I think when you are trying to figure out what theme to do a nursery in, part of that really depends on what colors you ultimately go with and what room you start to even design in. For us, we first had to evaluate the space in our home.

What room would be his?

We live in a two story home, with all the bedrooms upstairs, and luckily have 4 bedrooms and a small family of 3, so we didn’t need to worry about selling or doubling up. As all “first borns”, my family just likes to spread out and do its own thing on occasion so we were careful when purchasing to have some space. We currently use a master room, Charlotte has her own room, we have a play room, and we also have a guest room.

Which is a joke cause we have had “guests” like 4 times in 3 years.

The obvious choice would be to take down the guest room and make that the nursery, but its the smallest room in the house and has the absolute worst circulation. Personally I don’t like sleeping in there, so I didn’t want to put a new born in there either.

That meant it came down to

A) The Playroom

or

B) Charlotte’s room

Charlotte’s room is the room right off the master and considering the playroom is actually larger (my husband would disagree that her room is larger, but I do not believe it is, her furniture is just more organized than the insanity of the playroom), one thought would be to remove her from her room and put the baby closest to our room. The downside to that is she has that fabulous $1000 mural on her wall, customized with her name, and is  fit for a wall in her bedroom.

So the playroom it is.

Now the playroom itself had been muraled, but hand muraled by Chris and I, and we were all very sad to make that decision as well.

None more sad than Charlotte herself whom believes she was losing what she deemed as hers. I suppose we all have to make sacrifices and this is a good start for her. Not to mention she can forever hold it over her brothers head that she gave up a room for him, so we are actually helping her out in some sort of sibling rivalry fashion. I also dont imagine most homes have the luxury of playrooms on top of bedrooms, so she can consider herself very lucky thus far.

The main logistical problem at that point now was……where the heck do all the TOYS from that room go.

Right now…they have all been dragged into the upstairs living room…..and are in utter complete and disorganized chaos. I am trying to decide if I should try to coordinate some of this into Charlotte’s room, get rid of it, take down the “guest” room as the playroom, or convert this secondary living space TO a play space.

Right now the baby does have a room.

The toys do not have a room.

Its a start….right??!?
