This week with Hurricane Sandy on the lose up in the northeast, it should remind us all that safety is our number one priority when it comes to our family and self. Being in the house is one thing, but being on the road requires extra caution and care and you can start that at home with doing a few things with your own vehicle to give you that extra detail for safety.
I am sure you didn’t know, because I didn’t, but October is Headlight Safety Month.

No time like the present to inspect your headlights and address dim light bulbs, burned out lights, and hazy headlights that make visibility difficult when on the road. And with Halloween just days away and dark coming sooner and sooner, there is no time more important than now to make sure you can see every child that is out on the road at night.
In the past on our own vehicles we have paid to get our headlights restored to their newer luster but recently I had a chance to test out the 3M™ Headlight Lens Restoration System and used that to test out the fading lights on my babysitters new, but used, car.
The 3M™ Headlight Lens Restoration Kit

No Tools Required comes at a fraction of the cost of professional cleanings and is one example how 3M, a staple in automotive solutions for more than 90 years, is constantly seeking simple ways to improve, restore and protect your vehicle.
- -Easy-to-use kit that restores the clarity of yellowed, hazed, or dull headlight lenses
- -No tools required – just elbow grease
- -Works easily on most plastic lenses, including taillights, trailers, snowmobiles, emergency vehicle light bars, plastic motorcycle lights and more
Tips: The kit was easy to use. It mainly consists of sanding out the yellow and scratches and using a compound to fill in and make a better and more clear sheen. My strongest two tips are to wear clothing that you don’t mind “dust” on (as you can see in the photo it gets on your clothing) and two, to read the directions first. It helps to have it all laid out and ready instead of stopping in between to read the steps. While this process is only about 15-20 minutes long at most, we did it out in the cold and wind and it took longer so I don’t recommend that.

Our Process:

The kit works not only on headlights, but other uses are emergency vehicle lights, plastic lights, trailers, and tail lights! Right now you can pick up the 3m Headlight Lens Restoration System in Pep Boys stores and also recieve a great mail in rebate.
