Nakey Night.

I know I am a tad late on getting this up, but I have an excuse. Charlotte has a fever and I ran an hour class last night that turned into 2.5 hours. That being said, I apprieciate you reading through our DAY #4 of the KY challenge.

Nakey Night

Va-voom.

Day 4 was hilarious to say the least. The premise was that couples (women especially) need to get comfortable with our bodies. We are worried consistently about fat, hair color, stretch marks, wrinkles, and a billion other things that most likely no one but us notices anyhow.

KY Challenged us to have a “naked night”.

And not just any naked night, but to hang out, in your home, doing normal things…naked. I honestly thought this would be super easy. Neither my husband, nor I, are ashamed of our weight or our bodies and we see each other in the buff every day.

Case closed.

But as I was standing in the kitchen making hot chocolate {for the record completely dressed} and my husband strolled into the kitchen completely nude, I about busted out laughing.  Naked in the bedroom is one thing..naked in the kitchen is just awkward.  In fact it’s really easy to ignore your naked husband getting out of the shower, but when he is in the kitchen pouring a glass of juice naked…you ignore nothing.

Plus, if I hear the joke “oops, I think I dropped this quarter” one more time…..

Let me give you a tip if you do this challenge and have leather couches..put blankets down on the couch FIRST. No, really. Your butt cheeks will stick. I also think this works best if you have a fireplace in your living room and can drink some wine to ease the hilarity.

So there we were….watching Criminal Minds. Naked.

Rock on.

Dont forget to down your KY Intimacy Experiment Booklet For Free!

I wrote this posting while participating in a blog campaign on behalf of K-Y® Brand and also received product samples to help facilitate my review. In addition, K-Y® Brand sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate. You didn’t think I was gonna talk about my sex life for 10 days for your personal enjoyment, right?

My favorite beauty products

I am a sucker to try just about any beauty product on the market.

I really love it all..new mascaras, lipglosses, lotions…but I have found that regardless of cost, commercial, or claim, not all makeup is created equal.

Here are my favorites pulled right out of my arsenal of beauty in hopes to save you some cash next time you are in the market.

Favorite Eyeshadow

bareMinerals Liner Shadow

I own over 200 eyeshadow colors…all makes, shapes, and models and the one eyeshadow color that never fails no matter what color hair I come home with, is bareMinerals “Tigers Eye”.

(this picture is kinda deceiving on the actual colors the minerals are)

I got this in a pallet of 3 separate eyeshadows during Christmas called the Animal Instincts Eye Set. Tigers Eye is a shimmery dark khol brown. One of the other shadows in this set is called “Panther” and its a very shiny copper that works in a lot of situations as well.

While the 3 piece kit is no longer available to my knowledge, you can buy all the colors separately for $13 a piece. The biggest issue with this shadow is that it can be seriously messy, so take care to have good makeup brushes and clean hands.

Favorite Blush

Cheekers by CoverGirl

I have tried a great deal of blushes and sometimes getting that exact right “natural, not too over the top” look, can be hard. I either put on too little or too much with a lot of brands, but CoverGirl blushes never fail me. Perfectly within the budget, you can pick up several shades from day wear to night time.

I prefer Cheekers in “Pretty Peach“.

Favorite Mascara

Blinc Kiss Me

Someone introduced me to this mascara many, many years ago. Unfortunately you can only get it online and its a bit pricey, but 100% worth every penny. The claims of the mascara are true.

Formerly known as Kiss Me, blinc is the original mascara invented to form tiny water-resistant “tubes” around your lashes rather than painting them like conventional mascaras. Once applied, these beauty tubes bind to your lashes and cannot run, smudge, clump, or flake, even if you cry or rub your eyes. Whether your daily activities take you from the office, to your sweaty workout and then out to dinner, your lashes will look as good in the evening as they did when you first applied blinc in the morning.

Over the counter, my current favorite mascara is called Lash Accelerator by Rimmel London.

It has lash grow complex and the brush is fatter in the middle than on the sides. I find that it gets my lashes the longest, but it can smudge if you are not careful.

Favorite lipstick

Marvelips

My favorite every day lip stick is actually a lip crayon by Soap and Glory. If you have not bought these products, they are fun and funky and available at Target. It comes with a mauve on one end and a white sparkle on the other side. Marvelips gives you seriously pouty sex kitten lips.

