Very Non-Blogger of me…(updated)

I want to buy a camera.

*gasp*

Buy…not review.

A simple hand held, put in my back pocket, non lense changing 10megish camera, that can also record video.

And i need it quick. Any recommendations? Im heading out tonight to look.

—————————————–

I went out yesterday and bought a Kodak M380. I decided on that because when i got there, all the Canons were over $200. I own a Canon EOS, but I really wanted something for my back pocket with quick video. Carrying around an EOS is not practical every moment.  I settled on the Kodak because although they are not durable to abuse, they take a decent photo. I have had 3 in the past. I get it home, I charge it up and every picture is blurry no matter the setting.

Ok, I don’t have time for this.

So I bring it back, to find out its been marked down $60 from one store to the next (I bought it at walmart). Seriously, $60? I bought it for $159 but returned it for $99. The two walmarts are like streets away from each other.

Tip #1: keep your receipt always! (which i did thankfully)

canonpowershotI head over to the dept and find the same Canon that was over $200 for $162 AND it has HD video.

SOLD!

So I bought a Canon PowerShot SD780IS12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Black)

I haven’t had a chance to test it. Ill share pics from the party so you can decide if its any good!

Thanks for all your help!

Hey, I’m glad you found a camera you’re happy with.
I just noticed some other comments about blurry shots sometimes. I can’t speak to all reasons why this happens, but one way to try and eliminate ‘camera shake’ is to hold the camera with 2 hands, with your arms (like elbows up) close to your body.
It sounds like a simple enough solution, one that seems like common sense, but a lot of ppl hold their cameras out using the LCD to snap their shots.
Now I know, not all situations allow us to hold our cameras close, like concerts and things in crowds, but if you’re in close intimate environments…like at home, try this little change in the way you take pics, and you might have new-found fondness for your cameras. ;)

We had one of the older Canons, which just died (SD200 I think), never had a problem, hubby bought the SD780 for our trip to CA this summer at an amazing deal… tried it out for a week… LOVED the pics, video was great, BUT NOISY…. I’m talking we tried it out in a dead silent room with nothing on (baby was asleep) and it sounded like there was a window a/c running… sent it to Canon for repair and they said it was “running w/in accepted parameters”. Hubby returned it to whatever vendor he bought it from and bought the Powershot SX200 – which is a little more expensive – but we so far LOVE and is much better as far as noise on video. Also loving the indoor setting and the pets & kids setting for pictures… We also do NOT have a video camera and use this for all of our video of the baby….

This is the same camera I have- It doesn’t always give me clear photos but when it does they are nice.

  5. I’m late on this, but in case you decide to return the other one if you don’t like it… I have the Samsung DualView 12.2MP touchscreen camera. It’s compact, point-n-shoot. Great features; HD video. Amazing photo & video quality. I absolutely LOVE it.

I posted links in the forum to photos I’ve taken with it as well as my review I did on it for Samsung.

Sony Cyber Shot – it has this thing w/ smile recognition and if you jiggle your hands the picture usually stays focused. I love mine.

I know you already bought but I must add that I have a Canon Powershot SD600 and it takes wonderful photos and withstands a lot. I love it. I take most of my review photos with it.

Kodak digital camera does an excellent job of click and shoot plus the option of recording videos. Only thing is, you have to keep buying 4 AA batteries for it. The cost is around $90. Canon Powershot is also another great camera. I used to have one and loved its functionality. Sony is great too – Hubby owns one that he lets me borrow.

  9. No advice, but good luck :)
