The reason you wash your vegetables

I know, its total gross out day apparently here. But this just happened in my kitchen. I am not good at washing all my vegis, I’ll admit that. I usually cut right into the tomatoes and put in the bowl. I even tear off lettuce and add to my plate.

No more, I tell you.

I am cutting off some celery.

I was thisclose to taking a bite and I see this:

WHERE THE HELL IS HIS BODY?????????????

My entire salad I was imagining I just ate it. It ruined my dinner.

  1. Oh man, that’s the worst, when that happens. It’s happened to me many times too. And I have to admit I’m secretly glad I’m not the only one who isn’t great at washing my veggies…

too funny…of course, not funny if you’re the one eating it.

    maybe that’s why I don’t eat much veggies… =)

  3. You are too funny! ‘Where’s his body?’ LOL! Just think of it as protein….

It’s not so much the real bugs you need to worry about, but rather the hands of the people stocking the produce, and the hands of other consumers touching it, and deciding whether or not they’ll purchase it after they’ve touched it. You really don’t know if the stockers at the stores hands are clean, or if the person who was just around the tomato area may have sneezed on the produce, or touched it with unclean hands and then put it back.
Just best if you always wash your produce as soon as you get it home from the store, dry them off well, or let air dry in a colander. Then put them in clean containers at home. Don’t use the same bags, etc., that you brought them home in, or they could get the germs put right back on them. If you do this, you’ll get rid of the real bugs you can see, and the scarier kind of germs you can’t see.

I wash all fruits and veggies before I give them to my daughter, but for me hmm apparently not so much!

Oh yucky for you! I remember s long ago in high school biology class our instructor had us look at a slide of catsup under a microscope. There were all kinds of bug parts in it! Grossed me out so much I didn’t eat catsup for a long time after!
