I noticed that our statcounter and our sitemeter say different things….we have our personal IP addresses blocked from being counted on both of them (mine, alicia, and tonis).
The top one is statcounter (the only two full days we have for them are sunday and today, i installed it late saturday) Green is page views, blue is unique hits and yellow are returning users.
This is our sitemeter for today
Why are they so different? A few people have mentioned Google analytics? Thanks for your help!! As we go on, I want to make sure I understand. I prefer stat counter stats…LOL. They apparently look prettier.

I’m using sitemeter and I just hit 1000 views!!!
I use Site Meter.
I use SiteMeter and Blog Patrol…I love BP because it lists the searches that lead to my site and I make a regular post of the funny ones!
Sitemeter has been pretty close to Google analytics for me…Google showed 321 yesterday Sitemeter showed 300.
I don’t know….I couldn’t find where sitemeter says how long before they are treated as a unique visitor. All it says is this:
When you are browsing a site, every time you follow a link to a new web page, it is treated as a single page view. Site Meter defines a visit as a series of page views by one person with no more than 30 minutes in between page views. If you click on a link to another site, and then come back to your site within 30 minutes, you are still on the same visit and Site Meter won’t increment the counter. But Site Meter will increment the number of page views recorded for your current visit.
Everything I’ve read about stats says they will never be the same because they all log different things.
SO i should leave it on sitemeter, those are more accurate.
Damn. LOL!!
trisha
yup
i mean statcounter. COnfusing.
Ok, found it. Statmeter says 2 hours..so if someone comes back in under 2 hours, they are a returning user and if they come back OVER 2 hours, they are a new user and the count starts again.
So sitemeter must not do that.
ok, let me go look
I think statcounter resets “unique” hits sooner maybe…does that make sense?
I’m here probably 30 or so different times and if it is resetting your unique hits every 30 minutes, I only have a 30 minute cookie before it counts me as new. I think you can change that somewhere.
its just wierd that sitemeter is 720 so far today and statcounter is 908…..the must be set up to count for seperate types of hits?
I promise analytics doesn’t look half as nice as the stat counter when it comes to hits. But, it is very accurate on who visited that day and from where, etc. I like it better for looking at individual hits. But stat counter for the overall.
I only have sitemeter on mine, sorry no help here.
