Mardi Gras is Over. Sad Face.

I had a wonderful time last week! My friend Blondie (also a Blogger) flew in and stayed with my family all week. I met Blondie/Nicole about 4 years ago online and she is one of my best friends now! I toured her around Mobile, which doesn’t seem that exciting, but she planned her trip during Mardi Gras so there was plenty to do.

I got to take her to her first Mardi Gras Parade, we went to Ruth Chris, Dauphin Island, we stayed out at a hotel one night and went to the movies, and she was insistent on the Southern Food Tour featuring Carrabbas, ChickFilA, and as much sweet tea as she could drink.

It was a pretty gluttonous week. mardi gras mobile

Lynsey (her blog), also one of my best friends, came in and they were my hot dates at the Mystic Stripers Ball.

And while there was a bit of problem with the “Mascots of Southern Style” parade (I believe a tire blew on one float and an axle broke on the other), the whole night was very fun!

SOOOOOOOOOO much better than the Conde Cavaliers Ball from 2012.

(view from my room of a float being escorted out of the route)

Earlier that day we spent about 5 hours getting ready at the W Salon (ask for Mitch!) , went to lunch at this divine little place called Montegos, then scrambled down to our hotel to eat more.

Then we stayed up, drank and danced till the wee hours of the morning.

Of course Lynsey was up at 6am ready to start the day already.

But I forgive her.

Special thanks to my sexy husband for having the courage to escort three ladies to the dance and put up with (and request) the wobble, camera holdings, and bathroom visits.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Till Next Year!

Mobile Mardi Gras Parade Schedule 2013

I bet you think that Mardi Gras started in New Orleans.

It didn’t.

New Orleans would like you to believe that and yes, they have some fantastic floats and parades, which combined with debauchery, nakedness, and alcohol, can be a lot of fun. But Mardi Gras actually started in Mobile, Alabama and the first celebration was in 1703. Mobile actually takes Mardi Gras very seriously and last year Charlotte had an ENTIRE WEEK off of school for it.

*head in hands*

Thankfully this year she just has a few days off which I can handle.

And Chris joined a Krewe! He has some friends at work on one and was invited in and he has been really enjoying it. As a result we are headed to the Mystic Stripers Society Ball in about a week and bringing a couple friends. I am looking forward to the parades, masks, moon pies, and ball gowns. I am also looking forward to the night away from the kids.

And goodness knows I have already eaten my weight in King Cake this year.

Today we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the Mystic Striper Society floats when they opened it up for viewing for all the family members. The theme is “Mascots: Southern Style” and I was VERY impressed with them! That parade is going to be fantastic so I encourage you to attend if you live in or around Mobile.
