5 PR Requests that Drive me Insane

I have been a blogger for 3 years next month. During that time, I have seen some drastic changes in online media and social networking, some good, some not so good, but recently the trends that have been hitting my mail box have become beyond obnoxious.

I thought I would share…the Top 5 PR Request and Emails I get that make me want to poke my eyes out, clog up my inbox for those that actually need me, and generally require I carry a shank at the next blogging conference.

5 PR Requests that Drive me Insane!

Inspirational Facebook stories

Millions upon millions of people use Facebook every day.. me included. I used to not touch social networking sites, which is a very ironic thing to say as a blogger. I just find that spending time on Twitter, Facebook and various sites that are just random interactions suck my time and leave me thoughtless.

That being said, there are some real connections out there and no doubt you have heard of some amazingly inspirational stories that have come out of those connections. To give you some hope that not all social networking is full of complainers that act as trolls to complain about the government, here is a small list of

Inspirational Facebook stories

Jeff Kurze

After 5 years on the wait list for a kidney, Jeff Kurze’s wife, Roxy, hopped on the social networking giant and begged for her husbands life and a miracle to happen. She got her wish in one of her “friends” (Ricky Cisco) who acted as a living donor for him.

Related, the Connecticut mayor, April Capone, donated a kidney to one of her facebook friends.

Sarah Taylor

Also needing a kidney, Sarah Taylor needed one after experiencing renal failure and found her angel only 2 blocks away out of a sea of millions.

Danielle Petratos

Danielle Petratos father, John Watson stated he spent years and years looking for his family. After overcoming PTSD from the war, he found his daughter on Facebook.

Ethel Frederickson

Of course there are many long lost loves, old friends, and of course family, connecting (and probably breaking up) on Facebook, but one inspriational story comes from Ethel Frederickson. Kidnapped at only 1 years old, she was able to find her birth certificate and track down her parents names and then reconnect with her siblings.

Gavin Paros

After his father fled with him 27 years earlier, Avril Grube  found her son on Facebook and reunited.

Lindsey Martin

Certaintly social networking makes it harder to hide and easier to find for adopted parents and children, whether that was intended or not. In this case Lindsey Martin was looking for her parents who were also looking for her. Lindsey was able to find her biological brother and thus connected with her parents.

Small Talk Six: My WWW BFFs

smalltalksix-298x300Want to join in? Go here to learn how and to view the weekly Small Talk Six topics for 2010.

Today’s topic is “6 reasons why your online friends are better than your real life ones.” You can answer this with a list of 6 words, 6 phrases, 6 sentences, 6 paragraphs, 6 photos, 6 videos, etc . . .

For me, this week’s topic was extremely easy.  My list came to me with very little effort.  I hope it was just as easy for everyone else.

Here are my six for this week:

1)  I can be doing six other things while I chat with my online friends and they won’t be offended.

2)  My online friends are very diverse and are not only from different parts of the country, but also from different parts of the world.

3)  I can usually count on an honest opinion from my online friends.

4)  I always find that at least one of my online friends have gone through experiences similar to whatever I am facing at that moment.

5)  I’m not a hugger in real life unless you’re a child or a cuddly dog or cat.  It’s nice that I can give out virtual hugs to my online friends without feeling like my personal space is being compromised.

6)  It is amazing how willing online friends are to give support both individually and as a group.  Although real life friends would like to be there for you to lend support, they are not always able to, especially not as a group.

Now go post your own list on your blog (don’t forget to grab a button) and then leave the direct link to your post on Mr. Linky. Then go check out everyone else’s Small Talk Six lists and leave them a comment so they know you stopped by. If for some reason Mr. Linky isn’t there, just leave your links within a comment.

Has social networking killed the mother?

Actually, let me rephrase. Has social networking killed the the mother, the teenager, the neighborhood block parties, and family dinners? There is no doubt with the onslaught of social sites like  Facebook, Ning, microblogging twitter, Myspace, WP, Blogger, Stickam and of course promotion sites like Kirsty, Digg, Reddit, and stumble upon, that people have a lot to say, lots of ways to say it, and lots of ways to promote it.

But are we spending more time online then in real time?
