While walking through Walmart yesterday, I noticed passing the boys section, OP clothing on the racks. When I was younger, and where I grew up, OP Clothing was very fashionable. It was a surf company and was not sold in Walmart. However, I grew up in the household that bought from Walmart..LOL! So no brand name OP over here….but now, you can get it right there. Does that mean Walmart got better or OP got crappier?
I started thinking about all the brands that were big and all the trends that I grew up a part of. What was “the thing” when you grew up?
For me:
* Jellies Shoes (ugg, did you know they sell these ugly things in places like BCBG now? WTF. Let them die. And check out this picture…Jelly Heels. Someone over there at that company obviously has never worn them……they tore holes in your feet from blisters THEN. I cannot even imagine the wrath of a Jelly Heel.
*Slap bracelets. Interestingly, I also saw these recently in a 25 cent machine. I was itching to get one. Nostalgia.
*Tight rolling white washed jeans. Lets not go there.
*This one is my favorite…leggings w/ long shirts and a BELT around the middle. I actually saw someone in White House Black Market (working there) sporting this style last weekend. It was not cute then, its not cute now. I don’t get why trends go BACKWARDS.
*Crimped Hair….with a real crimper. Oh, and put up in a banana clip. SEXXXXXXXY.
What about you?

I remember almost all of the above, and the one I remember most was probably IOU sweatshirts! I wanted one SO bad, but my Mom wouldn’t shell out $40 for one. So, my Aunt got me a knock off one, which was pretty decent, lol, and then finally my Mom bought me on for Xmas. A few months later, nobody was wearing them anymore!
I also remember the chain charm necklaces, I had 100′s of charms! I wish I would’ve saved them, my daughter would LOVE them now : )
My hair was worn in only 2 ways, a side ponytail, or a half side ponytail, my family said it looked like a growth on my head, lol! When I got into high school and finally started wearing my hair down, people didn’t recognize me : )
Had jelly shoes, Hyper-color tee shirts, or Psycho wear, Cavaricis (god everyone wore those here).. Acid wash, and scrunch down socks (and wear a color that matched your outfit, several pairs if possible)… jelly bracelets up your entire arm.. Aqua-net! I actually prefer not to look out my window, because I see a lot of it coming back today! lol
Neon tshirts, heck Neon everything. I had the slap bracelets too and those Jelly shoes. You’re right that is one trend they need to let die. Ah the memoies.
Wow, you totally took me back. Good old 80′s. I remember feathered hair, and elephant ears. (Where you ratted your hair on each side.) I also had some pretty sweet 1 piece jumpsuits when I was 8-10.
I have to agree about the jellies. Those were painful to wear.
I think the brands are getting crappier. When I was in high school, LEI was a good brand. That’s the only jeans I wore, now that Walmart has them, they are so thin and rough feeling. Not at all like they were 10 years ago. Wow, it’s been that long? Geez, I feel old!
Mood rings, big dangly earrings ….
I actually didn’t submit to most trends. I did have EG Socks, though. (Slouch socks)
We pegged our pants or tucked our pant legs into our big scrunchy socks, big bangs, and to highlight our hair we used peroxide! Strange things we did!
There are so many! Body suits, Panda rings, bomber jackets, HUGE bangs, layered socks… I have to blog about it now. Thanks for the idea!
LOL… big bangs (I went to HS in West Texas), friendship bracelets, the friendship necklaces that were a broken heart and one side said “Be frie” and the other side said “st nds”
Tight leggings with baggy shirts, leg warmers. Oh, and does anyone else remember the collars flipped up? yeah, we looked sooo cool back in the day, lol.
Oh I remember jelly shoes! And leg warmers, friendship bracelets and gummy bracelets. I also am ashamed to admit I had a hair crimper! Ugh! What were those things about?
Guess Jeans were huge where I was from. And, of course, my mother was *not* about to spend that much money of a pair of jeans. Leather bomber jackets and Coke jackets were big too.
Oooh and how about those circle things you put your t-shirt through to put your t-shirt on your hip?
