The other night MomDot hosted a Critique My Blog class where all sorts of bloggers showed up and we did a round table discussion going around to individual blogs and laying down (in a constructive way) what exactly could be improved on each blog. Whether it was overall loading time, graphic & theme updating, or cutting down the clutter, here are
Top 8 things you can do Spruce up your Blog
(this article has moved, please click above to read it!)

I just learned about something called ‘spriting’ which helps to decrease load time by having pictures and text populate simultaneously. Longer load time will not only turn away people from your site but you will also rank lower with Google as well. Unfortunately this is an often overlooked issue. Good article!
Amen sister!
(P.S. I never-ever used that graphic.)
These are excellent tips, and I am off to do some more spring cleaning!
So so so so so glad that you wrote a post on this! It went kind of quick in the chat room and I did not have time to jot it all down. Now I have it in one spot, thanks
Great advice. While I blog in a different circle of people, for now, I find a lot of these tips could be helpful for my blog as well. I’ll have to try them out and keep them in mind when I start my blog for when I am TTC. Thanks for sharing all this info with us. But I must admit I am sad the cute image of mommy and baby are so 3 years ago. I wanted one. LOL!
Great tips and I learned a lot from the class. I look forward to implementing a lot of the advice including a new theme and header as soon as my blog is back to normal. Speaking of which, I just wanted to thank you for all your help over the last couple of days when my blog kept crashing. While it’s been a frustrating couple of days, I’ve learned a lot!
thanks for #1 I just installed that and already noticed it makes my load faster. Hopefully my readers will notice too. Thank you
great tips. I’m about to look into the cache thing
Hmmmmmmmmm……very interesting…I am guild of quite a few of those. With 2 blogs I have some work ahead of me!!! I am definitely booking this page!
I am a little nervous for the critique but think I shoud do it…will be watching for the next one and make these changes before you do another one…::)
OK, now I need to go back and look at my blog through new eyes! Thanks for all the great tips.
GREAT POST! I am sad that the istock moms with baby thing is played out- since I just one :-X
This post has given me inspiration to clean up my blog and make a nice “About me” page. As a frugal blogger I kind of feel like no one cares about who is writing it. But I noticed through comments on facebook and on my reviews that my readers ARE interested in ME and not just the deals
I can’t wait for the next critique class, was so bummed I missed the first one! My blog is getting a little stagnant so some constructive criticism would be helpful!
Thanks for the great info! I’m newish to the blogging thing & this really helps!!
Ah. Interesting advice about showing your stats. (I’m guilty of that one) gonna make an update. Very useful tips
Thanks for all the tips!
Thanks I changed a few things.
Great suggestions Trisha!
So are you saying my blog gives you a headache
I will WILL be at the next session dang it!
Working on the cache thing right now.
Kas
I enjoyed the class and learned so much! Ready for my new header now even though mine is new lol. Great tips!
I run WP Super Cache. I am assuming Total Cache this is faster? Yeah, I was guilty of showing off a big fat Klout button on my blog….I kind of got my jollies from looking at it, but you are right… my readers could care less.
Thank You!!
I have a bit of work to do to clean up my blog. These tips are very helpful.
You know you’re amazing right? Thanks for putting this all together. I already implemented 1 & 4.
The Critique session was invaluable — and this summary of the info shared is spot-on (at least based on my little pet peeves when visiting blogs, lol).
Now . . I need to go work on setting up the Caching plug-in. I know my load time could be much, much better.
