It’s Complicated (closed)

*all three winners have been notified via email as of 12/21*

In order to celebrate the new movie ‘It’s Complicated‘ and its premiere on Christmas Day, we wanted to bring you some great information about the movie and how you can win a few prizes as well! I love when movies come out over the holidays because its a fun thing to do right after you are too full to move from holiday meals.

Now I have never been divorced. Yet.

But I can completely understand how Meryl Streeps character and Alex Baldwins character start finding each other again after years of being a part.  Although I wont say that Alicia shares that sentiment just a month away from her divorce. (yeah, divorce party in New Orleans in 3 weeks~!)

Don’t forget to Fan on Facebook!

ITC_Photoa

I am super excited to see Steve Martin pop back up in a movie!

I love him.

Genre:                                                Comedy

Cast:                                                   Meryl Streep, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin

Written & Directed by:                 Nancy Meyers

Produced by:                                   Nancy Meyers, Scott Rudin

Writer/director Nancy Meyers (Something’s Gotta Give, The Holiday) directs Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin in It’s Complicated, a comedy about love, divorce and everything in between.

Jane (Streep) is the mother of three grown kids, owns a thriving Santa Barbara bakery/restaurant and has—after a decade of divorce—an amicable relationship with her ex-husband, attorney Jake (Baldwin).  But when Jane and Jake find themselves out of town for their son’s college graduation, things start to get complicated.  An innocent meal together turns into the unimaginable—an affair.  With Jake remarried to the much younger Agness (Lake Bell), Jane is now, of all things, the other woman.

Caught in the middle of their renewed romance is Adam (Martin), an architect hired to remodel Jane’s kitchen.  Healing from a divorce of his own, Adam starts to fall for Jane, but soon realizes he’s become part of a love triangle.

Should Jane and Jake move on with their lives, or is love truly lovelier the second time around?  It’s…complicated.  www.itscomplicatedmovie.com

Custom Christmas Shirts (closed)

I’ll admit it-if it has bling on it, I am in. So when Just Jen offered to do a giveaway on MomDot, I had a hard time resisting the adorable around the year styles and couldn’t wait to get my hands on my own custom Christmas shirt.

From a mom that shops only when something falls apart, I outgrow it by at least 3 sizes, or I have to leave town and don’t want to show up in jogging pants, it was kinda fun perusing the styles to pick out something new.

While Bah Humbug is the last thing I feel around Christmas, I absolutely loved the writing style of this premade design so it was without a doubt my choice for a Christmas style. What I love about custom t-shirts is that you can order with your own design like your household family name, a special saying, and flat out personalization for any one in your life. It’s about this time of the year where we are scrambling to find something personal and cute for family members, so I can completly apprieciate the uniqueness of a gift like this.

The one thing I don’t like about ordering online is you never really know the quality or sizing till its actually in your hands! The shirt I ordered online looked like this:

tshirt-humbug

The shirt I recieved looked like this:

(as you can see I opted for white)

Picture 193Picture 186

I would say its exactly in person like I ordered online. I have washed the shirt one time and there are no loose jewels, so I would say its put together quite well also.

The other thing I really like is the fact that they offer extra long waisted shirts. I hate shirts that hit at your pants line and you are pulling them down all day. Aside from regular tshirts, hoodies, pants, and other fashionable styles, you can get long tshirts that go past your waist for a more comfortable look.

We call that a “mom” look in my house.

Regardless, my underwear is not showing, so its cool.

Casio Exilim Camera Giveaway 6/26 CLOSED

I cant say “Exilim“, but I sure wanted you to get a chance to check out this adorable camera! I was lucky enough to receive this sleek and modern 12.1 meg digital camera, that may be small enough to put in your pocket, but has so far proven to pack a major punch in photo and video quality.

ex-s12pk_largeLet’s start with the camera basics:

The EX-S12 has a stylish body measuring just .6″ thin (.5″ at the thinnest part). It boasts an effective 12.1 megapixel resolution with up to 3X optical zoom and 4X Digital zoom and a super clear 2.7″ LCD monitor.

