Super WHY! Hurray for Heroes Giveaway! (5-29) CLOSED

On Monday, May 25th, America will observe Memorial Day in honor of the soldiers who have and are currently fighting to defend our freedom.  To help families celebrate this Memorial Day, fans young and old across the nation can celebrate and learn about heroes with Super WHY!

This Memorial Day, PBS Kids will be airing a two hour Super WHY! marathon called “Hurray for Heroes” in which two  interactive episodes will debut.  If your kids have never seen Super WHY!, I highly recommend it!  Lily absolutely loves yelling out the answers and she is truly engaged while watching the episodes.  I am amazed how much Lily is able to comprehend and the show really lays the ground work for reading.  The superheroes make books come to life as they unveil what the power of reading can do!

From the press release:
During the two-hour Super WHY! – Hurray for Heroes TV event, Super Why and his heroic storybook friends help a fairytale knight face his fears in the launch of George and the Dragon, travel “over the river and through the woods” in Little Red Riding Hood, jump into a book for an interactive island adventure in the debut of The Swiss Family Robinson, and show a stranded princess how to rescue herself in Rapunzel.”

That’s not all PBS Kids has in store for Super WHY fans!  The TV event kicks off a summer of Super WHY! theme weeks, online games and free downloadable materials.  Kids can also play the new Wonder Red’s Freeze Dance Rhyming Game!

GIVEAWAY

  1. Kami says:

I am very grateful we still live in a free country and am very happy that our troups are trying to keep that for us! I just think of all the other countries out there who aren’t as fortunate as us and it makes me cry.

  2. Kami says:

I have always loved Memorial Day! I love seeing all the flowers on the graves and I especially love seeing all the flags displayed. Where my daughter is buried they have flags lining the gate and entry way..it always makes me smile when I enter the graveside.

  3. Kami says:

I have always supported and been very proud of the soldiers who have fought for our country. My grandpa, my dad, and my brother-in-law all served. One of my really good friend’s husband is over there now serving his country. We live in a great country.

  4. Kami says:

We came traveled down to Boise for a wedding and then on actual Memorial day we took flowers to our daughter’s grave, niece’s grave, and grandparent’s graves. We then had a bbq with my parents. It was nice to see my family!

  5. Christine says:

We stayed at home and just had family time. We did the three pm observance. We explained to the kids about what our troops do for us and why.

  6. Jennifer M says:

    We went to Coney Island.

  7. Copley says:

WE went on a boat ride and picnic, then discussed as a family what the holiday meant.

  8. Staci says:

We spent memorial day together as a family. We talked about our soldiers and how they have always worked to keep us safe. My babies are little still so we kept it very age appropriate!

  9. Tammy says:

    What is a Hero??

1 a: a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b: an illustrious warrior c: a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d: one that shows great courage
2 a: the principal male character in a literary or dramatic work b: the central figure in an event, period, or movement
    3 plural usually heros : submarine 2
4: an object of extreme admiration and devotion : idol

I think all the Military men and women have great strength and ability, they are admired for their achievements and noble qualities, they show great courage and they are an object of extreme admiration and devotion. So why isn’t their picture under the word Hero in the dictionary?

  10. Tammy says:

To all the Veterans and active Military:

Thank You for defending this great country for us and allowing us to be a free. Job well done!!

  11. Tammy says:

To all those families out there with family members overseas:

I can never say I understand what you are going through but I can say “Thank You” for having such wonderful family members who love our country enough to serve and defend it for us. I love my country but I could not do what they are doing. I am proud of each and everyone of them.

  12. Tammy says:

I love this country I live and it has help make me who I am today.

  13. Tammy says:

When we were camping this Memorial Day weekend I was surprised at the amount of flags I saw around the campground at the individual campers. There were quite a few, and that made me proud.

  14. Tammy says:

Schools can teach math, science, health, art, music, reading, writting, spelling, biology, chemistry and such but why can’t they teach the children about loving and honoring and being proud of our country? I would love to know the answer to that. Teaching them the basic respects of the flag and men and women in uniform.

I do daycare and my little 3-6 year olds say the Pledge of Allegience everyday. They know to stand still, face the flag and say the pledge. The ones that are too young to say the pledge know that when the others are saying it they are to stand still and put their hand over their heart. It is not always the correct hand but it’s a start.

  15. Tammy says:

    I came across this:

The “Memorial” in Memorial Day has been ignored by too many of us who are beneficiaries of those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. Often we do not observe the day as it should be, a day where we actively remember our ancestors, our family members, our loved ones, our neighbors, and our friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice:

by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.

    by visiting memorials.

by flying the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.

by flying the ‘POW/MIA Flag’ as well (Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act).

by participating in a “National Moment of Remembrance”: at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and for Taps to be played.

by renewing a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our falled dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.

    Interesting huh?

  16. Tammy says:

I support our troops not matter whether or not I agree with why they are doing what they are doing. Does that make sense? Without our troops, where would our country be today.

  17. Tammy says:

It breaks my heart when people do not remove their hats during the playing of the National Anthem. To me that is disrespectful and the worst part is that parents are not teaching their kids to have respect for their country, troops and the flag.

  18. Tammy says:

I had my flag at home flying and also had two flags flying at the campgrounds. I display my flag proudly and daily.

  19. Tammy says:

We (Hubby, daughter and her fiance) went camping for the weekend with my parents and two of my nieces. We had a complete ball.

  20. melissa says:

I want to make sure to teach my boys that we are so lucky to live in a country where I was free to make the choices I made, to become a single mom by choice and to conceive them on my own! I am so proud of my boys and so grateful to be an American mama!
