What are some of your past jobs?
My first job I ever had was Baskin Robbins. That was a damn good job. Training consisted of making ice cream treats and then eating them. Awesome. I had a job the day I turned 16 and incidentally, got my license as well. It was a fun place to walk into….always smelled good and you know, I don’t remember customers with attitudes. I mean, who comes to get ice cream all pissed off? No one.
After a hurricane hit and our local BR got destroyed, I got a job at Taco Bell across the street. I was drive through. I liked it. I am still not sick of taco bell. It was a pretty piece of cake kinda job.
Once school was over, I worked at the flea market at the food stand. The one thing about that job, was that they didn’t have an auto register, so I had to do all the change in my head. I am pretty much a math moron, so it took a bit to get the hang of it. I made $75 a weekend there, which felt like good money for a HS student.
When school started back up again, I worked out on the beach we lived at at a movie rental and ice cream place. No one ever came in. I am from the smallest island in the world and we were lucky if we saw like 2 customers a week. I sat in there and watched movies and ate ice cream all day/night. Again…totally awesome job. Unfortunately, no customers equals no money so no pay, so shut down.
When I wasn’t working at an actual place, I made money by folding flyer’s and stuffing envelopes for my neighbors real estate business.
When I went to college, I managed to secure a job as a nanny and worked with that family for 2 years before my schedule changed. Then I got another job as a nanny that paid $250 a week, whether I had to work or not. That was so nice. The family was divorced, so there was a lot of carting one kid to the next house, but driving the BMW they had was a nice perk. HA! The downside to that job, was that that house was about 5000 square foot and part of my job was to clean it. You would think a single man who only sees his kids every other week could keep his house clean, but the answer is…um…NO. I worked with them until my schedule again changed.
In my off time, I worked as a glamor/swimsuit model and spent time
running back and forth between Miami and Tampa. You can see this celebrity site lists me as a Playmate…I can assure you I have never been one. I also became fond of the camera and started doing photography. I have done Lots of head shots for models and they became my specialty. I even discovered Ryan online and (used him to shoot lots of photos) he went on to become an eligible bachelor for Cosmo. Chris used to come home and find him sitting in the living room and huff about it. Here is one of the first pictures I took of him (nice to find it online 10 years later).
Later on, I picked up at Busch Gardens as an air brush tattoo artist. Now that
job rocked. I got my own cart, I got paid commission and hourly, and I was left alone all day. Freaking awesome. As you can probably tell, I don’t really like someone breathing down my neck, so the independence was awesome. I also worked there at the roller coaster picture area. Mr. Bush would fly in and everyone had walkie talkies and knew when he was in the park and all of a sudden it would be flawless. He used to hand out “Busch bucks” to everyone if he came and it was perfect. It still remains one of the best jobs I ever had.
After I graduated college (in 5 long years), DH joined the military and we carted off to San Antonio, city from hell, and I spent 6 months trying to even FIND a job. Its not easy getting a job after college. In one way, you don’t want to take some $5 an hour position because, after all, you have a shiny new degree in your hand. But…alas……no one gives a shit and you still get stuck with some job you could have gotten without 30K of debt. I got my first degree related job with Dayton-Hudson, otherwise known as Target. My degree was in criminology and I got a security job there. I spent a lot of time on security cameras, stopping crap from leaving the stores, and even got to bust a manager for stealing gift cards and buying merchandise with them. I recovered more merchandise in my entire district and got some fancy pants award. Woo Hoo! I even got to take a handcuff class. I am actually a certified handcuff specialist. *snort* Could you see me busting someone in Target?
Unfortunately, we left San Antonio like 4 months after I got that job and off to Charleston. I managed to get a job with a college and spent all day lecturing people on the importance of spending 30K to pay for a degree so you could do what I was doing…… Seriously, some days it felt like that. But it was fun, interviewing and touring students. The downside there was SO MUCH PRESSURE. Enrolling was a big deal since it was a private school and I talked people into spending money all day long. Again, top en-roller out of all 8 schools in the US for them. I am a seriously hard core sales person. I ended up butting heads with my ’supervisor’ about 150 times during that job. She was SO jealous because I showed her up every term and she was constantly picking on me. So I finally got fed up and she locked me in my office to get nasty again, and I screamed at her. Subsequently, I got fired, BUT the company told me they would not “fight” unemployment if I filed. Probably because they knew they were wrong too. I was glad to be out of the rule of that place, and lucky I left before I resorted to violence.
I filed unemployment and then got a job a few months later with their direct competition…across the street. They were SOOOOOOOOOO pissed. I bet that taught them about signing Non Compete Clauses. My new job made me sign one. They were not so stupid. I became THEIR top en-roller and loved it when I stole someone from the other school over. Its the small things in life.
When Charlotte was born, I quit work to be with her and went online to find an outlet. (picture: Charlotte 5 days old)
I spent a lot of time learning HTML, websites, social networking, forums, chat rooms, and more. I ran a forum for a long time, but it was too much work and there were too many arguments daily. It got so old and I got so immune to it. I started losing who I was getting caught up in online stuff and started to break away. I always wanted to work from home and started making tutus.
I didn’t really like doing it, I never got the hang of it. This was before all that no sew stuff. I was sewing mine and it was not easy…then I tried hairbows….again….im not that good at it.
I kept going till I found a craft I could work on. I finally launched my own online store in Sept 07 and have been self employed since.
That’s pretty much my jobs in a nutshell….what jobs have you had?

