Painting a Wall Mural:

My experience with Kids Murals & Nursery Art

A year later, we are still living in a house with nearly white walls, and sporadic decor throughout. We have started a mission this year..its time to admit we are settled in and decorate this place.

Coming up on MomDot, I am going to be sharing things we are doing in our home to make it more “homey” and offering you ideas and some giveaways to follow along. The first idea I wanted to share with you are the amazing Kids Murals from My Wonderful Walls and how they transformed our playroom from drab to a show piece in less than a day.

Carolyns Kitchen Sweetheart Apron (Closed)

Hey, everyone, It’s Alicia! Look what we have here!  We are so lucky enough to be able to work with Carolyn from Carolyn’s Kitchen Online again.   Back in September AND December we provided you with an opportunity to win an incredible apron, and now we are giving you the chance to win another apron. (and you may remember Trisha sporting hers in a  Funky Friday video) Everyone loves them so much, we keep having to have them come back. So welcome to another product of Carolyn’s Kitchen (and sure not to be our last).

index_apron_09I know that I tend to be REALLY messy when I cook.  Wait make that if I cook, but anyway, when I bake its a mess and there is never a time where I get something on myself.  Now if I had one of these sexy aprons, I wouldn’t have to worry about spilling something on myself. And maybe, just maybe, it would make my husband want to help me out in the kitchen.

Check out what Carolyn’s Kitchen is all about:

Carolyn West’s vintage-inspired aprons and dish gloves enhance the merriment of playing whimsical dress-up combined with the indulgent delights of naughty pin-ups. This range of appeal makes Carolyn’s designs perfect for gifts for all occasions. These sets are also sweet treats for yourself and fun gifts for mothers, sisters, daughters, and brides. Carolyn mixes the domesticity of past decades with the working world of the 21st century woman by creating a business focusing on feminine domestic designs. Inspired by a gorgeous apron and glove set from Paris, Carolyn began by discovering 1940’s patterns and bringing them to life with her modern interpretive designs. “I wanted to bring back the glamour, sexiness, and cuteness of a bygone innocent era. The gloves and fabrics are new and nicer – it’s a new and improved version of the ’40’s.”

“I let my imagination run, and originated the embodiment of that 40’s girl in the apron and gloves, living in our ultra modern age. Suzy Homefaker slaves over a hot microwave for minutes at a time, constant hostess to all, in and around her kitchen, enticing temptress to you know who, you know where.”

You too will find yourself transformed to that frivolous and fun part of you when you become Suzy Homefaker in Carolyn’s designs.

Now we all know that during any holiday we are always baking cookies and having HUGE dinners with all of our families.  We also know that as a hostess its hard to keep yourself clean and free of excess food on your nice new outfit. So you all have the opportunity to win a Red SweetHeart Apron~!

mainpage_hero_val_09

Now can you just imagine yourself now, standing in the kitchen cooking dinner for all of your family or even taking the time to bake cookies with the kids? And I know that we all want to look sexy in the kitchen and here’s the perfect opportunity to do that! This contest is for the apron above on the model and does not include the gloves or hat…although we think you should pick those up for the perfect outfit.

Chic Buds Review and Giveaway (Closed)

chicbudsI recently got my first iPod thanks to my dear mother and of course the first thing I thought, besides how grateful I was for the awesome gift, was how I could deck out my new pod. I’m a true princess at heart and I have a love for just about anything shiny and sparkly and came across the perfect accessory: chicBuds! Oh how these Swarovski Crystal accented earphones made my heart a flutter! I received the Black and Blueberry Buds and they are the most delectable ear candy! There’s a total of about eighty-five Swarovski Crystals placed on the earpieces and retractable device combined. You can stay fashionable with these cutting edge treats sure to make anyone look twice. My preteen sisters even swooned at the sight of them and lucky for them, I won enough pairs from Sandra’s blog, Evolving Music, during chicBud’s Holiday Giveaway that I can share my prize with them. That makes me Sister of the Year in their book and I get the joy out of seeing their faces light up when I give it to them.

chicbuds-v3_01

Aside from the obvious bling appeal, these earphones are practical and functional with the added features that include retractable cords that have five stopping points and a convenient belt clip attached. You can customize it so that you can adjust the length of the cord and secure the clip to keep it in place while you perform a myriad of activities. Now, I can shimmy and shake to my favorite song with ease without loose cords obstructing my movement and look hip at the same time. When you’re not using your listening or musical device, you recoil the cords simply by tugging on the the cords on the earpiece side and release. This makes it easy to stash in your purse and eliminates the mess and problem of tangled cords. There you have it, a hot and stylish accessory with multitasking abilities! You will find these ear charmers online at www.chicbuds.com and at Dillards and Fred Meyers stores nationwide!