Get gorgeous, full and curvier looking lips now! No collagen injections necessary! Introducing Soap & Glory’s instant effect lip super sizing colour, shine and shaping crayon – Marvelips!™ in a perfect everyday ‘nude-tral’ shade.

SuperStay 24 hour color by Maybelline

Stay color has come a long way since I was younger and I have found this new attempt by Maybelline worth the pickup. Your color is on one side and your conditioner is on the other side. Its not overly dry, especially if you use the gloss that comes with it (its not shiny gloss, just moisture gloss) and does last quite a few hours without any reapplication.

My favorite color is “Very Cranberry“.

Favorite lipgloss

MoistureShine by Neutrogena

I buy Moisture Shine Lip Soother by Neutrogena in “glisten” and it smells heavenly…like apricots. It also keeps my lips from going dry and adds a nice high shine gloss.

Neutrogena® MoistureShine® Lip Soother hydrates, soothes and protects dry lips on contact with beautiful high-gloss shine. The unique hydragel formula contains cucumber, chamomile and glycerin for intense moisturization. Carry this pocket-portable gloss with you for use whenever you want hydrated, beautiful lips. Available in 9 glistening shades: Shimmer, Glimmer, Glisten, Shine, Gleam, Sparkle, Sheen, Glaze and Glow.

Favorite eyeliner

Buxom Insider Eyeliner

I have been through a lot of eyeliners over the years and my favorite eyeliner that goes on smooth and stands out is Buxom Buxom Insider Eyeliner in “Black Pearl”. You can get it from Sephora and its a division of Bare Escentuals (although a completely separate line).  My only complaint is that when you go to take it off, it really sticks. No matter the makeup remover I use, I sometimes have lined eyes (or shadows under) the next day.

Favorite makeup brushes

Laura Mercer

While I can highly recommend the Bare Escentuals Kabuki brush for application of all around mineral coverage, for a set of good brushes for all usages, grab them from Laura Mercer. You can get a travel set that works great for every day and has just about every brush end you can think of. I know that good makeup brushes can get quite pricey, but there really isn’t a point in wearing nice makeup to apply with a Q-tip. Use the right tools to get the right look.

You can also pick them up at Sephora and I got my set for a budget price at Gilt.

Ok that’s it…my main daily products. Wanna know about a product I haven’t listed? Lotion? Shampoo?  Facewash? Let me know and I’ll scour my counters and update!

And if you have a product you LOVE, tell me about it!

Old is new…right?

Day #3: KY Intimacy Challenge

Today everything old was supposed to be new again. And I mean really old. Chris and I met in high school. In fact I’m pretty sure an ex-boyfriend introduced him to me (hey, thanks!) and pretty much this routine is like…seriously, a routine. Like most old married couples, our days revolve around getting groceries, feeding the cats, getting Charlotte to school, discussing her lack of apparent Southern hospitality, followed up by a good healthy dose of CSI. Oh, dont forget about a rousing game of “do you know where the remote is?”.

And its not like we don’t try. We just don’t try every day. Or every month.

Day Challenge

List out all the things that turned you on when you first met your partner.

I said: His teeth. I know, pathetically weird answer. He still has absolutely beautiful white teeth. He would probably tell you that his hair was his best asset back in the day, but that is because he had to have spent 45 minutes blow-drying it in the morning.

He Said: I was cute and petite and he felt like he could protect me…all 142 pounds of him.

Secondly they want you to ask…are those things still true?

I said: Well thankfully the 90210 hair has been retired, but yes, his teeth are still flawless. More than that, he was just a boy when I met him but now is a grown man, so really his attributes have gotten stronger over our relationship.

He said: You’re not cute and petite anymore. How do I say this without making this sound weird? Your “womanly”. You have grown out of the ugly duckling stage.

Good lord, he needs to stop while he is ahead.

Maturity clearly has its advantages.

Regarding negatives, I think overall Chris can be negative with no need to be. I know where he gets it, but the truth is he doesn’t need to be negative. Sometimes the smallest thing can be the biggest thing to him and his patience isn’t exactly what it used to be. I suppose having a child does that to you. I also cant stand that he drapes his clothes on the bottom of the bed rail, but I’m pretty sure he cant stand that I leave towels on the bathroom floor, so you take some, you give some.

