind you of that too.
cause you put a bug up karie’s butt at some point. lol
Oh and because you have such a loud voice in social media, you should post this stuff. it makes people nervous. roflma
Ok, while you made me laugh(& everyone already said that), your cat was crackin me up! Walkin by with an “Oh man, what is she doing now?” attitude! What I learned today…By Kim~I need to quit. I don’t have the followers or the page hits! ; )
Wow as a member of VIP I didn’t know that was advice? I have NEVER seen advice given on there. and I’d totally pay $6 for it. But I’m just one of the voiceless sheep. BAAAAA
Thats only for VIP VIP members. LOL
I guess I’m just not “exclusive” enough yet for VIP VIP. How much is that again? 49.95 or my first born? LOL
SERIOUSLY when the hell did you start telling people they can’t be a part of the community cause they aren’t exclusive? I missed that Memo in the EWEsletter!
LMAO!!!!!
She got it wrong..we let everyone IN, we just kick people OUT. Sore feelings, blah blah. Cry me a river.
Guess they should learn to follow the rules!
1.Monday-wear pink
Tuesday-Wear pink
etc etc etc
2. sing We love Trisha everyday
3. Never use your voice, EVER.
Thank you Trisha for saying what many of us have been thinking, and saying among emails and forum chats for the past few days. Gotta love people who decide they are the experts and then decide to share their knowledge with us poor folk who can’t seem to be as er….classy.
LOL! This seriously made my morning! I want to dance now! I bet if I do though I’d have to pay an “expert” to charge me on how I need to better my dancing or just tell me to quit!!!!
WOW!! That was an ass-smacking, dorito-chomping, soda-guzzling, stripper pole vacuuming good time!!
The only thing that could make it better would be an obnoxious egg timer for your 3 minute consultation.
Super cute jeans by the way.
I’m curious, playing devil’s advocate here (as a third party not involved with either you nor the person you are clearly belittling)….what does it matter if someone charges for a service? Even if YOU think it’s absurd? Is that called laissez faire…..capitalism at its finest? In fact don’t you charge a fee to people in your community to have access to some VIP section for selling PR info or what have you? But I am sure you will recant and change the subject…call me a troll or stalker. Something really adult-like and productive.
Oh no, i dont recant, are you kidding? I said right in the post, i love if people find a way to do things creative…its just that when you listen to not one, not two, but many bloggers feel badly about themselves from an “expert”, it really grates the shit out of your nerves. Its one thing to charge for something, if you have a product or a skill, its another to insult, berate, and belittle people into thinking you are better than them-and charge them for it.
Regarding VIP, yep, we do charge $6 for hosting the monthly co-op. But we are not selling advice. Its a private website where participating bloggers can leave, or pick up, ongoing review/giveaway pitches from each other OR from participating PR. In short, its a review and giveaway job board and a massive time saver for all involved. We work w/ PR to offer the opps to bloggers and also other bloggers bring opps in. Simple as that. The $6 fee not only helps cover the 300K+ page views on the forums monthly, but also keeps spammers out and only serious reviewers in.
Momdots classes, when we have them, are all free and start out with a disclaimer about NOT being the best, first, or only place to find information. We simply pass on a few techy tricks, but I wouldn’t charge someone for those.
Even if this blog rocks.
But to get to why I care…I care because I run a community of strong, awesome women that care and someone needs to the voice of them and how badly they feel when someone tells them to QUIT blogging if they don’t reach a “level” of expectations.
And im sorry, but that’s just scammy to me.
I have a hard time thinking that you find it ok for anyone to tear someone else down for cash and call it capitalism. If you want me to buy that…fine.
Those who dont agree with me are welcome to purchase whatever “tips” to turn them into dooce from people who are not dooce….but Ill still enjoy making fun of them.
We call that ‘freedom of expression’.
Trisha
Well I have a hard time reading your type written vomit of you are a community. If you are then you support EVERYONE. You don’t choose sides, you stay neutral, no matter how much you disagree. That my dear girl is called having BALLS, sometimes having BIGGER BALLS is holding your tongue. Also your community as you call it…you pick and choose WHO YOU see fit, not everyone gets to be a part am I right? I have watched your hand in that as a spectator…or will you call me a stalker? Regardless…sticks and stones.
Besides I think too many times you call people trolls for the same GOD DAMN thing you do which is have a “freedom of expression,” they express their opinion and what do you do? Attack. Name Call. So maybe you should double check that white horse you ride in on and sit upon and see that maybe your horse is more of an donkey. HEE HAW.
Also I never said ANYONE, including YOU, was okay to tear someone down for cash…but hell you do it for free right Trish? What I did say is that if someone charges a fee to learn something that takes HOURS of surfing the web for…good for them, that my dear is capitalism. They charge for their time and service just like YOU DO, for your SERVICE.
