I know its controversial among moms…the trampoline, yes or no. I would LOVE to get Charlotte a trampoline. I have watched her all summer long playing at the neighbors (enclosed) and that girl could jump for HOURS. Her mama, on the other hand, cant jump twice in a row without feeling like vomiting. I attribute that to my obviously amazing physique and over 30 equilibrium.
Anytime I bring it up I get two responses. Either ‘doesn’t matter what you do, what kind of precautions you make, your child is going to get majorly hurt’ or ‘they will love it!’.
Its not like Im buying her a personal ice skating rink:
I found this ultra cute personal trampoline on amazon and it appeals to me because I can put it in the house and when she is being insanely out of control with energy, I can send her upstairs to jump it all out. ($79)
DH thinks waste of money because she will grow out of it…sure, but she is only 4 and it holds up to 153 pounds, so unless we are planning a trip to Maury Povich for our 100 pound 4 yr old, I think we are safe.
I was going to buy that one Wal-Mart had on sale for Black Friday, they had 4 left when we got there. But DH vetoed that one too because he said it was too ‘cheap’.
You would never know this man actually wants to get one.
Trust me, I would love this $700 Trampoline that would take up my entire backyard so we could have jumping parties and get sued by the neighbors kid who would inevitably break his arm on our trampoline (even though he didn’t jump on his all summer).

But since I cant…whats a good trampoline size? Do you find them safe? Is getting the in the house mini one a good compromise or a waste of cash?

I think they are great…. yes you can get hurt on them my 7yr old daughter broke her wrist falling out of it and we have a net around the thing she fell through the opening.. However her best friend broke her elbow at a local playground falling from the monkey bars so my feeling is kids are gonna get hurt either way and guess what my daughter was on it even with her cast on…Kids are going to hurt whether its from Trampolines, pools, swingsets, rollerblades, jump roping, running down the street, playing baseball, basket ball, football, cheer leading, soccer, bike ridding or skate boarding, I could go on but I’m sure you get the point…..
There is a safe choice in trampolines available; the company is called Springfree Trampolines – The worlds safest trampoline.
They come in 3 sizes definitely worth checking out http://www.springfree.com. Worth the peace of mind and no more broken bones
We have a 14 foot enclosed outdoor trampoline. My kids love it. I have 3 kids, ages 9 and 5 year old twins. It’s wonderful for building up muscle tone in legs. So far, we’ve not had any kids get hurt. We do limit the number of kids that can do in at a time and also limit older kids with the little kids. Yes, I’ve heard of kids getting hurt on trampolines, but I also know 3 kids who have broken arms falling off playground structures! My kids have had more injuries for falling off their bikes than the trampoline. Personally, it’s money well spent.
Personally, I would never buy one or allow my kids on them. My niece got a nasty abrasion on her thigh from one that has all of the safety precautions they come with this days. It’s just not worth it.
You know what? As a kid several friends had them. They had NO safety nets and if you jumped too close to the side you were sure to get a foot in one of the holes by the springs and I jumped off onto the ground on more than one occasion. That being said, no one got hurt (badly) and no one sued. It’s sad what this country has come to. Anyway, your the mommy and if you think she wants one you should get her one, I would! I think the personal one is cool if you think she’ll grow out of liking it soon but if you want one that neighbors can play on or friends then you might wanna spring (no pun intended) for a larger outdoor model.
I LOVE trampolines! I’d love to have one for my kids. They WILL love it. BUT, they WILL get hurt. Eventually, every kid gets hurt if they spend enough time jumping. I sprained my neck in college on one & had to wear a neck brace for 3 weeks! It was AWFUL! BUT, I still go on the trampoline to this day! Hee hee…
We have a 14 foot and its a great size, but then again, we have at least 3-4 kids on it at a time lol
The first one we had was 12 or 13 and wasn’t well made. Unsure where it came from, it was a gift. This one came second hand, but the mat and padding was new, and it’s lasted longer than the first. Good stuff!
I say, get it! Shop around. Walmart might not have the selection, since I haven’t been in the market I don’t know what they have? I’d go to a sporting goods store to check it out.
I know trampolines can be dangerous, but I just have to say, I love ours! It’s seriously been one of the best purchases we’ve made. Our kids never seem to get tired of it and entertain themselves for hours on it. We’ve got the regular sized outdoor type with the net around it. (I’m thinking it was around $200 at Walmart.)
I wouldn’t get it. Not only could your homeowners go up, they can drop you all together. But that wouldn’t be my sole reason. If I am not mistaken, the majority of injuries happen while the kids are jumping. They land wrong or jostle their body the wrong way. So it being enclosed, while safer to prevent kids from flying out, it doesn’t prevent the landing aspect.