Chris said that my most negative attribute is that I am stubborn and hard headed.

If you are wondering, today didn’t end in a fight like yesterday. Amazing.

Evening Challenge

This part of the KY Challenge was pretty funny. They wanted you to head out, separately, to a previously agreed upon pickup spot and “meet” each other. Totally come up with a name, a profession, all of it and basically meet, flirt, and rekindle the old…to new.  This would have been all fine and dandy if my profession wasn’t “Single mom of 6 year old whom is currently pregnant”.

That isn’t exactly hot barfly material.

Even if it would have been fun to play along on this adventure, we have a child with a bedtime and going out to meet each other on a school night…doesn’t exactly sound like a good parenting technique. Oh, and its that little thing about leaving your child at home unattended is against the law rule.

We did however go out to a Superbowl party, with Charlotte, and hung out with friends which totally deviates from the norm around here. Usually its just us and a DVR. Getting out to be an adult and hang with adults watching an adult program has its own factor of old being new again.

So we DID have fun.

Now I would love to sit here and digress on more of our insanely interesting life, but tonight says something about nudity and the couch, and I think I can hear my DH tapping in impatience….in the other room….nude.

XOXO

KY Intimacy..Day 2. #fail

Day two was supposed to be a super easy assignment.

Maybe if your like an adult, which sometimes we are not.

The day exercise was basically work on transferable desire and how often your partner and you interact in positive ways. You were supposed to ask yourself basically how often do you kiss, hug, eat together, cook together, say i love you, compliment each other and a slew of other ways to engage each other outside the bedroom.

I think we totally scored mega high on that. We are pretty good at all those things. I felt confident for the day.

For the evening though they wanted you to turn off the tv, turn on a candle, lay in each others arms….and stare at each other. The idea was that it would bring you closer and maybe lead to closer, intimate sex if you focused.

That didn’t exactly happen for us.

Here is why….

[flashvideo filename="videos/ky_day2.flv" width="448" height="361" /]

Good Grief. Already dropouts.

Day 2 #fail.

Winter Kit..what is in yours?

Every day I chat with some of my online friends that are holed up in the snowy parts of the United States. That’s not saying a lot, because at least 3/4ths of the US right now is being battered in snow, cold, ice, wind, and school closings.

Without rubbing it in, we don’t really have those issues. Not to say it doesn’t get really stinking cold, at-least cold for us, but we don’t generally have the same slick roadways and so-cold-you-could-die scenario that so many people are in.

When you live on the Gulf Coast your whether tends to create other havoc. We fight hurricane season for months at a time yearly, we have hoards of rain and thunderstorms, and lets not forget the old people that live out here that drive 34 miles an hour on the interstate.

What?

Regardless of where you live, its important to have a winter safety kit. Whether that’s because you could lose power due to icy roadways, accidents, and lines, or when you live int he south and lightening hits a box, you should be prepared. While our winter kits most likely are vastly different, you should carry the following things in an emergency kit to be ready for an outage:

  • Flashlight
  • Batteries
  • Blankets
  • Water jugs
  • Camp Light
  • Candles
  • Deck of cards

Depending on your locale, you may also want to keep an emergency kit in the car as well! I cant imagine what would happen if someone got stuck in a snow drift with their children and the car wouldn’t start.

  • flashlight
  • batteries
  • blanket
  • flares or reflective triangle
  • distress sign
  • telephone change
  • first aid supplies
  • basic tools
  • bottle of water
  • a fully charged cell phone
  • jumper cables

One of the other things that we stay stocked up with in case of a hurricane is nonperishable food patnry items and a non-electric can opener.

A few more tips from our friends at Rayovac:

Severe Winter Weather

Winter storms can occur at temperatures that are near or below freezing. In the U.S., heavy snows tend to be more frequent with temperatures between 20°F and 30°F.

What To Do:

  • Keep your car’s gas tank full for emergency use, and to prevent fuel line from freezing.
  • If you must drive, tell someone the route you plan to take and your ETA.
  • If you don’t have anti-lock brakes, pump—don’t slam—your brakes.