Seriously, these bloggers you are standing up for…why are they blogging if they can’t find their voice, their own voice to speak up if this is REALLY what is going on? Secondly, NOT YOUR PLACE!! It’s their problem, either grow a set or get over it. “Your community” or not….you attract drama like stink on shit. If you really are a community start acting like it, accept everyone for who they are, what they may bring to the table and learn to put your petty differences aside.
OMG. I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time.
Thank you…whew…that was fabulous.
Trust me, I have no differences with anyone. This was just a PSA. Civic duty. If someone isn’t scamming new bloggers, then really it doesn’t really pertain to them, kwim? The old..if you are not doing anything wrong, there is no need to feel guilty.
You know, for someone so “third party”, you sure are hot under the collar.
~Trisha
PS And i dont care if you sit here and respond to me all day…it keeps the page views alive!! That tip is free…
Sure I don’t mind…I am all about support honey, besides, I am sure getting clicks through to my blog to see about me, who I am to stand up to the “Great and Powerful OZ” (aka the little person behind a big sham). I am glad you laughed…because really…you should…at how sad you are that you are a big fat hypocrite. Really I am not hot under the collar about the subject, or scam artists as you call them…I was really playing third party to see if you had an intelligible answer…which was “Trisha Trisha Trisha.” You see I don’t get mad…that takes too much energy. So to say this was your civic duty? To whom? Yourself…as usual.
I mean really, who do you truly think you are? From what I see….you are just a small town Alabamagirl who wants the attention and success like Dooce, but you don’t have the heart, the talent, tact or couth…
I just don’t like that you call people names, probably because you called me names once…and didn’t have the BALLS to say it to my face, nope you retreated, GAWD I didn’t even get that blog post you promised. So why don’t you come tell m> to my face..I mean truly….how low can anyone go. An opinion is one thing…but name calling is another. Sheesh. Show everyone how shallow and mean you really are to others…do that civic duty.
LMAO Trisha!
I was getting ready to respond to this woman…
I have my own voice, Karie, as do ALL the women who are a part of MomDot. Do you want to know why Trisha is choosy about who she lets in? It’s called wanting only the good, drama free women in the forum. She wants people with integrity, morals and values there, not just some random schemer. This is why our community is so strong. We don’t belittle each other, we don’t stab each other in the back and we don’t tolerate those who do. It’s drama free in there and it’s wonderful.
Having been the recipient of some of the selfless generosity of this community, I can tell you that we all care about and support one another unconditionally. Is it always rainbows and unicorns? Uh, no. But we’re HONEST there and that makes a huge difference. It is also a place where we can go and talk about anything freely and without judgement. Trisha does not put up with drama, plagiarism, cheating or bad behavior. You will be deleted if you break the rules. She does this so we can feel safe and free there without fear that we will be talked about, called out or otherwise abused by anyone online. Those are called STANDARDS. Sorry if you are having trouble understanding that, but those of us in the forum truly appreciate having an administrator who looks out for, has a real relationship with and sticks up for us all.
The members of MomDot are the best, most generous, caring helpful women I have ever met and I am proud to call them my friends.
Trisha does not speak for us because we are all capable of speaking for ourselves. This video was pointing out the IRONY of someone calling themselves an expert while charging for bullshit and presenting herself quite unprofessionally online and on video.
It was SATIRE, one of the truest forms of HUMOR.
OMG you will treat my email as a priority?? Im all fucking over that hahahahah
OMG!! Seriously dying!
You’re BRILLIANT!
(Don’t let it go to your head and start charging us for forum memberships! LMAO)
THIS is why I love CrackDot.
I love you T. Because you are honest and real. Sometimes, we all wish we could be that honest. You make so many valid points. And don’t ever say you are not skinny, because I just saw ur skinny butt dancing around on that vlog.
OMG! I LOVED IT!!! You freaking ROCK! Everything was 110,938,485,384% right.on! Great job Trisha!
Trisha you crack me up
Thats insane about paying for information, when if you look hard enough you can find it out there for free….You Rock Trisha
THIS is why I love you lol. In all seriousness though she needs to be taught a very frank lesson in life.
Kasandria
LMAO oh that was awesome…so wait when am I quiting LOL I don’t even know how many visitors I have per day
BTW my kiddo wants to come to your house…are you available LOL
That was freaking hilarious!! I suppose I should just give up since I have like 5 visitors a day. But I’ll torture all of the fab bloggers out there by being persistent with my crappy blog! Thanks for that!
Did I ever tell you that I wanna be you when I grow up? Cause I totally do!
FYI…my kids were standing here watching the video with me like, “Mom what is she doing?” I love it!
