Moms- SKIP the maternity clothes.

I wouldn’t say that I am a fashionista, atleast not in the sense that I have to have the best, the brightest, and the newest pair of shoes or dress on the market the second its available. I do, however, like to look good, feel good, and wear something that doesn’t look like it fell out of the 1800s or the 1970′s.

Unfortunately when you become pregnant, fashion is the last thing that is generally on your mind but in a lot of ways it should be first. Its a simple fact that if you look good, you FEEL great and since this pregnancy has been just short of pure misery, Ill take whatever happiness I can find and wherever I can find it.

Now I have shared quite a few pictures of myself during this pregnancy; it was a promise to myself that I would have more then one shot pregnant, since I only had a total of 2 with Charlotte the entire 9 months. And I have heard a lot of “I love your dress” and “Where did you get that outfit” on facebook, twitter, and my blog. I have also heard it in person, which is ultra flattering.

Last week a woman told me I looked beautiful while I was walking around at Target.

A girl doesn’t really tire from hearing that; even from complete strangers.

So I am going to let you in on a little secret…SKIP the maternity clothes. In the beginning with the rush of being pregnant and growing out of the size 3′s (and crying myself to sleep over it), I got all panicky and ran to all the maternity places. I admit I bought dresses, shorts, tanks and even maternity leggings- you know, the ones w/ the stomach pouch? While they mainly fit “ok”, overall my frump level went way up and my sex appeal, way down. Maternity clothes are made baggy….and lets be realistic here, I want people to realize I am PG, not just sitting at the computer eating ho-hos all day. Ill embrace the stomach, thankyouverymuch.

I also want to feel sexy. Not that sexy is a goal while pregnant, clearly the sexy was there BEFORE the pregnancy, which resulted in the pregnancy, but sexy is still a great feeling in general.

I decided then and there to redo my clothing tactic.

I would only buy clothing with no waistlines, that were just regular, every day, any person clothes. I found that I could still wear my regular size, which in this case is S and in some brands an XS, and just show off the bump for what it was. The beauty in the entire process is that the clothing will STILL be usable when the pregnancy is over, so the guilt is far less in purchasing now then wasting a ton of money on something Ill wear a month as maternity and never see again.

Now I know what you may be thinking….”my pregnant butt would never fit in normal clothes“. Well, you are wrong. My A’s went to a D, my size 20 something waistline is hovering at a percentage I wont even disclose to my closest friends, and my hips have undoubtedly moved. Again.

The brands I found that have worked the best for me are the following:

Less Expensive (Find at Kohls, Dillards, Target, etc)

  • Soprano
  • Lapis
  • LaPagee
  • Mudd
  • My Michelle ( I like the dresses that come w/ the elastic belts)
  • IzByer
  • Mon Amie

More Expensive, but Oh so much nicer! Find at department stores and discount shopping like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx

  • MaxStudio* (these are the two best lines I have found)
  • Max Azira*
  • Calvin Klein
  • Cynthia Rowley
  • Mercer & Madison

Now my little webcam fashion show isnt that great, but none of the clothing here is maternity and represents my growing March till Now Belly. The most expensive dress in the pictures is $24.99  and the least is $16.99:

See!

Save your maternity wardrobe and just find classic, no waistline pieces that will continue to make you look beautiful…during, and after, baby.

Tutu Pour Mon Deux

As you already know, we are a big tutu family. Perhaps my posts on

have given it away from time to time.  I love finding, and sharing unique children’s clothing options and this one is no exception.

Meet Tutu Pour Mon Deux

We’ve combined a band of organza and colorful ribbon and attached it to the bottom of either a sleeveless or long sleeved shirt with a unique image ironed onto the bodice creating a one of a kind, little girl’s tutu shirt. Our tutu’s come in an array of eye-catching colors with prices ranging from $34-$38 and come in sizes ranging from 18 months to 6T.

Chances are online, at some point, if you are into the world of children’s fashion you have most likely run across these adorable “do it yourself” designer duds that certainly put Charlotte into a tizzy for 20 minutes deciding colors, ribbons, and patches.

Simply to go DESIGN YOUR TUTU and you get a clean slate like this:

Then its as easy as point, click, and create!

Shirt color, tutu color, ribbons and patches with so many ways to create something unique.

In just a short while, the design you or your daughter made shows up at the front door gently packed and runway ready! Now when Charlotte’s design arrived, she was extra thrilled because she remembered she made it.

So of course…the smile is cheesy-liscious.

It’s the smile of “Yeah, Look at Me, I made this, You know you love it!”

Here is a picture from the site so you can actually see the product without crazy purple leggings (hey, thats what I get for letting her dress herself) on my model up there.

Btw, so there is no confusion, you are just ordering the top part with Tutu Pour Mon Deux…the crazy leggings are your responsibility. When this arrived, it was actually one of those weird half winter, half spring parts of the year so I just gave up looking for white leggins or crop pants, which clearly would have been a better match.

C’est La Vie!

Now if you want to design your very own Tutu Pour Mon Deux you can get FREE SHIPPING with a special discount code for MomDot visitors:

Noctis Threads: Adult Wear

I like to shop.

I think that much is apparent.

But there are a few things I have a hard time finding. One is clothing to fit my short body style and two, to fit my short body style without being kids or teenage wear.

That isnt to say I dont like and enjoy bright, colorful, and fun brands, because I do, but I dont need it to say “Hot Sexy” on the front of a T-shirt I wear either.

Introducing Noctis Threads

[box type="info"]Don’t wear Noctis, let Noctis wear you. Noctis represents elegance when you are out for a night of flying free, stealth when you are on the hunt for prey or having a hooting good time partying it up.[/box]

Noctis carries fun and funky {and affordable}  T-shirts for men and women.

They also carry polo style dresses, hoodies, intimates in adult friendly and trendy styles.

I recently had an opp to test out a Noctis Thread shirt and the shirt was spot on in sizing. I have also been washing it continuously for a few months with no more than normal wear and tear on the fabric and no issues with pulling or stretching.

Servane Barrau In Wonderland

Looking down the rabbit hole this Halloween I have found some quirky fun {and handmade} designs coming out of Servane Barrau. The Queen of Hearts dress, now available only in a few select sizes, is on sale for a completely affordable $34.80 and would be beautifully paired with some stripped leggings, which they also offer on the site. Just because fall has arrived, doesn’t mean that you have to be sworn to muted purples, oranges, and browns for the duration of the next 6 months, which is a trap that I often find myself falling into.

Children breath life, fun, and funky and I have to admit that if Charlotte were to design something at her age, this would surely be what it would look like:

And I know they are sold out, but if these Mad Hatter Pants were still available, I would have absolutely bought them.

Another thing I really love about this website is that they offer a Mini Me selection where you can match the clothing you buy to a doll size version.

This means whatever you pick for YOUR mini me, she can have her doll match her.

Happy Shopping,

Trisha

Emma’s Garden Clothing, so cute!

I found this dress while walking through Marshall’s the other day.

The brand is Emma’s Garden (Charlotte’s wearing a size 6, just a tad too big) and I just love how stinking cute it is! I don’t know what other stores they sell this brand at, but I am sure you can run an Internet search if you are interested.

Its this really beautiful purple and kinda retro pattern. The zipper is majorly heavy duty on the back and its built roomy.

It has this crinoline underneath it to make it poofy too, which I love.

All dresses should have crinoline, sparkles, or tulle.

$12.99, in case your wondering.
