Want a good laugh?

I think it’s pretty funny, not at the time, but now I do.

Let me give a little backround about my truck.  I have an Ford Expedition which I LOVE and we’ve NEVER had any issues with it.  But here’s a funny thing, last weekend my truck wouldn’t start.  DH of course comes to the rescue and jumps it and it starts back up.  We know that we have to get a battery especially cause we’ve never replaced it since we’ve had it.  Let me tell you that was like a 3 hour ordeal.  Seriously ,every place we went didn’t have the battery that we needed in stock.  Finally, we go to a place and its only $90 for a 2 year warranty & battery, and they installed it for us.

Fast forward to today, I have just dropped off Reagan at school and I’m going to stop at the gas station because according to my truck I had about 10 miles to empty (ya, I know I shouldn’t go that low, but trust me it gets better).  I’m on the phone with my Mom and all of a sudden I notice that my truck won’t accelerate, like the gas pedal wasn’t working. I say to my Mom I’ve got to go my truck isn’t working.  Inside I’m freaking because I just don’t want to deal with something else with cars.  I hate it when they need work and all I could think of was the worst happening.

Lucky enough, I coasted into the gas station.  I pull up to a pump, get my Discover card out because my check card is missing.  It won’t take my Discover.  Not good.  I try and start my truck and pull away, I can’t even start it at this point.  So I call my husband Jamie frantically.  Thankfully he was conducting meetings at a Holiday Inn across the street.  He was able to come over and see what was going on.

By this time, I’m a mess.  I hate the feeling of the unknown and not knowing what to expect.  DH says start the car and he see’s I can’t and that its not working.  He thinks I’m out of gas and of course he’s totally laughing at me.  We have to push my truck back to the pump, he puts his card in and of course he’s able to use his.  We put a little gas in, start my truck and of course it starts with no problems.

My lesson of the day, don’t let the gas get so low that you have to coast to the gas station.  It sucks and isn’t fun, along with partly embarassing if you don’t have a card that works, LOL.

OMG, I can’t believe you were lucky enough to be able to coast into a gas station. I never let my tank get below a 1/4. When I get there I head to the gas pump. My nightmare is sitting on the side of the road or having to call my significant other to retrieve me because I didn’t put gas in the car.

You were lucky your DH was nearby, lol.

I did that today! I had about 4 gallons left in my truck before i was gonna be runnin’ on fumes. i almost always never get that low. especially with having kids, i need to keep as much gas in it as possible, bc i just never know what’s going to happen. like what happened last night…check out my aloha friday post, for my reasoning.

This story is hilarious. I try not to let my tank get below a quarter. I don’t like to push it (pun intended! ) LOL.

I am glad it was just the gas. I had a similar experience but ended up having to have my car towed! Turns out it only needed a new battery but it was worth it to have them do it.

I did this once in high school. I just started driving our truck, which was really old, but my Dad had told me that when it gets low on gas the light will come one. Well, I had a church class at 5am, and I was planning on stopping to get gas on my way to school after the class. I noticed that the car wouldn’t accelerate either, but then it would start, so I wasn’t too concerned about it. (It was an old truck) Well, I make it to class and when I go to leave, the car won’t start. So I go back into the building to call my mom to come get me to take me to school, and the teacher of the class after mine asks what I’m doing back. I tell him my car won’t start, and when I got back from calling my mom, him and 2 or 3 of the guys from the next class are outside trying to figure out if they can get it started. I gave them my keys, and they couldn’t, of course. I told them I was low on gas and planning on stopping on the way out, so that was probably it. I was so embarrassed. My mom got me, and then after school we went back and put a couple of gallons in it, and it worked just fine. Let’s just say it was so embarrassing to have to tell those guys the next day that I had just run out of gas. Now I never let it get that low.

Too funny! Glad it all worked out and wasn’t too stressful. DH ran out of gas last month coming back from Alabama on I-75. Had to walk back an exit to get a gas can and fill it up. Luckily a trooper was at the bottom of the exit and gave them (he was with my brother) a ride back. It was pretty comical hearing the story!

I totally hate that. We’ve only ran out of gas once and it was the dead of winter when I was pregnant, our son was in the car and of course, it runs out in the turn lane of a VERY busy street about 50 feet from the gas station. Making matters worse, we had NO MONEY with us. I ended up having hubby call my mom across town to bring us cash while me and our son sat in the freezing cold car with people staring, honking…ugh.

I fear running out of gas one day. I have let mine get awful low…but so far *knock on wood* I’ve not run out.

Glad it was an easy fix.

I would’ve freaked out too. I’m guilty of running without much gas too. I went to leave work one day, and my car wouldn’t start. Hubby of course blamed me for not having gas or letting something on and having the battery die. Long story short, after 4 hours of trying to fix things, finally got it towed to find out the whole computer system had shut down (my car is only an 03), I just thanked god it didn’t happen while driving. Car problems are so not fun.

I probably would have had a panic attack. I hate when things happen like that. Speaking of your card not working… My Husband constantly goes to get gas and finds out he’s left his wallet at home so he has to leave his Drivers license and come back and get his wallet.

I am sooo not laughing at this one! When we were having our gas shortage in September I drove for 3 days with the gas light on never knowing if I was going to get home. And no one had gas so there was nothing I could do about it! It’s a total panic attack! So glad that was all it was.