If you become stranded:

  • Tie a brightly colored cloth to the antenna and raise it high.
  • Start your car and use the heater for about 10 minutes every hour.
  • Leave the overhead light on when engine is running so that you can be seen.
  • Move your arms and legs to keep blood circulating and to stay warm.

Family Disaster Plan Checklist

Make sure you have the following essentials on hand:

  • Battery-operated weather radio
  • Rayovac® Flashlight
  • Extra Rayovac® Batteries
  • Water
  • Food
  • First Aid Kit (one for your home and one for each car)
  • Prescription and non-prescription drugs
  • Tools and supplies (paper cups, utility knife, hammer, matches, etc.)
  • Personal supplies to maintain sanitation (toilet paper, paper towels, household chlorine bleach, etc.)
  • Clothing and bedding
  • Supplies for infants and toddlers
  • Pet supplies
  • Important family documents
  • Entertainment (games and books)

Recharging in the New Year

I cannot believe for the life of me, its Feb tomorrow.

FEBRUARY.

Pretty soon I’ll be 33, have another rugrat running around and be planning my funeral. Doesn’t it always seem as if the middle of the year drags but then BAM! From October to Feb just flies by. It must be those pesky holidays.

This year to “recharge my batteries” I have been spending much more time with my husband and much less time on the computer..although you would never know it by looking here, right? I live in a typical American household where a parent works, kids are at school, mom is doing this and that and the other and sometimes our paths don’t always cross where we are sitting down together, with nothing else on our minds, with no chores left to do, and this year we have vowed to make our marriage more of a priority over the “other things”.

I guess after 17 years of being best friends with someone things can get routine unless you recognize that they shouldn’t be. It’s work.

In fact we just went on a much needed parent only week off. Read: WITHOUT CHARLOTTE.  We ran over to New Orleans and Biloxi for 5 days and it was a ton of fun. We gussied up and went to Ruth Chris, walked around Jackson Square and had some tarot readings, ate twice at Stanleys, walked through the French Market and then ran to Bioloxi and simultaneously won $200 and lost $300. Awesome.

This year we are also planning our 10 year anniversary. The issue with that, aside from being like 5-6 months PG around that time, will be that we didn’t really want to take Charlotte with us, but its looking more and more like we are going to have to. Should we pack it up and take her to Mexico or the Dominican? I am most certainly not taking her to Tahiti.  I cant decide if an all-inclusive is a place for a child. I mean, will there be anything for her to do?

Or do we just forgo the big vacation and go to Disney World and make it a family vaca? It just seems so cliche and normal to go to Disney.

I guess whatever we do it will be nice because it will be us focusing on us and celebrating my husbands graduation from his Masters Degree, our marriage, and our upcoming changes.

And with the spirit of taking time for yourself, I am staring at a SpaFinder gift certificate right now tossing up a massage or a facial…choices, choices.

—————

Speaking of recharging your life, no matter what your goals are, family, friendship, blog life, dont forget to keep your batteries for those cameras charged up with Rayovac!  Its all fun to create those memories, but dont forget about capturing them as well. There is nothing worse than getting somewhere and finding out your camera is blinking red.  Trust me, I have done it more than I care to admit.

You can log onto Rayovac on Facebook and get valuable coupons to keep your cost down on those products you need. From rechargeables to the all important double A’s, dont be left “in the dark”.

Have a vacation suggestion that we can take Charlotte on but still enjoy the romance for our anniversary? Love to hear it!

When Men Ruin a good photo

I went out with some friends Saturday night (oh yes, I have a few) and I got to find this lovely photo this morning of Mary’s (The girl on the left) boyfriend making a cameo in our photo.

I guess he didn’t realize he would be making an appearance on my blog for doing so.

We went out to Carrabbas, then to a wine bar of all of 3 minutes, then to an adult arcade and bar, then to a little tapas and coffee bar restaurant till midnight. I figured I better soak up all the going out I can get before this demon spawn newborn arrives.

The best part of dinner is when Mary, who used to date my husband way back in middle school and early high school, yelled at my husband for cheating on her. I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard.

Also check it out…is there any doubt who this child belongs to? She is turning into her mamas twin.

You can even see if you look close where her big freckle is on her cheek? I have one too in the same spot, its just lighter. She told me hers is a beauty mark. I asked her if she is more beautiful than I am because hers is darker. She very simply said yes.

No denying this girl….
