OOh,Thanksgiving is just around the corner! I am going on a cruise for like a day and a half, then come back and then bam, good food galore!
Its funny because my house has no real thanksgiving traditions like many families. It seems every year it changes where we eat, who we are eating with, and even what we are eating!
One thing I always make sure to bring, even if I am not hosting, is my chicken tortellini side dish. I know its not a classical fall “dish” (then again, I live in the south) but its so tasty and keeps good for days after thanksgiving is long over. Come to think about it, I think I will make it for dinner tomorrow night!
Here is the recipe I have been using for years. The only thing difference is that I add cut up boneless skinless (cooked of course) chicken breasts:
- 1 package (9 ounces) refrigerated cheese-filled tortellini
- 1 package (9 ounces) refrigerated chicken-filled tortellini
- 4 cups shredded leaf lettuce
- 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil leaves or 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
- 2 medium tomatoes, chopped (1 1/2 cups)
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1. Cook and drain tortellinis as directed on packages. Mix lettuce, basil, tomatoes and pepper in medium bowl. Stir in tortellinis.
- 2. Mix oil, vinegar and mustard; toss with tortellini mixture. Cover and refrigerate about 1 hour or until chilled.
As you are probably well aware, Thanksgiving can be quite expensive. Buying turkey, potatoes, dressing, cranberry sauce (does anyone actually eat that?), rolls, corn, and pumpkin pie can add up!
This year Walmart is helping back by showing you how you can get Thanksgiving meals for eight for only $20!!! No, seriously! That’s less then it costs to go to the movies where I am from.

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Walmart. In addition, I received a Walmart gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate and two to offer as a giveaway.

my favorite holiday memory will always be of a big family dinner on thanksgiving with my grandparents. thanks clallen at ntin dot net
I fondly remember going to my Grandmother’s house for Thanksgiving. I always looked forward to the terrific gravy she made and greedily poured it all over my plate. She passed when I was a teen. I’ve been trying to duplicate that gravy ever since (my mom didn’t know how). This year I finally succeeded. It wasn’t a perfect duplicate, but very close
My other fave memory is waiting until Midnight on Christmas eve to open presents, my mom started that one, not me! haha
When my family came in when we lived out of state and we rented skis and went cross country skiing. That was so much fun!
Their was a holiday where us Marines had nowhere to go and we spent it together. That was nice. I enjoyed that even though I could not be with my family.
Their was a time our family would gather for holidays. That was nice. It doesn’t happen anymore but when it did I loved it.
I loved my Step dad’s beans. I miss them. He always puts a bit of sugar in them.