I might need to blog an answer to this too! My worst job: Chick-fil-a cashier. People were jerks!
Easiest job: Frosty the Snowman character at a mall during Christmas
Job that made me feel hip: working in a coffee shop

Oh wow lets see I worked at Red Lobster, Burger King, planet video, wendys, taco bell, Hardees, Blockbuster(my fav!), Harley Davidson, loaded trucks for RPS, as a gas station clerk, as a receptionist for a hospital, as a telemarketer(hated it), for a doctor’s office 3 seperate times, as a personal assistance, ran my own daycare and about to open my own diaper cake business!
I am not sure that is all the places. I started when I was 15 and sometimes worked 2 jobs at a time.
Working at Busch Gardens would be really fun! I also made hairbows and tutus.. I loved making hair bows but really hated making tutus. I’ve been taking a break for a year to finish my classes and I’m not sure I’ll make hair bows again, especially with the new laws starting in Feb.
I was a waitress for Pizza Hut.. I LOVED it! I made a crud-load in tips.. there were days I’d bring home $100 or more in tips and that was on top of the hourly pay and for just 3-6 hours of work, that’s not bad pay!
Then I quit that job to work for a cute little mom and pop diner as a cook. It was nice because I worked less hours and was able to stay home with my daughter more often. But the pay was cruddy.. I should have stayed at Pizza Hut.
Then I we moved to a different town so my husband could finish college and I started working at a daycare that let me bring my daughter. I saw one of the old ladies there get very mean and pushy with one of the little boys there (on two occasions) so I told the boss, she believed the old lady over me and I got fired.. nice huh? I will NEVER put my kids in daycare after the stuff I saw there.
I worked as a telephone interviewer for a month or two and hated it so I quit. My husband got a really good job and I’ve been a SAHM ever since.
I now work 1 day out of the home for an organic produce company and work a few hours 2 days a week out of my own home for them updating their site and products and taking care of their billing.. basically doing everything that she hates to do or needs help with. It’s not a bad job and she lets me bring my two year old. I’m secretly hoping to quit in a few months when we get back on our feet but we’ll see.

Chris said i left out my stint as a car sales person. I forgot about it. I got a job in san antonio when i couldnt find a job and was a car sales person briefly, but i was so sexually harassed daily taht eventually i just left it. It wasn’t worth it.
@ Kristen:

Front Desk girl at Salon (they made me wax eyebrows, rinse perms, and everything else)
Worked for my Dad’s biz, anwered his phones, bookkeeping
After college:
11 years at the same company Staffing Firm
I placed temps in secretary and accounting jobs

my very first job was a cashier/clerk at Michaels craft stores. I had to pay for my senior trip to NYC where our choir was singing in Carnegie hall! This was probably the most craptastic job ever! I love to shop at craft’s stores as I’m many of here do, but have you ever thought about the clean up and day to day running of those stores? Oh my gosh, it’s horrible, all those little packets of bead and scrapbooking have to be put back in all their organized places, It really wreaks of paper and art supplies after you’ve been stuck in the store for over an hour.
My second job was as a waitress at Sonny’s bbq. I hated that job, but not as much as Michael’s. Smelling bbq is fun for awhile, but after 3 months, I still get nauseated by the smell of a Sonny’s restauarant, I can’t eat there anymore. And, that all you can eat mess they’ve got going on, will run a poor gal to death!
My third job was as a hostess at a more upscale restaurant.
During College, I worked in the admissions office and gave tours to potential students, I also was an RA for a semester. I got a job as a clerk at Dillards which was my second worst job. Dillards was supposedly in the top 5 for worst employers because of the way they treat their employees. My final job during college was as a waitress/cart girl at the local country club. I loved this job adn will still do it today if I had to choose a career accept for the pay scale. If you know of a young person who is trying to decide what kind of job to apply for get a job at a country club. They totally rock because you have the same customer’s over and over, who are usually drunk and don’t know what they are handing you in the way of bills I made 100 bucks or more a day! I also loved driving the beverage cart around the golf course.
Finally I graduated and got a job as a paralegal. It totally sucked because I worked for a bankruptcy/foreclosure firm and everyday I was filing paperwork taking people’s homes away. Talk about having trouble sleeping at night.
I’m super happy to be a full time mom now at least until I come up with some super genius idea to make me a WAHM.

