I have 5 cats. I cant stand any of them. If you have a pet, you know exactly what I mean. You love them like you love your children, they are your children, but they drive you up the wall.
Our five are:
Sebastian: Oldest Male, dominate, meows at 4 am and runs if you open your door, big big cat. Wishes he was outdoors. We adopted him from the human society when we were in college. This was the beginning of the end for my DH..he should have known we were getting married after we adopted a pet together.
Little Kitty: Little kitty came into our house from a newspaper ad on a ‘wild kitty caught’ back in college. Bastian needed a friend so we adopted this cat. He is skittish even after 10 years so the wild never left him. He is about a year younger then Sebastian. He pisses on my piles of laundry if they are clean. I could kill him. He loves chris to death and I think he is jealous.
Napolean: He is our orange big fat baby. He was a kitten when we found him abandoned in a parking lot. I lured him into a cage with my Chinese food and once I got him home and gave him a bath, discovered he was orange, not brown. Our most loving cat.
Mei Sei May: We adopted Mei Sei 8 years ago on our first military tour. She was a part of an abused animal network and removed from an abusive home. She had a rough life before us. She spent the first 2 years of our family UNDER our bed-literally. She spent the next 5 years in our bedroom ONLY. We used to have to fight over who got to snuggle with my DH. This year she finally moved into the rest of the house. She is 16 years old and our oldest cat.
Paprika- We adopted her from a trailer park of 100 kittens and cats roaming. She is our youngest and is not yet a year old. She is constantly jumping on the other cats and its hysterical.
My post is about Mei Sei. Several months ago, out of the blue, she started peeing IN FRONT of the litter box. So we moved it, got her a new one, whatever we could do…eventually put in a cat door to put it in the garage…no matter what we did, she still continued to pee on the floor in the laundry room. If she bothers getting into the litter box at all, she turns around and pees OUT of it. She did this recently in the upstairs litter box and now I have a big pee spot on the floor in my guest room I am trying to figure out how to get up.
I just discovered she has been peeing on the comforters in the guest room as well. She is very old, like I mentioned before she was prior abused, and I think she has just had a rough life in general from all of it.
The peeing thing is driving us BATTY. We clean up cat pee off the floor 5-6 times a day. Sometimes poop off the floor.
I keep threatening to put her down or kill her myself.
But recently she has lost a lot of weight. You can feel her bones through her skin and she is barely eating.
We think she may be dying.
Tomorrow I have an appt with the vet and I really don’t want to put her down if that is the case. I just want her to get better.
Sigh.

I’m so sorry
It is so hard having to put animals down but at the same time it’s hard to see them suffer. We have 3 cats and they’re all nuts but like you said, they’re a little like children. You love them but they just drive you nuts!
Oh my ! I am so sorry. It is terrible. I have two cats and a dog and it breaks my heart to think of when any of them get that old. I can only imagine how heart breaking it will be when I have to put them down. I hope your fur baby will be getting better and not going the other way. You will be in my thoughts tomorrow.
I hope there is something that can be done to help Mei Sei. My heart hurts for you and her…. I hope we get an update.
Sorry to hear she’s not doing well. There are several treatable things it could be.. hyperthyroidism, diabetes. If she is not too far along, she may bounce back. Or it could be kidney failure. These are common problems in old cats. I hope the vet finds it’s something you can work with. I was a vet tech for 20yrs, email me if you have questions. Hoping for the best
DJ
We have six kitties and my oldest is 16, too. She’s not the one who has pee issues, though. With ours, it’s some kind of male dominance thing between the two middle orange kitties, who were part of a litter of three we adopted. They fight and mark, much to my chagrin. Our youngest are two girls who have never quite socialized. They will let me pet them but run if they even hear Bob coming. He is convinced they have something to do with the peeing, although we’ve never seen them mark and we’ve seen both of the orange boys do it in front of us. Fluffy’s done it on both of us. Love/hate, I tell ya.
Oh I’m so sorry to hear about your cat. That’s so sad! But I can totally understand your frustrations with her. We used to have a Great Dane and he was wonderful! But he had food aggression and bit our daughter when she was 3 so we had to get rid of him.
So what did we do? Well since we had just lost a baby and couldn’t get preggers we got her the next best thing…a Chihuahua! Ahhhh…the dog drives me CRAZY(er)! lol I used to love her like one of my kids until we had more and now she just feels like…a pain in my butt! She is sneaky, pees and poops on the floors, destroyed our new faux wood blinds, whines and gets fleas like nobody’s business! Grr…
Good luck tomorrow! Keep us posted!
Awww. That sucks.
I’m sorry she’s so bad off. It’s good she got to spend these last 8 years in a loving home, though.
I’m so sorry to hear that. One of our cats was peeing in different places around the house and we finally took her to the vet. It turned out she had an infection. I hope they can do something for your kitty. Losing a pet is so hard.
I’m sorry Trisha. I hope it is something they can help her with.
I hope she is okay!
This is one of the reasons I do not want anymore animals. It breaks my heart when I lose one. No matter how much they drive you crazy they are like your kids and when they are gone you miss them so much.
I hope things go well at the Vet!
oh no. Im so sorry. I hope what ever it is is fixable!. (hugs)
I’m so sorry. WE just lost our 17 year old family dog. She was so frail. Skinny. We knew she was going to go. But instead of going peacefully she just stopped walking and cried all day (Saturday). So she went to the vet and the vet simply said that was it. No options. Either let her die in pain or put her to sleep.
So…. I am sorry. I know its hard. :hugs: Even when you know whats coming, its hard.
Oh Trisha I am so sorry, I know you love your pet even though she has been peeing in your house. It is never easy to put an animal down. I will be thinking of you and your family.
That is the dilemma with pets, such rough stuff. We went through having to put our dog down last summer and it was hard. Good luck at the vet!
This why I am done having any animals at all. I love them better from afar.
Awww I am a big pet person. I pray your little kitty baby will be ok. Hopefully it’s just some sort of infection that the a pill will fix.
We have an old Himalayan who will pee on the laundry in our bathroom if the door is left open.
I hope things go well at the vet.
Oh no, I am so sorry. I know exactly what you mean though. My two dogs drive me nuts and I have threatened the pound numerous times but it is really just empty threats. I could never follow through.
Sorry to hear about your kitty!! Had a rescue named Jethro, he had been run over and never mended properly (did not see a vet). We had to have most of his teeth pulled and he would literally lay against the fireplace safety glass cause his rickety old body needed that heat.
He started peeing in one spot cause he couldn’t get up to the potty – he wanted to but… just hurt too much.
Ended up that I had to take him to be put down, poor ol’ boy. Broke my heart… I can still see him at the foot of the bed on my side, looking up at me and using his paw to “scratch, scratch, scratch” to wake me up cause he could not jump up onto our bed…
Sending you strength and love to deal with your kitty!!