CASIO INTRODUCES INDUSTRY’S FIRST MODEL THAT CAN MAKE COMPOSITE MOVING IMAGES, PLUS ENTRY LEVEL ADDITION TO CARD SERIES

LAS VEGAS, NV, MARCH 3, 2009 — Casio America, Inc. and its parent company, Casio Computer Co., Ltd., released some exciting details about its upcoming digital camera models today. Soon to be released, the EX-S12 can make the most of Casio’s high-speed image processing engine to enable users to cut and paste moving subjects onto still backgrounds.

Casio has been a pioneer in digital cameras for over ten years. The new models maintain Casio’s long tradition of innovation and creativity. In 1995, Casio introduced the QV-10, the world’s first consumer digital camera with an LCD monitor so users could view the images they had just taken. In 2002, the company released the EX-S1, a card-sized camera so thin that it could be carried anywhere. In 2008, Casio launched the highly anticipated EX-F1 and EX-FH20, boasting high-speed burst shooting capabilities to ensure that users would never miss a crucial moment again, not to mention the ability to record high-speed movies that capture motion too fast for the human eye to perceive.

EXILIM model EX-S12
Taking advantage of the high-speed image processing abilities of Casio’s state-of-the-art EXILIM Engine 4.0, which is built into these models, the new Dynamic Photo function allows the photographer to cut out the main subject of interest in an image that has just been captured and then combine it with another image to form the background. Users can also cut and paste several rapid-succession images to create a moving subject on a still background. This function makes it easy for users to create composite scenes from an image juxtaposition that exists only in virtual reality, or they can create a composite image that conveys a certain message. Casio technologies like these are creating whole new avenues of enjoyment that go far beyond mere picture-taking, delivering greater creative and viewing pleasure.

Casio has set up a special website (www.exilim.com/dp/) that demonstrates many interesting ways to use the Dynamic Photo function. Following the release of the camera, Casio will offer new services that expand the fun of the Dynamic Photo function

Also to be released at this time is the EXILIM EX-S5 — a camera with a compact body based on a new design concept — which makes high-quality photographic functionality simpler to use than ever before.

“Casio is dedicated to designing new technology that lets us create features like Dynamic Photo in our digital cameras,” said Bill Heuer, Vice President of Sales for Digital Imaging Division at Casio America, Inc. “We continue to be a leader in the digital camera market, providing unique and convenient ways to capture special moments.”

The EX-S12, available in April, will have an MSRP of $249.99 and will be offered in silver, pink, green and black colors.

On with my opinion. I am not a “technical” person, so I am going to speak from a “regular” average picture taking point of view.

I have not even touched the surface of everything this little camera can do. Every day I push a new button that does something different from rotating my pictures before they leave the camera, editing the movie I created, placing pictures in the foreground of another shot, and one touch video recording.

Let me talk about one touch recording for a minute.  I believe this is the best feature on this camera. I currently have a camera that you have to change the actual settings before you record and if your wanting to catch something quickly, you all but miss it before you get your camera ready. Not on the Exilim! Additionally, while recording, you can zoom in and out on the subject. Many cameras today allow recording, but not actual zooming from your digital but that is not the case here.

Oh and you can STILL take pictures while its recording! This is a pretty nice feature. I actually discovered it quite by accident when I forgot to take it off the video record when I went to take a picture. What it does is pause the recording automatically, takes your picture and goes right back to recording. No need to fuss changing the settings back and forth, back and forth. Sometimes pictures happen in an instant, so its nice to have a camera be there for you when it does.

Here is a sample of the video. It does better when you don’t zoom TOO close, which is expected, but I tested it out moving and zooming from far back, etc. to show you all.

