Make Something Astrobright: How to make a paper flower

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Astrobrights Papers by Neenah Paper for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Around here, we are pretty crafty. Like super crafty. We make tutus…..

and tutu hair bow holders..

and fairy wands…

You get the point.

So when we received this very colorful pack of AstroBrights papers the other day, I challenged my daughter Charlotte to make something “back to school”.

Here are the results: You may ask what a flowers has to do with “back to school” and she said it was a back to school present for the teacher!

What a sweet girl she is!

To make the flower like she did (or a whole bouquet with the 23 colors that come in the AstroBrights paper pack), just fold your paper like a fan, stack on each other, secure with a twist tie or pipe cleaner, and then crinkle out.

I asked her where she learned how to make such a beautiful flower and she said HER TEACHER!

A very easy and safe project indeed!

About AstroBrights Paper

AstroBrights Papers come in 23 bright colors, so your bright ideas always get attention. And they’re perfect for projects at home, school or the office. Stand out from the crowd — choose a lively AstroBrights Papers for your next brochure, invitation, flyer, announcement or craft project. AstroBrights Paper is about creativity and getting noticed. We provide a bold color canvas because we believe ideas are important, thoughts aren’t shy and we are not afraid to stand out from the crowd.

Give a Brighter Year

You can also help give your local school a great start by entering the “Give a Brighter Year” sweepstakes that would give $30,000 in cash and supplies to your school!!! Can you imagine? Just head over to facebook and enter! The sweepstakes ends on September 10th and I made sure I entered Charlotte’s school. With funding so low in the education system, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to perhaps be a winner for her and her teachers.

How you can participate!

Make Something Astrobright

Now its your turn to make something Astrobright! Get together your scissors, tape, astrobright paper and head over to their facebook page to check out how your imagination can meet winning! Right now there is a contest to show them your paper flowers (surely you can come up with something as cute as my 7 year old did, right?) and win $200! WOOT WOOT!

Now I think Charlotte did a fantastic job with my challenge…do you craft with your kids?

What kinds of projects to you do with paper?

Spring Jewelry Shopping

This post brought to you by Platinum Guild International USA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love Spring shopping. After dealing with fall and winter clothing and dark colors for half the year, Spring gets me excited! I love walking into a store and finding bold colored dresses, sparkling jewelry, and open toed shoes! This year my focus has been on both a new wardrobe (thanks to my recent weight loss) and killer accessories!

When I think about my style I would say that I am the “classic” type. I enjoy looks that don’t fade with the season, but instead remain attractive, and wearable for years to come. I feel that way about my clothes and my accessories. I am also frugal minded so that may be a part of it as well. Why spend $600 on a spring wardrobe only to throw it out the following year?

This year I am thinking of saving all the money I would normally spend on 15-20 different necklaces, that coordinate with my dresses, and just getting one more expensive piece that would go with anything. I figure if I do that every year in a few years I will have everything I need! I love the necklace pictured above. I am a a sucker for platinum.

The reason I love platinum is because it is a strong metal. While I can be a girly girl who loves sparkle, I am also a mom of four, and spend a lot of time playing hard! I need jewelry that can stand up to my crazy lifestyle. I can’t tell you how much jewelry I have broken over the past 9 years, but it’s been more than I want to think about! I even broke a ring before I had children so I guess I can’t blame it all on them!

This year the price of gold has risen so much per ounce that it’s actually higher than platinum, so luckily for me platinum jewelry is now more attainable than ever! The thing I love about precious platinum aside from it’s strength, is the look of both the metal, and the diamonds when they are set. Diamonds don’t lose as much of their sparkle in a platinum settings because the metal doesn’t cast color onto diamonds or other gemstones! Overall I find platinum jewelry to be a better value, with a much nicer look.

Do you enjoy spring shopping? What’s on your “must-haves” list this year?

Losing Walgreens Is A Big Deal

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

In November of last year I got a letter from Tricare notifying me that Walgreens may no longer be an option for filling prescriptions, if Walgreens and Express Scripts didn’t renew their contract. I was very upset, but also hopeful that with a big chain like Walgreens, and agreement could be reached.

Later in December I received another notice from Tricare (military medical insurance provider), and one from Walgreens, letting me know that they would not be renewing the contract, and that I needed to find a new pharmacy by January 1st 2012.

I really couldn’t believe that they could not sign a new contract, because (from what I understand) Express Scripts wanted to slash the reimbursement to levels below industry averages. Walgreens even offered to keep the same rates and didn’t ask for the common increase. For some reason Express Scripts wanted to control contract terms that would allow them to decide which prescriptions are considered generic and brand name (something generally left to the pharmacies).

Issues like this matter most to those of us who have children, and spend a good amount of money on prescriptions each year. As a mother of four, losing Walgreens is a big deal to me. When you have to take your screaming infant to the ER at 2 am and Walgreens is the only place you can have your antibiotics prescription filled because they are open 24/7, it matters. I get the stomach virus every year, and I always end up in the ER after my kids are in bed, and where do you think I go to get the medication that allows me to take care of my children the next day? That’s right… Walgreens! I think I fill 90% of my prescriptions while the other town pharmacists sleep, everyone that is except Walgreens pharmacists.

If you have been affected by these changes be sure to contact your local media, and let them know what you think about this issue! If enough people speak up it may make a difference.

Thankfully Walgreens plans to do everything they can to take care of us. If you are interested in continuing your relationship you can sign up for the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens .
