Wild Planet made Charlotte go Wild! (closed)

Every now and then we get the opportunity to test out a product, which is great. Its even better when that product is a TOY. I am not sure who was more excited to see what mystery toy came in the mail, my daughter or I. When we opened it, there was a collective “ooooooohhhhhhh”. I hadn’t even seen this toy yet and it looked just short of totally awesome.

So we set up the toy, requiring a few batteries, and go to work setting it up. You HAVE to watch this video of my DH and daughter playing this game:

How is THAT video for a thumbs up from Charlotte (and did you enjoy my DH running around playing too? LOL)! What we loved about this game as a family, was that it involved getting up and moving around. There are so many video games in the market now a days, that what our kids really need is an incentive to move thier tooshes.

There are several levels of this game and it moves on from naming which animal to find, by colors, to phonics, to the sounds the animal makes, and really switches it up. Its also an easy set up for a child to just start the game by a simple push of the button and to put right on top of the animal.

Wild Planet says this about the toy:

What Animal Planet says:
Animal Scramble features an electronic hand-held tagger shaped like a giraffe and four fist-sized friends (a monkey, parrot, tiger and elephant). The giraffe calls out which animals kids should run to and tag and tracks the amount of time taken to complete each course. In team mode, kids are instructed to pass the giraffe to other players as they work cooperatively to achieve their fastest time.

The giraffe houses a microchip that uses Radio Frequency Identification to recognize the different animal targets, which can be set up side-by-side, or spread out across the length of a football field. There is no limit to the distance between targets. Farther targets result in more running and exercise. When the giraffe is placed over the correct animal, the circuit is complete and the players advance.

As the game progresses, the commands become more challenging. In early levels, the giraffe calls out the first letter or full name of the animal to tag. Once kids master the names, the game adds in animal sounds, colors and characteristics. (Who says roar? Who is orange? Who has stripes?) These questions help kids learn to identify single objects in multiple ways.

Animal Scramble requires physical exertion through running, bending, reaching and tagging movements that aid in the development of large and small muscle groups while improving coordination and motor skills. The sharing, listening and turn-taking aspects of the game practice positive social behaviors. Played indoors or out, solo or in teams, Animal Scramble keeps kids up on their feet, expending energy and having fun.

Requires 3 AA batteries, not included.
Recommended Ages: 3-5 / Players: 1-6

To keep the kids active and to keep them from watching too much tv, we go on family walks or play in the backyard. We also have a wii, so that makes it a little easier to get the kids moving if they are desperate to play a video game.

We play outside quite a bit and I have the boys race their trikes to keep busy, they help me water the plants and pick the tomatoes. We also go to yard sales and we will walk the block as we go!

OH and for a second entry:
I view the TV as a babysitter and try to use it only when I need it. That doesn’t stop my daughter for asking for it though. It’s easy to distract her if I’m going to play with her. I try to do at least one activity or craft together each day that is more than just playing with her toys. She also likes to help me cook and clean. I try to slow down and be patient and let her help.

We live in a rambler, so we have a circular path going through the living room & kitchen. My husband will be the monster, in one spot in the living room. The girls will race through the kitchen & living room trying not to get caught. Sometimes it’s a counting game. The person who goes past on 30 or whatever gets caught. Once you are caught, you are tickled within an inch of wetting your pants or spewing your chocolate milk.

It’s good times. I don’t like to watch.

one of the ways we keep the kids moving is by playing hide and seek. They love it and being that my kids are 1 (almost 2) and 4 they RUN everywhere.

Another thing that we do is play outside as much as possible. Gotta love wireless internet so mama can still do her thing while they play! ;)

We stay active all year with two activities: swimming and biking. Our local YMCA is so cheap to join, and they have an ENCLOSED pool! So, we swim year-round! The kids beg to go instead of watch TV! And, we make sure that we ride our bikes at least twice a week – sometimes to the park to play, sometimes to gymnastics or piano, but we’re always riding somewhere!

My kids are older and would LOVE Hyper-Dash, which is basically the same game but for older kids! How much fun is that????

I do have to say, though, that I could TOTALLY see using this Animal Scramble game with my pre-k class…especially during our animal study in the spring! Talk about fun!

Audrey takes a dance lesson twice a week and swim lesson once a week. We also rented a house with pool so she and I usually escape out to there inthe afternoons for some outdoor excercise heavy fun.

Love the video, Trisha! My little one was watching along cheering! I’m sure your hubby is proud he tied :)

We like the Spy Gear Agent Tool Kit on their site. Since little one is always pretending to be a secret agent it’s very fitting. But I have a feeling Animal Scramble will be going on the Christmas list too.

What we do with our kids is take them to the park or just for a walk to get their exercise and their wiggles out or we even just let them go with us when we get the mail (we live in an apartments so it is a nice little walk) We only allow them to watch one movie a day so the other times they are playing with their toys and such!

Wow, they have so many great things for when my daughter is older. I think she would enjoy a water baby. She’s reaching the age of liking dolls, and likes to imitate what I do, so this would be perfect for her.

I know my daughter would flip for the Water Baby in the pink ladybug outfit. How clever to have a doll that mimics the warmth, weight and feel of a real baby!
