Kids and Swimwear..finding fashion and modesty in one

It’s that time of the year again.

SUMMER

And if I am not mistaken, today (as of writing this post) is the first official day of summer. I seriously thought winter would never end. Regardless of how mild it may be over the colder months, I always miss the kiss of the sun and how it warms you when you step outside.  Now one of the things I love most about summer, and about living on the Gulf, is the never ending supply of water and water events to attend.

Swimsuits

Now Charlotte is a fashion diva. If it were up to her, she would own 14 swimsuits and she would find an excuse to wear at least 2 a day for the rest of the summer. This year though, I get to dress two little babes, and we can’t leave Mr. Little P out of the equation. For her, I need a swimsuit that covers her appropriately for her age, allows her to be who she is and not think about it coming off or sagging in odd places, and is also cute. For Phoenyx, I need one that can get over the big swim diaper and feel comfortable around his little baby rolls. I am so happy that I found a brand that can supply all those things and more…but do not take my word for it, let the pictures speak for themselves!

Little P is wearing the Lands End Summer Floral Zip pocket Board Shorts in size 2T

($24.99)

The shorts have an inside draw string that makes for an easy adjustment and a liner.

Charlotte is wearing the Girls Ruffle Front Adjustable Tankini ($14.99) and bottom ($9.99) in Light Turquoise Stripe in size 7.

Also comes in 1 piece version here  Girls Ruffle Front Adjustable Swimsuit

Charlotte is a size 7 and it is exactly a size 7. Fits her fantastic with nearly full coverage. If she puts her hands over her head, the tank comes up slightly over her belly.

And yes…she has a blue Gatorade mustache.

Girls Swimwear Summer Review

What I love the most about Charlottes swimsuit is she doesn’t sacrifice modesty for fashion. I want nothing more than for her to be a little lady but still feel up to date. I am very strict about bikinis at her age, but loved how this tankini was adjustable and nearly the same coverage as a one piece, without the hassle of a one piece.

I think this is Charlotte’s 3rd suit this summer and I can tell her favorite so far.

How many suits do your kids own?

  1. I love the girls swimsuit on Charlotte. And Little P? Too cute to even describe. I do know how you feel though about finding the right suit for a girl. I have been helping my sister pick out a suit for my niece and we have way different opinions. My sister is willing to let my niece out in anything she wants. If she was over 18 and not living at home (and I couldn’t see what she was wearing) then fine. But she’s only 12 and I believe she needs to be covered up.

  2. Debbie Petch says:

Hi! Jen from life of levi sends her love and thanks!

  3. Those are so cute! I love the pic of her jumping

  4. I love these and love that they are so appropriate for their age covering everything that needs to be covered and yet so fashionable. too cute

  5. The swimsuits are adorable. I love Charlotte’s swimsuit. Cute and modest.

  6. I really love Charlotte’s suit! My 11 year old would even look great in that! I wish they had the shorts to match instead of the regular swimsuit bottoms though! P looks as cute as ever :)

  7. Does Charlotte’s swimsuit come in my size? LOL It is adorable!

  8. My 2 year old has 3 or 4 swimming trunks & the baby has one trunk & one swim diaper that is Cars themed, so we don’t cover it. :) He needs some more though bc he is bigger than his brother was during the summer, so we didn’t have any hand-me-downs in the right size. :)

  9. Those are so cute! Oj’s finally grown out of his from last 2 years so we’re shopping soon for another one. I really love Charlotte’s swimsuit. I didn’t even realize it was a tankini til after you mentioned it. I still don’t wear a bikini unless I had a cover up for it. Thankfully I found this super cute top from Lands End that has a little ruffle at the bottom and will go perfect with my current 2 piece bottoms lol.

  10. I love Lands End! And that suit is adorable! It looks like it’s a little girls swimsuit instead of an adult suit made much smaller!
Little girls should look like little girls!

  11. Love that tankini. Gav has tons of swim trunks and Zoe has 5 swimsuits and guess what? Her new one from Lands End is her fav!

  12. Oh gosh, I love Charlotte’s swimsuit. Like you, we’re all about modesty. I have a 5 year old fashion diva begging for a bikini (or a 2 piece)… not gonna happen.

The girls have 3 swimsuit each but that’s my fault, I can’t pass up the cute ones. Emma has a Disney Ariel 1 pc, a Target 1 pc with the fluffiest tutu and a watermelon one I found at Crazy 8.

  13. Little P is adorable as always. I LOVE Charlotte’s suit, because it is fashionable, but also keeps her covered. My mom bought Bella some skimpy swimsuits (size 18 months) and I was amazed that they even make them like that for babies. Of course, mom just thought they were cute, but I prefer tankinis or even the UV protective swim shirts. Will definitely keep Lands End in mind for future purchases!

    • yeah I am so not a fan of the skimpy ones for little girls…I know some think they are cute, but like you, I wonder aside from the fact that they look like something an adult would wear, they hve no coverage for the sun!
