Well, we made it to the 10 day mark from diagnosis to next vet appt. It has been such a whirlwind of up and down and up and down around here.
In the same day, Captain could fetch the ball running and wagging his tail and then be falling down the stairs, coughing, and having his nose running. The one thing that remains constant is our family love for him (and all our pets) and his will to live. He is eating and using the bathroom just fine. He mostly follows if we leave the room more than 10 minutes and comes to figure out what we are doing. He lays down when he gets there and sleeps, but he doesn’t like to be alone.
I just went and let him outside to use the potty and when he came in, he went right to his crate and curled up. Then he changed his mind, I saw him walk back outside ( I left the backdoor open, we have a fenced gate) and he came back in with his ball and curled up with it.
I never thought it would be possible, but Charlotte has been the most responsible, helpful, and loving child since he came into our house. Chris commented this morning that if all it was gonna take to get her to do more things around here was a dog, we waited to long to get one. Not that she isn’t great already, but she is lazy. VERY lazy. Every day she gets up, lets him outside to use the restroom, she feeds him, I dont have to remind her during the day to take him out, she just does it. Last night I saw her trying to get him to drink some water.
She is a good mommy.
Today at 11 we go in for a check up and to see how the disease has progressed. Remember that I am new to having a dog. It is hard for me to understand what a normal behavior is vs something that is an actual issue related to the disease. I can tell changes in his behavior and that stands out, but other than that, I am just bumbling through, trying to just be a good mom to everyone in the house.
I will update you!

PS Sorry if this is full of mistakes, I nearly chopped my thumb off the other day and am typing with 1 and a half hands.

I heard he was doing better? I sure hope so, what a sweet pup!!!
It’s truly amazing how children just step up to the plate like Charlotte is doing!
He is just so sweet and cute. I am hoping for the best! And I am glad Charlotte is being such a doll with him!
Getting a dog was one of the best decisions we made as parents – we don’t regret it one bit. Sending hope and healing to your sweet puppy.
Im so glad that the vet appoirtment went well. I don’t feel likemCaptain is ready to give up! He’s going to fight!
Good for Charlotte. Puppies aren’t easy to begin with, much less sick ones. You must be proud!
((HUGS)) I really hope you hear some good news at the doc today.
He is so sweet. I have been keeping your family and Captain in my thoughts. I hope that you hear good news at the vet today!
I have been thinking about Captain a lot lately. Very proud of your Charlotte for being such a great doggy Mommy! Dealing with a pet issue is very exhausting but you have my support, even if it’s only virtual! Hang in there.
