What do you think “responsibility” means.

I was sent this short video and asked to watch it. Liberty Mutual put out a series of commercials that showed people doing for others and in short, it was responded to strongly. So they started making little short films about “The Responsibility Project”.

I know that I feel a sense of responsibility on a continuous basis. I watched The Kite Runner last night and while I had already read (and loved) the book, I wasn’t prepared to feel so strongly again for the plight of the people of Afghanistan. Have you ever had a book or movie touch you?

One of our recent feature bloggers is right now awaiting her call from the adoption agency so she can change a child’s life and complete her family.

Do you ever feel a sense of responsibility on something?

I had a book change my life. It was ” A child called it” by Dave Pellser ( I know I probably spelled his last name wrong), I had always felt like I was called to be a foster parent, but my fear of loving and loosing kept me from it, after reading that book, I knew that I couldn’t ignore my desire to help children any longer, I became a foster parent and never looked back, sure I still cry myself sick, heck, I spend 1/2 my life crying, but if I could give a child safety, stability and love for even a day, that they wouldn’t have had otherwise, the tears are worth it. My husband and I hope to adopt one day soon. I feel such a strong responsbility to all children.
I started a charity called ” A stitch and a prayer” and I make blanKets with prayer cards attached and send to orphanages and local shelters. I also sell them locally in a few boutiques and send the profits for things such as diapers, medicine, formula etc..I wrote the prayer which reads:
    Dear Lord,
as I wrap my blanket tight
    be with every child tonight
    those who suffer
    those in pain
    heal them, comfort them
    I ask in your name
let them know that you are there
    that others love them
    that I care
    fill their tummies
    quench their thirst
    and I pray above all
    that they keep you first
    Amen.

( still cry when I read it, because I am so passionate about it)
My children pray this prayer every night. I think it’s our responsibility as well to teach our children to care about the children of the world.
I think everyone has a responsibilty to care for others in some way or another.

That video is so incredibly sweet.
I do feel a sense of responsibility very often. Even with little things- sometimes, when I pass by litter on the street, it occurs to me to pick it up, and then I keep walking, and then have a little internal dialogue about how it would have been so easy to just pick it up- and I end up going back and getting it.

I definitely have had a book touch me- I highly recommend What is the What, by Dave Eggers. Everyone has been talking about Darfur the last couple of years, but this book illuminated the sociopolitical situation in Sudan for me in a way that was intensely personal and touching. In the same vein, the movie Blood Diamond had a similar effect.

that was a great short film. It dort of reminded me of pay it forward- but here, one person helped another and others jumped in to help

I do feela sense of responsiblilty of things sometimes, whether its a kid who wandered from his mom at the store, ive taken a child to the costumer service so they could annouce his name on the loud speakersm and also helped another child find his mom. Can you really ignore a child in that situation, i cant. If your there and someone needs help, why not help out, it makes me feel good.

Once in highschool my friend and i were out for lunch and this elderly woman(in her 70s or so) fell on the curb while walkin to her car, we ran to help her out, lift her up and make sure she was okay. She was crying, not because she was hurt, but because she as so happy we had helped her out. She wouldnt let us leave without giving us something, she kept insisting shed pay us(which we couldnt except)we didnt do it for money, we did it because it was the right thing to do.

This video showed a bunch of people, joining eachother to find a teddy bear for a sick child BC they all had children and understood how important it was to find this bear.
Similar to when people make donations for a cause..for children, lets say lukemia- someone starts the fund, Some people just make donations and some get involved. Those people who are affected or have children who feel connected or are affected, will want to help. Those who want to help will set up fundraisers, walks/marathons, sell shirts, hats braclets to raise money and build awareness to a cause. Those affected feel liek they have a responibility to help others in the same situation.

Great Video, thanks for sharing. I hope my comment makes sense, i dont have time to reread and edit my spelling & grammar =]
