South Seas Island Resort has become our families hot vacation spot

For the last five years I have been in a no vacation zone. That is because I was always pregnant, had a kid in diapers, had one drinking from a bottle, pacifiers, sippy cups…the list goes on. The thought of toting all of those things on vacation didn’t sound like much of a vacation. Now the kids are getting older and this is the first year that we have actually considered a family vacation.

The problem we ran into was that we couldn’t find a place where the kids could have a great time and we could get some adult time as well. Most vacation spots we found either catered directly to the kids, that is great but doesn’t leave us feeling like we have had a break, or they cater only to adults and the kids aren’t welcome. I completely understand how difficult it is to integrate the two together so I wasn’t surprised that we came up short in our research.

When I thought all hope was lost for a well-rounded family vacation, I heard about South Seas Resort in Captiva, FL. The pictures were beautiful, it sounded like what I was looking for but I wouldn’t know for sure until I tried it out!

I spent the weekend at the South Seas Resort and I can tell you, a weekend is not long enough to fully experience everything this beautiful resort has to offer.

Crossing the bridge onto the island you can feel the difference. The quaint island setting is relaxing, the view breathtaking. Once you pass the miles of beautiful homes that decorate this island you reach South Seas Island Resort, an oasis covering the entire end of the island.

Check-in’s a breeze and then you are off to one of many accommodation options offered. Here on your honeymoon? Traveling with the kids or Grandparents?

Did you bring the ENTIRE family?

South Seas has you covered from a hotel room, beach or bayside villa, cottage or luxury, 6 bedroom, beach front home.

Most units are equipped with full kitchens but if you don’t feel like cooking you can rent a golf cart or take the trolley and head out to one of the amazing restaurants located around the property. The Holy Smokes Heavenly Barbeque is rapidly expanding to include an arcade for kids…and grown kids alike. The food is traditional BBQ with the most amazing gourmet burgers! I recommend the Blue Cheese burger served with a giant onion ring. The live music and laid back atmosphere sets the stage for a wonderful evening.

The second you step foot inside Scoops and Slices you are transported back in time. The 50’s inspired design, delicious pizza, and sweet ice cream make this the perfect way to end an afternoon in the sun. The best part? They have an entire wall of candy! Fill a bag on your way back to the room for late night snacking.

Want to enjoy the harbor views or grab a quick bite? Harbourside Bar and Grill as well as The Pointe had amazing food! Harbourside Bar and Grill serves up a delicious breakfast buffet. The cinnamon rolls are a must try!

Besides beautiful beaches covered in shells, a lush 9-hole golf course and various water sports, South Seas offers the Sanibel Sea School and Scully’s.

Scully’s is an interactive center for kids where they can do arts & crafts, crab races or have fun with bubbles.

The ScoutAbout program is an interactive scavenger hunt that allows the children to collect colored bracelets hidden throughout the resort. It was exciting to find a box hidden just around the bend.

The Sanibel Sea School is staffed with knowledgeable folks whose love for the ocean and everything in it is quite inspiring. The kids can leave with a tan, an education and a new love for the ocean.

The wildlife on the island is nothing short of amazing. Stand in the harbor and catch up with the manatees or head out on the Dolphin Adventure Cruise. Dolphins swim right up to the boat while you sip a cocktail or a cold soda.

South Seas Island Resort has become our families hot vacation spot.

They so seamlessly accomplish what other resorts have failed at; that is creating a unique and memorable vacation no matter what your circumstances. Bring the kids or just take a romantic getaway…There really is something for everyone!

I have booked our return stay at South Seas for August and couldn’t agree more. Every member of the family found exactly what they were looking for at this hotel. Roll on August….I’ll be at the pool with my Voodoo bucket!! Don’t forget to rent a golf cart.