Want a chance to win a pair of chicBuds? We are giving a pair away!

MYUVILLE.com Giveaway $100 Toys R Us (closed)

uville_logoHave you ever wanted to have a safe place for your child to play online? A place where there were games and activities to keep them occupied and busy- along with all the while learning?  We’ve found a great place for them!  Check out MyUville.com!

MyUville.com provides kid with lots of places to play games and allows children to be online in a safe, child friendly environment.

Search through MyUville.com and you will find an area to become a FREE member.  When you get to that area you’ll be able to create your own online environment for your Uville characters.  You can personalize your Uville by creating your own character and even a room for them to live in.

ABOUT UVILLE:

uville

Why Uville? It’s simple. As a mother of three young children, I said to myself, “I would never drop my 8 year old off at the mall to roam and shop alone. So why would I let her log into the internet to search & play by herself?” I thought there had to be a better way for me to be more involved, continue to foster a parent-child relationship, yet encourage my child to be part of this online world. I felt like I needed to know my children were safe and having fun, but I also wanted them learning and not ONLY playing “fun” games.

In short, I wanted to feel good about the time my children were spending on the computer and so the idea for Uville was born. I wanted Uville to be more of a one stop shop for kids. We have a host of games to play, many of which are educational. Our aim is to provide a myriad of things to do including activities that allow a parent and child to play/work together and talk about responsibility at home and on the internet.

What makes Uville different…
We are “safe & fun” like everyone else on the block. Where we believe we are different is our desire to help children be creative, curious, and learn how to express themselves. Our characters make the difference as they encourage your child to take a journey through not only our games but also great educational exercises and areas where they can express themselves.

Why is the website named Uville?
This website is about self-expression and YOU. There are many opportunities for your child to put his or her personal touch on the activities. We get that this generation is accustomed to personalizing everything, so we wanted to make the town and experience all about you.

Who are you people?
We are a group of families with young children. Our work background is in sales, marketing, education, and finance. Oh yeah… did we also mention that we are soccer & basketball coaches, Brownie leaders, and board members of the PTO to name a few? We are busy parents, just like you, that want the best for our kids.

You also have the opportunity to play games or activities on MyUville.com. My favorite part of MyUville.com is the different characters that you can play with and have fun. Its amazing the things you can do with them.

Through MyUville.com your child will benefit by having a website for kids that provides a safe, parent approved, interactive online environment for kids ages 5-12.  Uville promotes creativity, self expression and learning in a world filled with games learning and fun.  Visit MyUville.com to see what all the FUN is about!

Review and Giveaway: List Plan It CLOSED

As a Mom of 2, who works part time outside the house & also “works” here at Momdot, I need things that organize me.  I haven’t been able to find something that works for me, until List Plan It.   With List Plan It, I was able to find a list for EVERYTHING.  Whether  I needed a list for grocery shopping, planning my weeks out, or making a list of things to clean.  They were all there!

When I was going through the different lists, which there are over 350 of them, I was able to find what I needed without even thinking. I was able to  find a list for when we were packing to go away over night and not have to worry about missing anything. They had already thought of it and included the things that I needed to remember to take.  The lists that I used the most were the complete grocery list, the dinner menu planner, medication tracker (especially for Kaylee’s meds), and of course, the blank calendar.

I’m so thankful to be able to use the different lists at List Plan It.  They were a HUGE help for me and would be for anyone else!

And here’s some information from the site about List Plan It:

Jennifer Tankersley is the founder and creator of List Plan It, LLC. Her love for lists grew out of a childhood where there was always a Saturday morning chore list. She used them, crossed off completed tasks, saw how productive and efficient they could help her be, and has used them in almost every aspect of her life since. This includes 13 years of marriage, 9 moves, 3 babies, and countless meals prepared.