[flashvideo filename="videos/casioexilim.flv" width="448" height="361" /]

Here are my shots from this weekend. These pictures are UNEDITED and straight from the camera in a variety of lighting situations on automatic:

beachducks3thegirlsbirthday-011birthday-058birthday-036birthday-012

usbirthday-089

I haven’t been using this camera long enough to tell you if there is a feature that I dislike as of this point, but as of right now, I am giving it a thumbs up with what I have used and seen. There is so much to do on it, I would be shocked if they missed something. However, you will need to do your research to see if this is the right camera for your particular needs and there is a bit of a learning curve with all the different settings and options available. Of course it comes with a book if you want to read that, but I throw myself into it and “figure it out”.

And at 12.1 meg, you can take a shot that you can blow up for your mantal fireplace picture. I actually bumped ours down to 5 meg when I took the shots so I didnt have to shrink them as much.

The last thing I am going to touch on is the size of the camera. It really is nearly flat. Its actually smaller than my cell phone in my pocket. I took it out with us to the beach and then panicked I forgot it, because I didn’t realize it was in my back pocket of my shorts.

I am going to enjoy getting to know this camera as it goes on our family adventures this summer!

Through the Mom Trials:  Wow, and I mean wow!  Douglas Toys has an amazing selection of adorable and snuggle worthy plush toys!  I can’t get over the cuteness of all the products that are offered and it was difficult to choose just one.  I ended up picking out the Broderick Large Lying Down Husky for my almost 5 year old son, Ethan, (because we live in Alaska and my son just loves the Iditarod Dog Race) and you should have seen the look on my children’s faces when I opened up the box and surprised him with it!  His eyes were as wide as saucers and was grinning from ear to ear.  He couldn’t wait to snatch it up and give it a big, tight squeeze!  They’ve practically been inseparable ever since and has become pretty territorial over it.  The girls don’t stand a chance to play with it very often and this large plush husky dog has left two of my girls green with envy and wondering when they can get their own lovable, stuffed animal like this one!

 copy-of-04-30-01-651

I’d have to say that this plush dog is by far one of the nicest stuffed animals I’ve ever come across.  You can see the quality craftmanship through out husky and I love that it looks realistic to a real live Husky dog.  Even their expressions and poses remind you of the real thing, making it much more charming and irresistable.  My kids enjoy it’s large size, perfect for cuddling or even “riding” on like my kids like to do.  The dog is super soft and make a terrific bedside companion. I also think it’s neat that you can start your kids a whole collection of large stuffed dogs within the same breed or collect a variety of different breeds.   My girls certainly have their favorites among the breeds with Elizabeth eyeing their sweet Sherman Golden Retriever as her choice of plush dog while Liberty is more of a cat person and is in love with Tasha Himalayan Cat that closely resembles our Siamese kitty, Angel.  There is just so many good things to say about Douglas stuffed animals and if you like squishy, huggable, and darling plush toys like we do, you’ll have to check out Douglas Toys line of unique and cuddly stuffed animals!

Hotel for Dogs DVD, 3 Winners 5/4 CLOSED

We hardly make it to the movies around here. I see a new movie only when it hits the DVD stands……….6 months after its been out. But this time, I was able to see Hotel for Dogs before it hit the stands and felt privileged! HA!

Now I’m not a huge fan of dogs overall. Heck, you already know that with as many cats as I have in my house, right? But this weekend I saw a puppy that made my heart melt. Too bad you have to take dogs for walks and all that. But since Charlotte’s never going to get a dog till she is 18 and moved out, the closest she can come is watching movies with them.

hotelfordogs

Here is a basic synopsis of the movie by IMDB:

Animals are strictly forbidden at Andi and her little brother Bruce’s foster home. But for Friday, the adorable dog they secretly care for, they’re ready to risk everything. They finally find him an ideal shelter, a huge abandoned hotel that Bruce transforms thanks to his engineering genius. In what has become an incredible paradise for dogs, Friday is soon joined by all kinds of furry friends, so many in fact that their barks alert the neighbors…and the local pound, who can’t understand the disappearance of all the stray dogs. Andi and Bruce will have to call on all their friends and all their imagination to stop the hotel’s secret from being discovered.

