World Discovery Box: A Must Have

Recently we got a World Discovery Box. I know what you’re thinking…what the heck is that. Well, its about the only child’s item left today that doesn’t involve electronics and flashing video parts and quite simply, it’s amazing. I had a sneak peek myself in all the little tiny drawers before Charlotte came over to “discover” on her own and we had a ball in our family pulling out each drawer and watching Charlotte naturally do what kids do best….see the world around them.

I just know Bridgette is going to love this. If you don’t know this about her, she is a scientist! World Discovery Box is this adorable little box with easy to pull out and take out drawers, all with a new “surprise” inside. Ours came with a collection of shells and bugs and a key finding sheet so we, as parents, could help out with the names and information on each one. I think that is the part my husband liked the best as you will see.

As a parent, it was great to be interactive where it didn’t involve an Xbox game or Wii remote. If you watch the video below, you can see it didn’t take long for it to turn into a family event. World Discovery Box comes in a mini box or a large box and I suggest the large one to get the most fun over and over again or if you have a large family. The cost isn’t much more and this is an item that you will use for years, so don’t undercut yourself.

wdbphoto3I can see this being inside every classroom and preschool in America, but what it should be is inside every household and toyroom. Learning IS fun when presented in the right environment and they have done that elegantly and in a way that makes it fun for everyone.

Here is an official description from their website:

Kids Explore Science and Nature with a Discovery Box

It is a multi-drawer collection box that comes with fossils, insects, geodes, shells and more. These exciting artifacts are only the beginning of the adventure as there is plenty of room in the drawers for items found here in our on-line catalog, or on backyard explorations, hikes in the woods and trips to the beach. Your Discovery Box will continuously grow and become an ongoing learning experience for your kids.

I am not sure about you all, but sometimes I can barely get Charlotte interested in spending 5 more minutes with a My Little Pony before she is bored. But at the end of our World Discovery Adventure she said, and I quote, “Let’s do it again!”.

While the video is long, I think if you grab your child and let them watch, you can experience Charlotte experiencing the wonders of what nature has already provided us with. Her reactions are true and genuine and I just could not turn the camera off since her expressions and quips were truly cracking me up.

(you will need to hit the sound button ON the video, it will not autoplay sound!)

I contacted World Discovery Box and they very generously agreed to donate a box to BloggersGive.com to pass on to the Center for Courageous Kids where the children at the camp can have the same discovery Charlotte did. Because of their donation, I did not ask them to provide us with a giveaway, although if they feel the reaction is really great here, then perhaps we can persuade them to do so, so make sure you leave a comment!

One more thing…..this is a toy that CHANGES. Because it involves “discovering”, we can change out the items in the drawer anytime we want and create a new day of fun for Charlotte. I plan on every time we go on vacation, to bring back something unique to slip into the drawer for Charlotte to find on her next adventure.

Not only would my boys love this Discovery Box, I would have gone crazy over it when I was a kid.
I’m not even joking; I used to assign reports to myself and sit there with an encyclopedia and write reports. FOR FUN. I still have one about volcanoes that I did for no reason when I was like 8.

What a great idea! We’ve been trying to find more activities that teach and get the little one hands on with things. I think I’d love it as much as my son would!

This sounds fun! Definitely for a classroom at that price. But I am already thinking of ways to create my own version to use at home with my lil guy. LOL

I love the innocence of “it’s rocks…” and then the wonder of the discovery of all the cool stuff that goes along with “rocks”!!! I love this!!! I can see even my older kids finding this entertaining. It would be a great way to pull them away from their video game addictions!

I mean, let’s face it, kids LOVE to discover new things. Amazing!!! (The camp is going to LOVE this!!!)