It wasn’t until Jen had been working a part-time, evening job (not to mention a demanding day job as a Stay-at-Home Mom to 3 young children) and found herself facing post-holiday disorganization that she realized her need for lists had truly evolved. Since then, it has been her mission to accumulate a list of lists that would not only Put her World in Order, but also help others do the same.

She welcomes you to List Plan It and hopes that these lists will guide you to freeing up mental space by giving you an opportunity to put it all down on paper. Feel free to ask questions or send comments. If you have a list that you would like to see on List Plan It, send an email to jennifer@listplanit.com.

Feature Boutique: Nayla Natural Care

Do you love natural, organic and chemical-free products for your family?  Do you have a hard time finding everything you need in one place?  Look no further!  Please welcome Gwen from Nayla Natural Care!

1.  Congratulations on being a MomDot Feature Boutique!  Please introduce yourself to the MomDot readers!

Thanks for choosing to feature my store! I am a Canadian mom of 2 wonderful girls. A bit before my maternity leave ended, I decided I wanted to stay at home with them (this time is so precious, you don’t get it back!) so I am now a stay/work at home mom!

2.  What is the inspiration behind your store?

I was inspired by my two girls. My husband and I are really into organic/all-natural body care/every day products, so naturally we want to use the best non-toxic products out there for our family. We had been having a tough time finding these products in 1 spot – we were buying some things online, traveling for 1/2 hour to a particular health store to get other things, it just became a hassle, especially with 2 little ones in tow, so I thought that there must be other moms out there going through this as well, so I decided to create my own 1 stop shop!

3.  How did you take your store from concept to reality?

Alot of the products you see in the store I was already using or had used for myself or with my kids. I really like them alot so I decided that they would be products that I’d definitely carry. The other things I spent countless hours searching for and researching their ingredients (lots of late nights, working after the kids were in bed!). Once I had my short list, I contacted the companies and spoke with them, ordered samplers and tested away along with my testing team that I had assembled.

4.  What sets your company apart from your competitors?

What sets Nayla Natural Care apart is that I have a great team of moms (my “Nayla Testing Team“!) who help out with testing these products. They, along with myself, have provided reviews on each of the items in the store. I love to shop online and have made a few purchases that I was not happy with. Having these reviews is something that I thought would help a customer out if they were purchasing something they had never tried before.

Another thing that sets the store apart is that I actually love everything I sell! If I don’t like it or would not use it for my own family, then I won’t sell it!

5.  I love the Ringley Teething Toys!  What a GREAT idea!  That would be perfect for my 7 month old teething monster!  What is your favorite product?

I don’t have a favorite product! The store is like a collection of my personal favorites!

6.  What is your most popular product?

Since we launched in the middle of the summer (July) the best selling items were definately the Trukid sunscreens and our organic and all natural bug protection products.

7.  How do you advertise your boutique?

I’ve been really lucky so far. I have made some wonderful contacts since this journey has begun and as a result have had the opportunity to be mentioned in some mom newsletters and be featured on a few blogs which has really helped with exposure!

8.  What’s next for your website?  Any sales or promotions we should know about?

I have a few new product lines that I will be introducing in the coming weeks that I’m really excited about! I post about all of these things in the Nayla Natural Care Blog .  You can also sign up for the store newsletter though the website to get all of the scoop as it happens and to receive discounts and learn about sales. I am always searching for new and cool products that you may not necessarily see everwhere, so keep checking back!

Gwen was nice enough to send my little teething monster a Ringley Teething Toy (created by a Canadian Mom) to try out.  My first impression of the toy was that it was very well made and sturdy.  The wood was smooth and the cloth was soft.

With a toddler and infant in tow, my husband and I rarely get to enjoy dinners out, but we decided to brave it tonight and go out to a restaurant.  I brought the Ringley for Aubrie, who has been extraordinarily fussy today from teething pain.  When we got settled and the restaurant, I broke out the Ringley and Aubrie immediately smiled and shoved the wooden ring in her mouth.

Photobucket

It kept her occupied (and quiet!) the WHOLE dinner!  For once, I got to eat my food at a normal pace! LOL!  I highly recommend this product to any Mommy with a teething infant!!

Overall, my impression of Nayla Natural Care is WONDERFUL.  The website is well designed and user friendly, the product selection is great and Gwen is very friendly.  Add this boutique to your favorites today!