I honestly never expect much from kids movies. They are made for kids after all, so the plots need to be simple, yet entertaining. Surprisingly, this movie was darling. We have watched it about three times since it came in our house and I kid you not when I say my husband TEARED UP AT THE END!!!!!!!!!! (OK, i did too) Charlotte enjoyed the dogs, we enjoyed the message, and it was an all around perfect family flick. And anything to save me from another episode of Max and Ruby is completely welcome.

I was just on the website and its pretty interactive. It “retrieves” the site and “fetches” the content. LOL! If you own a dog, head over and Make your Dog a Star by creating a custom poster or DVD cover with your dog right on it.

Polliwalks Review and Giveaway (may 1st) CLOSED

polliwalks_blend-new

Once upon a time,
children’s shoes were taking themselves a bit too seriously,
and feet were not having any fun.
Then one day, a new brand named Polliwalks™ was created.
Polliwalks™ brought fun back to children’s feet. All the children loved their Polliwalks™.
They took them home, quickly became best friends, and lived happily every after.
When was the last time a shoe looked you in the eye and made you smile?
Feet have never had so much fun!
Go on, go outside and play!

And so starts the opening of the Polliwalks website.

Lets be honest. When the MomDot Review team got offered these shoes, I thought….OK, ill give it a shot, although I’m not a big fan of similar versions of this “type” of shoe. I had to eat my words big time when they arrived. Not only were they cute and cuddly, my daughter has not pried them off her feet in a month. More arguments have stemmed in my house from her wanting to wear these to everything, then any other item around here.

Anytime I get something I want her opinion on, I don’t let her see me open it yet. I sit her down and tell her I have something for her. Then I get the camera and video tape her reaction so you get the genuine feeling from her point of view. Here is what she said:

[flashvideo filename="videos/polliwalks.flv" width="448" height="361" /]

Some of the benefits of the shoes:

  • FUN and Colorful animal shaped shoes (pat. pending)
“Footprinter™ Bottom” (pat. pending) Each shoe bottom features the footprints of the animal that the shoe represents. Step in mud, sand, dirt or water and leave footprints behind
  • Superior fit as compared to competitors
  • Comfortable
  • Molded Soft Foam Construction
  • Easy on/off for young children
  • Easy to clean: Styles made exclusively of foam material can be hosed off, washed with a damp sponge and mild soap or machine washed (cold water wash, gentle cycle, DO NOT tumble dry – air dry only).  Styles incorporating other materials, like faux fur, can be wiped with a damp sponge and mild soap and air dried.
  • Waterproof closed cell foam material
  • No Waste Manufacturing – all excess material created from molding process is recycled.
  • Environmentally friendly packaging – tags and hooks made from recycled paper and plastic, minimal packaging used.
  • Environmentally friendly water based adhesives used in manufacturing.
  • Vegan- no animal products are used in manufacturing process.

Mom Approved:

1) Yes, I would purchase a pair for my child or for a gift. In the past month they have been durable, adorable, and comfortable. They also come in a variety of styles for girls and boys and would be cute to have a few choices over the summer months.

2) POPULAR! We get stopped a lot and asked where we got these. They are noticeable and different.

3) The pair we had had a liner to make them soft on the inside. I liked knowing that Charlotte’s feet were cushioned.

Mom Improvements:

1) This is not really an improvement but more of a mom watch out. Charlotte spends a lot of time at the park and a lot of parks around here have that wood chip ground. The sticks from the wood chips do get stuck on the lining of the shoe very easily.

Hence: The arguing with Charlotte over wearing them to the park.

Digging tiny sticks out of the lining of the shoe is not fun. That is not the shoes problem, its ours, but just a warning so you dont end up for an hour doing what we have had to do.
