Today’s topic is “6 ways you are like or unlike your mother.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

Haha!  I don’t know about everyone else, but this week’s topic was an easy one for me.  I’ve spent years analyzing the answers to this question.  ;P

Here are my six . . .

1) We are both a little OCD.  When I was growing up, she could tell if something was a half a millimeter out of place.  Since I’ve had children, I’ve been much better about not being like that, but I use to need to have the toss pillows on the sofa a certain way, have the condiments in the cabinet lined up and facing front, etc . . .

2)  We are both over-critical.  I am less so than she is, because I am painfully aware of it due to the fact that I do not want to put my children through what I went through (or am still going through) with my own mother.

3)  Here is a way we are not alike.  She talks about children like they are not there.  It is something that can be hurtful for a child.  She did it to me and my sister and now she does it in front of my children and I make sure she knows how much it angers me.

4)  We both think that our children are the most important thing in the world.

5)  We are not alike in that she thinks academics is the only thing a child should focus on from preschool through graduate school, while I think that academics is extremly important, I do think that a child needs to be well-rounded in order to be happy.

6)  We both like eating ice cream, watching sitcoms, and shopping.

Small Talk Six: Baring More Than Your Soul

Today’s topic is “6 things you would like to do naked if you lived alone.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

I have never lived alone.  Before I had children, I use to do a lot more things naked (or with just undies on), especially if I was home alone.  After we had children, I am almost never alone, so I’m having a tough time imagining what it would be like to actually live alone.  Here are some of the things I use to do  . . .

1)  Sleep during the night

2)  Nap during the day

3)  Dance around to upbeat music (Sometimes in front of the mirror)

4)  Exercise

5)  Cuddling with my dogs and cats  (Is that weird?)

6)  Reading a book or magazine or watching TV in bed

I’m sure at some point I probably cooked or did laundry in the nude, but it didn’t happen often enough to stand out to me.

Today’s topic is “6 things you love or hate about springtime.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

My favorite season is actually fall.  Still, it was easy for me to come up with six things this week.  Here they are . . .

 1)  LOVE looking at all the pretty colorful flowers!

2)  HATE that it means the beginning of allergy season!

3)  HATE that all the bugs come out to play!  With me, it’s like throwing a raw steak into a den of lions.  Why do they like me so much?

4)  LOVE that our condo association will let us open the windows to our townhouse again.

5)  LOVE that the twins will be riding tricycles for the first time this year.

6)  HATE that it means hot and muggy weather will be here in just a few short months.  That means our air conditioner has to go on and our electric bill will skyrocket.

Small Talk Six: What Makes You Smile?

smalltalksix3001Want to join in?  Go here to learn how and  to view the weekly list Small Talk Six topics for 2009.

Today’s topic is the “6 things that never fail to make you smile.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

This week was an easy one for me.    Thinking of six things was a piece of cake.  Maybe I should have put a disclaimer that we can’t talk about our children this week?  Anyways, here are my six . . .

1)  Tickling my children and hearing them giggle with glee.

2)  When my dear husband surprises me by coming home from work early.  Yeah, I’m usually happy to see him, but I smile because that means I get a break for a little while.

3) Watching what my 5yr old does when he thinks he’s alone.

4)  Watching my children interact when they are being kind and gentle towards each other and our pets.  (Not when they are fighting over toys or chasing the cat with the plastic frying pan.)

5)  When I wake up peacefully on my own in the morning rather than being awaken by kids yelling, a dog barking, or the phone ringing.

6)  When my husband stubs his toe.  I know that sounds mean, but he stubs his toe A LOT and it’s become an unspoken joke.

Small Talk Six: Romance Is In The Air

smalltalksix3001Want to join in?  Go here to learn how and  to view the weekly list Small Talk Six topics for 2009.

Today’s topic is the “6 most romantic or unromantic things that have ever happened to you.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

Here are my six . . .

1.  (Romantic) The first Christmas I celebrated after I started dating my husband, he surprised me with a trip to the Bahamas!  He even arranged for me to have time off from work to go on the trip.

2.  (Unromantic) When my husband proposed, he said, “So do you wanna get hitched?”

3.  (Romantic) The first birthday I celebrated after I started dating my husband, I got home from work to find a beautiful bouquet of red roses in a vase and two tickets to see Phantom of the Opera!

4.  (Unromantic) We were driving home from work on Valentine’s Day and my husband realized he forgot to get me anything, so he pulled over and bought me flowers from a vendor on the side of the road and said, “Here.  Happy Valentine’s Day.”

5.  (Unromantic) There was this guy I was dating when I was in college.  He forgot to get me a birthday present so he took a long strand of beads  from his mother’s collection of necklaces that she had made and gave me that.  I could totally tell that there was little thought put into it (if it was his thought at all) and it was clearly last minute.  Plus who wants a gift that reminds a guy of his mother everytime you wear it?

6.  (Romantic) Two years ago, my husband gave me a card Christmas morning (which we do not usually do) and it was so beautiful that it made me cry.  Yes, I was hormonal from being very pregnant with twins, but it was very moving.  I still have it and intend to keep it forever.
