I want to buy a camera.
*gasp*
Buy…not review.
A simple hand held, put in my back pocket, non lense changing 10megish camera, that can also record video.
And i need it quick. Any recommendations? Im heading out tonight to look.

—————————————–
I went out yesterday and bought a Kodak M380. I decided on that because when i got there, all the Canons were over $200. I own a Canon EOS, but I really wanted something for my back pocket with quick video. Carrying around an EOS is not practical every moment. I settled on the Kodak because although they are not durable to abuse, they take a decent photo. I have had 3 in the past. I get it home, I charge it up and every picture is blurry no matter the setting.
Ok, I don’t have time for this.
So I bring it back, to find out its been marked down $60 from one store to the next (I bought it at walmart). Seriously, $60? I bought it for $159 but returned it for $99. The two walmarts are like streets away from each other.
Tip #1: keep your receipt always! (which i did thankfully)
I head over to the dept and find the same Canon that was over $200 for $162 AND it has HD video.
SOLD!
So I bought a Canon PowerShot SD780IS12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Black)
I haven’t had a chance to test it. Ill share pics from the party so you can decide if its any good!
Thanks for all your help!

I’m a dummy! I just left his comment on the wrong post! duh!
My Canon SD 850 IS is in the process of biting the dust. It keeps giving me a memory card error saying there is no card when there is one. I’ve had it for just about 2 years and never had a problem with it. I’m thinking about getting another Canon though maybe a 10MP one of the newer powershots. I have a Nikon D40 but need a little camera for throwing in the purse and video clips. Let us know what you decide.
I’m reading your comments for recommendations!
i deleted your other comment for you.
I have two larger camera’s, one Canon(EOS), and one Olympus (that doesn’t suck btw, but it was $1200 when I bought it 5 years ago)
When buying a point and shot, the best thing is to just try them at the store…everyone has their own criteria when it comes to taking pictures, so it’s hard to recommend something.
I have a small photography business on the side with my best friend, and even him and I have differing views on what makes a good camera.
Really, just make a list of what you want in a camera, and how much you’re willing to spend and then visit a special store…not a department store, where the sales people are very knowledgeable and tell them what you need…that’s what they’re there for, and many of them are photographers as well…so they have more interest in the subject, besides just getting paid.
That’s what I would do.
STAY AWAY from Olympus. SUCKS!!!! Massive delay. I have a Casio and love it. I also have a Canon Powershot that I bought 4 years ago and still use & love.
Nikon Coolpix all the way.
Can’t go wrong with CoolPix
I just bought my 2nd Canon Powershot and love it! I only replaced the old one because this one has a 20x optical zoom, the old one only has 5x optical. The new is too bulky for a back pocket, but I have my old one for those needs. Maybe something in between would be perfect for you!
I swear by Canon’s lenses
wow, a 20x zoom?NICE!
I love my Nikon Coolpics. It takes very vivid and colorful pictures! It records video, is 10mp, and HAS internal memory, which I love because we’ve ALL forgotten the memory card at least once or twice when we removed it to take pictures off of it.
good point on internal memory! I didnt find one last night but going out again today. Ill look at this one.
I can tell you what to STAY AWAY from. OLYMPUS. I’ve had 2 of them and I wasn’t happy at all. I’m in the market like you, but I want one that I can do continuous photos on without that LAG time (I have a Kodak now and it has an awful lag in the click & the shot).
I have a Canon ..something..the one with the tennis chicks commercials, but its from 200..6?
This time, last year, I got a Sony Cybershot & its great! The video is awesome, its 10.1 mp’s.. I need to read the manual, but when I use it on the correct setting( by chance, b/c I am the worst with lighting choices) it takes really great pictures!
my DH keeps saying he lines the cybershot too
I have a Canon Power shot &
I love my Sony Cybershot. Takes decent pics and does video.
I love my Canon Powershot – I have the SD1100 IS
I have a Canon PowerShot. Love it. Easy to use, fits in your pocket, takes great pics and affordable.
I just recently got a Kodak camera and for a point & shoot camera, it takes the best pictures that I have seen yet for that type of camera. Even the videos look good. I love my new camera!!
Let us know what you get!
How’s this for being so very non-blogger…we BOUGHT our FRIGIDAIRE washer and dryer that’s to be delivered on 1/27.
And now I’m seeing all the reviews going up with Team Frigidaire so sad that I wasn’t chosen, sniff sniff
BUT I have no commitments but to wash our clothes…which will take up all my time anyways
Have fun shopping tonight!
Yep, the canon powershot! I have one and love it as my p & s
I would agree cannon I miss my old one that hubby took over when I reviewed that Casio (do not buy a Casio at least the model I reviewed) My 5mp Cannon took 100x better pics then the 9 mp Casio and the video rocked! The video on the casio sucks at best, while good pictures are possible it take mucho light and no movement.
Canon Powershot! You can ask the guy at the store how much video it can take. Of course the HD flip is totally awesome. Small video camera, fits in back pocket and takes stills. I want the HD flip SOOOO badly. but the canon powershot is less expensive
i want something that does the camera in one that i can grab and go.. i have a big old rebel digital. I gave my flips to my dad for his business. I dont have anything but my webcam. And i cant video charlottes party!
The Canon Powershot does both video and photos
thankyou!
I have used a friend’s Canon PowerShot (I think the A3100 model) and I loved it. ON their web site at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=183&modelid=19913
I have a Canon Powershot and love it!
This is precisely why I bought an iPhone. It was the same money as the camera I had been eyeing but included the video, phone, internet, and iPod in one device. Less crap for my purse.