In junior high and high school I worked our family strawberry patch and sold the extras for school money. I also moonlighted at my parents sewing factory doing cleanup in the evenings. When I was 14 I worked my first week as a camp counselor and for the next seven years my summers were committed. I only worked at 2 camps but the years I spent sharing love and faith with children from broken, not so broken and decimated homes were the best summers ever!
Then I transferred colleges and ended up in SC where I got a job for Atlanta based Mori Luggage and Gifts. I worked part time through college and 3 months after graduation was promoted to a store manager. I spent 2 years in SC before I was transferred to the second largest store in the company 11 days before Thanksgiving. Not the best time to take over a retail store BTW!
I only survived the open to close hours there for 2 years before I was wiped out and opted for a 9-5 in a bank as a customer service rep. The worst job ever!! I traded that in for being an appointment coordinator for a private dental practice and that would have been cool if I wasn’t working for the doc’s wife. Not cool!
Then the children started coming and I thought it would be a good idea to get into the childcare field as an assistant director. That was all well and good until I was pushed into the director’s position and then left to twist in the wind when the corporate office couldn’t spare the time to help me out in a time of staffing crisis.
Then I took on the title of Mom of 3 and thus ended my professional career for now. I wouldn’t mind going back to work eventually (when they are all in school) but it has been really peaceful around here!

Gee, I have nothing nearly as exciting as you. My first “real” job at 16 was a waitress at Big Boys. Then I moved up to Arbys. In college, I got a cocktail job where we were expected to perform these dances on the bar rails, fully clothed – mind you. That’s about the most exciting my jobs got. I even got a couple dollar bills put in my socks once while dancing – LOL! After college, I worked at TGI Fridays while looking for a job in my field. Got a job in marketing at a mining company and then a hardwood company. Those were riviting . And now I’m an engineer.

well, im 30 years old…sp from high school to college, then we were military for 7.5 years, so we moved a lot.
I can’t believe how many jobs you’ve had! I’m sure it gave you a good idea of what you liked/didn’t like though.
I’ve had a total of 2. I’ve waitressed on and off for 6 years (since I was 18). I still do it 2 mornings a week now, even though I have my degree. No other job could match the money I bring in there in 15 hours or less a week. It lets me stay at home with my son the rest of the time.
I also worked at a rape crisis center (my degree is in social work). Honestly, it was a tough place to be, but I did like what I was doing there.
Good grief woman that’s a lot of different jobs. LOL
Let’s see, I started…
2 years: cashier at a grocery store
1 year: customer service, cashier, stocker at Kids R Us
1 year: aide at Down Syndrome School for adults
1 year: cashier at Walgreens
1 year: 911 operator (great job, but stressful)
1 year: in the Air National Guard, honorably discharged 3 weeks into training for Security Forces unit.
Finally decided that my time was better spent at home with my son and started working from home in 2004 through CafePress. Have been doing that ever since and I’m launching another business on my own in January (diaper cakes).

Wow…how far back do you want to go???
First job was as a papergirl – I used to win all kinds of subscriber contests and used my cash to buy a spanking new bike! After that…candy counter girl at the local country store, then my first of MANY waitressing jobs. Started doing office temp stuff just out of highschool and through college. One semester at college I got an under-the-table job at a store in Manhattan owned by two old Upper East Side ladies. I basically ran the shop while they got their hair done, nails done, etc. Good times. Ran the Banquet hall at a Holiday Inn for a spot…substitute taught at my old high school (while my little brother was a senior!)…then got back into office gigs, first as a customer service rep and evenutally moved on to Customer Accounts Manager and then Project Manager. Once DS came along I decided to cut WAY back and took a part-time job as a Unit Coordinator at the local hospital. I make a TON less money but I’m home a lot more, it’s SO worth it!

I was an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard in St. Augustine, FL for like 5 years. We only worked summers, but it was an awesome job. Got a great tan, lots of opportunities to work-out (though, I didn’t appreciate these as much at the time!). I worked with uber hot guys all day long and got to laugh at all the goofy tourists. I once had an elderly gentleman from New Jersey ask me, “Is the water always that wet?” No kidding. I just looked at him and was like, “Yesss…” and he walked away in this big huff as if he was completely disgusted by our wet water…
I was also a hostess for a while and a waitress…at Sonny’s…worst job ever. I smelled like BBQ sauce all the time!

Oh wow you have had some really cool jobs! I enjoyed reading that. Let’s see… My first jobs were retail as a teen (Wal-Mart, McDonald’s, local grocery store) then in 1994 I landed my (then) dream job as a DJ at a radio station. Two months later, I landed another (then) dream job at the local newspaper. I worked at the newspaper for 10 years and the radio station for 6 years. I hosted a daily polka show at the radio station for years. Fun! lol NOT! I did meet my hubby there though so it was TOTALLY worth it! When I got married in 2005, I moved to Houston and got a job at a consulting firm to the O&G industry and worked there until I resigned earlier this year to be a SAHM… my favorite job to date! LOOOVE my bosses!
