My cats are mental. All cats are mental. But especially the ones in my house. We got that door installed. It only took the two of us, two trips to Home Depot, lots of hot glue, and about an hour. We don’t have a flush flat door, so we had to battle against the crevices, it was a mess.
Anyhoo.
We put the cats through it and back and back again. They should get it right? Cats were regarded in Egypt as like Gods or something.
But no…..they just sat there last night….and couldn’t figure out how to come back in. They were in the garage just staring through..la la la. I think it took one of them over 30 minutes to come back in, even though all the others had figured it out by then and had walked in in front of him.

But the entire reason we put IN a cat door was due to the stupid Siamese old fart of a cat.
We get up this morning and she had pooped and peed where the box USED to be. Yep, just went right there on the floor. NO SHAME!
I’m trying to decide if killing her would be illegal considering her clear vandalising of my laundry room floor. Wouldn’t it be self defense?

Is that cat still going on your floor? I thought of this the other day and forgot to mention it. You can put tin foil on the floor where this one keeps going (tape it there). They hate the feel of it, so it might deter it from using that area as a bathroom. Just an idea. We did it to keep the cat off the table and it worked.
Your cats crack me up. I thought about putting a door on our laundry room but then the cat would be able to escape when we want him locked up at night. Otherwise he’ll just bang on our door trying to paw it open with his paws.
They make a litter that actually attracts cats to the litter. It works really well…we used it and were super pleased!
It’s called “Cat Attract” by Dr. Elsey. It’s pricey, but you could put their lesser expensive little under it and put the Cat Attract over it. They make a cheaper brand called “Precious Cats” and it’s great because it’s dust free. You can get both at Petsmart! Yay!

Alyce, i hope you have better luck overall! She did it again today!!!
That’s too bad! My husband and I were inspired by your cat door installation attempt (by that I mean you gave me a legitimate excuse to bring up the topic with my husband whom I have been begging to install one for months now). He actually came home with the door today and immediately installed it. Woohoo!
It was pretty entertaining watching the cat try to figure it out. I think it might have taken him longer had it not been for his total hatred of being locked in the laundry room. So we showed him how it worked and then put him the laundry room. It took him about 15 minutes to get out.
I hope your insane kitty starts treating you nicer. Hopefully it will be just a one time thing.

Trisha, we have a cat that is a little on the robust side, so his rear hangs out over the side of most litter boxes (covered or not). We found this litter box that has the opening at the top and it works great. We ended up buying more than one.

Could you take the swinging door part off of it until they get used to coming and going through the hole?

cats just dont understand the door..mine dont. ours is in the screen door so when its cold the one cat uses it as a door knocker to let us know, haha. and i dont even want to talk about the fecal terrorism the other cat performs on a daily basis. i dont know if it is just because he is old…or because he just decided to hate us all of the sudden.
Aren’t cats supposed to be the “smart” animals?
