ABIE Lists Top 50 Most Influential Mom Bloggers in Online Media

And check it out…we made it along side some FABULOUS company. We bow at the greatness.

Usually the only lists I make it on are the ones I make up myself.

And it only took two years of being a blogger to say: WE DON’T SUCK!!! WE DON’T SUCK!!!

(hey a little validation never hurt anyone)

At this rate, I might be on Oprah in 2044!!!

To read more about this list and the PR firm, please go here.

They also list male bloggers, tech bloggers, etc etc.

I thought this list was pretty well rounded personally, but I still feel like its missing Scary Mommy.

Not right now, honey, blogs are putting newspapers out of business.

Yesterday Holly sent me over a NY Times article (a term used loosely as it was more of a ‘commentary’ than article..article would imply research) since it mentioned me, written primarily about Bloggy Bootcamp, the whole mini conference deal that SITS is doing. You know..another conference I’m not a speaker on?

Cause I know nothing about making money online, building communities, or otherwise branding .

*cough*

Im not pregnant, Im just fat……..

[private]This morning I woke up and had a comment in moderation. My blog must have been trying to save me from this comment when it put it into moderation…….when I opened it up to approve it, I had this on my Funky Friday post:

I thought……..im not pregnant. Did I say I was pregnant? OMG. Do I LOOK pregnant? I go rewatch the video…and I assume she meant from this part of the video..

While that comment would have been sweet, if I WAS pregnant…let me assure you all….i am NOT PG. I had on some velvet pants and the tops of them were too big. I put on an undershirt and a shirt that has a lot of material at the bottom, its stretchy, and it had rolled up. In fact, there is SO much material on this shirt, I wore it in Vegas…as a Dress. A short dress…but a dress.

See:

Now you have caused me to go outside and have a ritual burning and burying of my pants and shirt.

I had some friends a few months back play a big prank on me and told everyone I know that I was pregnant…so I opened up my email and had 50 emails congratulating me on being pregnant. I was like, I’m pregnant? While that was funny, I really think the blog visitor thought I AM pregnant. So I took a few photos this morning to prove that I am NOT.

I do not have a perfect body. I am not 21 anymore…I am 30…..I  have had a child. My skin has stretched and is never going back.  Also, honestly, a lot of it comes from the fact that I have NO BOOBS. So its an illusion that my stomach sticks out, but its really that I have no boobs.

The funniest part to this all is that we got this Slendertone thing in the mail this week. Where it came from, I do not know. I think the company wants me to try it out? Its one of those things you put on your body and it contracts your muscles while you are “doing nothing”. I saw it on an infomercial this morning in a coincidence. So I rushed to get it out after that post……….my husband decided to video tape me. And yes, I did pick a wedgie on camera. We are all friends here, right?

So lets just stop this rumor right here. I. Am. Not. Pregnant.

Now im going to go eat a doughnut. Thanks.

Small Talk Six: The Daze of Summer

smalltalksix3001Want to join in?  Go here to learn how and  to view the weekly list Small Talk Six topics for 2009.

Today’s topic is “6 things you’ll miss (or won’t miss) about summer.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

This one is going to be an easy list for me since I am sitting here dripping in sweat and working through a sinus headache.  Although I cannot wait for autumn to arrive, I will do my best to think of at least one thing I’ll miss about summertime.

Here are my six:

1)  Here in Massachusetts, the humidity is dreadful sometimes.  It could be just 70 degrees and you can still feel all sticky.  I will not miss the humidity!

2)  I will not miss the bugs who manage to find that tiny little hole in the window screen and get into my house.

3)  I will not miss the allergies.  I can’t win here.  When it’s dry and breezy, the pollen kills me.  When it’s rainy and muggy, the mold kills me.

4)  I will not miss the landscaping company who comes almost daily to mow the vast lawn for our group of townhouses.  The mowers are so loud when we have the windows open that we can’t hear each other speak without raising our voices, the twins have trouble napping through it, it drowns out the television, and I just can’t hear myself think sometimes.  They need to hire more people so they can finish in one or two days.

5)  I won’t miss the gigantic electric bill from running the air conditioner, ceiling fans, and window fans 24/7.

6)  When my son Jake starts school this fall, I will miss him keeping the twins occupied in the mornings so I can lie in bed for an extra 20 minutes and mentally prepare myself for what’s to come that day.  I told you I could think of at least one thing I would miss.   :)

Now go post your own list on your blog (don’t forget to grab a button) and then leave the direct link to your post on Mr. Linky.  Then go check out everyone else’s Small Talk Six lists and leave them a comment so they know you stopped by.  If for some reason Mr. Linky isn’t there, just leave your links within a comment.

Update in Trisha’s World

picture-10Things you may be wondering about in my life…or not. Either way, I’m gonna talk about it anyway:

1) My fav pair of awesome jeans now has a hole in the seam around the waist band. Since I look like a fat ass in the other ones, I’ll be the girl in the cute jeans with a hole. Wave ‘hi’ if you see me.

2) We finally hung the pictures on the wall, but sadly, the fish tank is still in need of some love. I think I have gotten immune to the “roadkill” smell that is coming from it.

3) Walmart gift card hasn’t show up yet, but they keep assuring me it will soon. I’m getting anxious. Nearly all my purchases I say “if I had the gift card, it wouldn’t come out of my own pocket”, which makes shopping even more painful and tedious then it usually is.You think Walmart would let me video tape my first $1000 going down the drain when I get it at the store?

4) Dyson Diva’s march sign ups…..I have put some thought into this and know how I am going to pick the next 2. Ill talk about it more tomorrow. It won’t require “sign ups” in the same way.

5) The cat is STILL going crap on the floor in the laundry room. If it was legal to duct tape her to the cat box, I would do it. I swear I would.

6) Crazy Halloween neighbor is moving soon. His wife’s dad died, so they want to move home to her family. Halloween just wont be the same this year.

7) If you inquired about the PRO-TEAM for the review page, I have NOT emailed anyone back yet. I am still weeding through the emails for the call for 50 bloggers for non baby products (which, btw, I need about 10 more that receive over 10K visitors a month, please email!). Holy crap, I was the 3rd most “retweeted” person that night and it resulted in a MASSIVE amount of email. Please forgive me. I have filed you to email next week.

8 ) Going to try to talk my DH into doing “all the single ladies” by Beyonce for Funky Friday. I think it may require some sort of bribe.

9) Its cold here. I’m talking like 20 something outside. That is just NOT normal for Alabama. As if I could be a hermit anymore than I already am, its making it worse.

10) We have many, many, MANY contests and reviews coming up, but we are going to keep them all on our review blog. Please remember to visit those during the week if you are a contest person. Ill do my best to remind you.

11) Remember that car accident I got into? They never called to file a claim. I even followed up and they said they would call me and never did. I am hopeful we are in the clear. On the downside, the home owners is still being figured out. I live in a hurricane prone area and the insurance company pulled out of our county. Unfortunately we had a fire a year ago, so getting a decent priced insurance was very difficult for us……isn’t that some crap? Oh, we will take your money IF you never have a claim. Now the one we have had for a year is going away and we are at square one again. DH sent me some good news today, so hopefully it all pans out for us. Otherwise, Ill be putting my house on the market and moving to Florida.

12. I am thinking of making my DH take me on some sort of vacation for our anniversary this year. Just for the weekend since my parents work and his parents suck. Maybe Vegas? I don’t think we can get to like the Bahamas and back so quickly.  Maybe Beaches can sponsor me and I’ll blog from there. Wouldn’t that be sweet?

13. I realized that the Dottie Awards went down a day early….25 people emailed me to tell me. It was because I upgraded the blog and it took off the polls. I apologize.Ill give you all an extra day and reset it to accept. Ill announce it when I do. Probably later on or tomorrow.

14. Last, not not least, I have to update the freaking blog AGAIN. I lost my italicize and since italicize and I are BFF, I have no choice. The downside is, I lose all my customizations and it takes about 4 hours to get them all back up. Its maddening to say the least.

Someone get me a coke.

The Philosophies of MomDot

What is MomDot?

First and foremost, MomDot is my personal blog. I wanted to have a place where blogs could come together and meet up. Simply put, I’m lazy and wanted y’all to come to my spot and enticed over 600 of you by listing your links and giving you love on a monthly basis with interviews and links and all that good stuff. I hate to be lonely, so I’m glad you made it. Second, I managed to talk two my best friends into helping me and spending 20 hours a week on something I  barely can pay them $20 a week for. *hehe* I’m starting to think they are gluttons for punishment.

How do you keep your reviews and contests straight?

During our launch party, we found ourselves getting overrun by contests (and with good reason), so I was able to find a template to keep them a bit separated from our main content, which I love and it helps me run contests and reviews while still being able to reach out on other ideas not mixed in and forgotten I think its a great idea to keep spreading knowledge about amazing mom companies and of course products from the largest companies, all while keeping up with our regular content! Plus, we have been able to give back and reward so many of our visitors. Today we pulled a stroller that went to a very deserving foster mom and its stories like that that keep me plugging on. I don’t really want to turn into a review blog, so I try to spread out who takes the reviews that are offered to momdot, so I don’t get stuck doing most of them. Its nice to have so many that are better at this reviewing thing then me, willing to put their opinion out there for our visitors! Upcoming reviews with dyson, Kristen Andrews, Scrapbooking programs, anti aging lotion, and more!

How did you get started?

I have worked with online forums, chat rooms, building websites and doing SEO for  real estate companies, as well as, building online boutiques for women, for almost 5 years. I started in college with an online forum, had a website way back then, and my knowledge has blossomed for over 10 years. For awhile, I thought I would end up in website design! I had a website that I constantly changed the material, ran interviews and games, and a blast with, but the HTML format was difficult to change on a daily basis.  I also ran a website for my daughter with videos and updated pictures, but again, harder to update. I then started running a blog instead, but found it too much to keep up as one person. I like a community feel where more then one person is involved in helping. Its a great feeling to exchange knowledge in a free base area where everyone has something valuable to put forth! I soak up things like a sponge from people I am surrounded by daily.

Who works for momdot?

Here on momdot, we have approximately 10 girls (and 2 guys) that contribute on a weekly to biweekly basis, and an entire forum that assists with article ideas, questions, interviews, graphics, and more. We truly are a self contained world. Almost every graphic you see on MomDot was completed someone in our blogging community. Alicia, Bridgette, and I all specialize in something weekly that needs to be done, but we also work interactively and if someone needs something and doesn’t have time, the other person picks up the slack-no questions asked. Its great! I am going on a trip and get to hang with alicia in Disney world in 2 weeks. WOO HOO!

What is momdots goal?

While my intentions were to only do listings and features in the beginning, with “how to” articles in between, I soon realized i have a lot to say, and wanted to get to know you, to become and actual part of the community and I changed where MomDot was going and made it much more personal. As you can see, we often put upwards of 10 articles a day up we have so much to say!  We have proudly listed over 600 blogs in the past three months, in a LARGE part by a HUGE amount of people helping that out, and have done countless interviews with bloggers and boutiques alike, we find that our most popular articles are everyday mom experiences, rants, raves, and family time. We have a great time joking, playing, and interacting on a daily basis with our users! Whats great is if you want a more personalized experience, you can just join us on the forum and get to know us as friends too! Blogs are notoriously independent and a one person deal and that is NOT the kind of thing I wanted. I wanted a Blorum or maybe a Blogum (my new word for blog/forum).

Where do you get your ideas?

I have a business blog and have been sharing ways to create a business over there for a long time and have written countless articles about hosting, website naming, creation to completion in business and blogging, running online forums, and more. I am so glad that this blog has given me an arena to dig out those old articles and brush them up with current material,  and put them in front of new eyes!

There is a ton of great ideas out there on blogs and website all over the net, and we are proud to bring you our 2 cents when we can. And we also take a TON of our ideas straight from our forum where we see what issues day to day bloggers and moms have. They ask a question and we say…hey, we will blog it for you!

Who are your idols?
Absolutely 5 minutes for Mom. They are an inspiration and I really admire them. Not only for who they are, but for what they have done in the blogging community. I also have everyday idols from bloggers i meet on a day to day basis that help keep me grounded, teach me things, and share ideas unselfishly and as a community. I couldn’t thank them all in one spot, but I would like to give a shoutout to Kim, Cat, Yasmine, Trisha, Leah, Jenna, Rachel…you get the point. LOL

How do we get involved?

There is info all over our site on how to get listed, get a feature on our site, or simply join our forum to chit chat! This week we have a blog party and its going to be a TON of FUN and we want you to come back and share all your holiday memories with us (starting wed! Yikes!). If you have someting you want to write for us, an article or expertise, just hit me up. The best way is to join our forum so we can get to know you and you us.

And please, if you haven’t already, take one of our banners and become a MomDot girl too! Thankyou for making us so welcome and we hope we continue to bring you ideas, sponsors, articles, and friendship you want to come back to day in and day out.
