The toothfairy is experiencing inflation.

Charlotte has 2 loose teeth.

Great.

I have to be honest, I just don’t think the “no teeth”look is nearly as cute as the full teeth look and I’m sad that we are moving into this stage. Cause with it comes spacers and braces and lowered self confidence.

Not that I can stop it.

So.

On the way to school this morning, this conversation takes place:

——————————-

Charlotte: The tooth fairy is going to come soon and I’m going to get a lot, a lot, a lot of money.

Who has she been talking to?

Me: Oh yeah? How much money?

Charlotte: I don’t know.

Me: Like a dollar? 2 dollars?

Charlotte: Noooooooooooo.

Me: How much then?

Charlotte: Probably about a $100.

choking internally

Me: That much?

Charlotte: Yeah.

Me: Charlotte, I don’t think the tooth fairy brings $100…she has a lot of kids to leave money for.

She shrugs her shoulders…apparently that’s not really her problem.

I feel sorry for the men she dates (45 years from now).

Right now I just feel sorry for the tooth fairy.

——————————-

How much money does the tooth fairy go for in 2010?

$100?

What’s next, a blank check? Santa Clause dropping off a Diablo?

  1. Trisha, I absolutely LOVE reading your posts! You always crack me up and I love how you write. HILARIOUS!!! As for Charlotte, she is adorable!

  2. Tammy says:

The tooth fairy came here for the first time last night for our son. She brought him the Tooth Fairy DVD and $5…the next time, more like $2. Good luck with your expensive girl!

  3. I guess the tooth fairy hasn’t heard of inflation where we live. She still just brings a dollar per tooth. :)

  4. We do $5 a tooth but Mommy (me!) is a little over indulgent.

  5. Jenn@FFP says:

You are so right! It was quarters and coins with my daughter about 8 years ago but now it’s up to $1/tooth and I try to give either $2 bills or gold dollar pieces for first teeth and front teeth!

  6. Lauralee Hensley says:

Wow, we gave a quarter around here. I guess you give what you can afford to and want to.

  7. Melissa says:

Oh, and PS… My pediatrician told me, he’s heard of parents giving their kids $50-$100 or even things like Nintendo DS for TEETH… I was like ummmm no.

  8. Melissa says:

When I was little I got $1. So I’m thinking for the first tooth the tooth fairy MAY leave $5 and a little toy or book…. it may drop down to $2 after that.

  9. Brandy says:

That is too cute! I wonder where she got that from. ROFL My daughter thinks the tooth fairy brings her quarters … I would have died if I heard her say that! LMAO

  10. Veronica says:

I would LOVE to know where she picked that up lol
Doesnt she read the WSJ? Its a recession – even for the tooth fairy.

  11. Carolyn says:

It’s a tricky question. $5 seems like a lot, but it doesn’t buy much. I guess it also depends on what the child spends his money on, or if he’s saving for something.

    Carolyn.

  12. TerriAnn says:

That’s hilarious! We didn’t teach my DD about the Tooth Fairy, etc. so we’re off the hook. We give what we can or want to – or not :) She’s happy all the same since she gets presents VERY regularly!

  13. Jenny says:

We paid my son $5 when they were pulled by the dentist. We figured that was more to endure. Since then, its been $2 each for those that come out at home. I try to have some cool way to leave it instead of just 2 – $1 bills. I’ve given $2 bills, two $1 coins, etc.

  14. Joy Williams says:

Trever lost his first tooth last week. He is 7 years old and a late tooth looser…so we gave him $5 for the first tooth and additional teeth will be $2. BUT my brother gave his son dollar coins and they went over really well so I thought about doing that going forward

  15. Kristen says:

Holy cow!! Gotta love kid perspective. Around here the tooth fairy sometimes gives $1 bonus for extra clean (and well taken care of) teeth…but I think the most the tooth fairy has given around here was $10 and that was probably by mistake. *cough*

  16. Paula says:

Wow! Good thing you only have 1 kid!!

  17. Chris says:

I know that Courtney got $5 a tooth when she lost hers. I guess that is the going rate. Then she can go around and talk about how she got 10 buuucks (AL Accent) from the tooth fairy! I kind of like the $5 first tooth, $1 each additional tooth.

  18. Holy smokes I would say the tooth fairy has really increased since my last one lost teeth. Geezs in 3 years when Miss Olivia starts to lose teeth I might have to take out a loan.

  19. Cheryl says:

LOL!!! $100 for 2 teeth?! I knew the rate for teeth went up since I lost teeth (btw.. The tooth fairy didn’t bring me any money when I lost 4 teeth when I got my braces on, do they have a complaint department??) I’ve heard $5 a tooth. That’s a HUGE inflation from when I lost teeth!!!

  20. Kelly W says:

we always gave $5 for the first tooth and then $1 for every tooth afterwards
