This morning a pingback came through from some anonymous blogger that attacks other bloggers..you know, like the whole Poop on Peeps thing. For awhile I have wondered why I haven’t made Poop On Peeps. I mean, PR blackout, fat kid in airport, thongs, big fight with Jessica Gottlieb that made me quit twitter (we made up), kids in bikinis, douche-bag name calling, public outburst with General Mills….hello.
What does a girl have to blog around here to get some attention.
Anyway, the article was about how I blogged about kids in thongs “just for the traffic” and she connected that post and some update blog posts on my site regarding it.
Its a shame she didn’t connect it a year ago when I wrote it, but hey, Ill take what I can get, right?
The truth is, I DO blog for traffic. That’s not an insult, that’s the truth and I accept it. The entire blogosphere is in a constant quest for comments, interaction, speaker roles, travel invites, links, and page views.
Everyone is.
That is why people run parties and reviews and giveaways and stress over statistics and twitter followers. You think we do this crap for fun? Anyone who thinks that has clearly never been a full time blogger.
People who write for themselves, journal.
People who write for everyone else, blog.
Whether its due to ads, quest of Internet fame, or just to have your voice heard, whatever your role is, claim it.
2 years ago I may have been offended. I may have jumped up and said OMG, I did NOT write that article for traffic. Because at the time, as a newer blogger, I was in shock over the situation and I really wanted to debate it and share it. I was so freaking ignorant. People don’t know how to debate and share opinions…ahh, I have learned so much.
But it turned into traffic.
Real life situations have a way of interesting people and after all, its not me pushing topics onto society, it’s society looking it up. We all have an opinion and I often provide an avenue to discuss those opinions. The irony is I get blogged about a lot…for traffic. Chew on that for a minute.
So this is my public statement so you no longer have to spit insults at me by stating I blogged about *fill in past, present or future topic* for traffic.
Yes. Yes, I do. And did. And will.
Have a nice day.

Traffic is my goal, but I don’t write controversial posts just for the traffic…actually I stay away from those.
I want to make clear I’m not insinuating you do that, just putting it out there. I am sure there are bloggers who do and that’s their thing.
i write wahtever i am thinking…but whether that is charlotte tying her shoes, a post on kids in bikinis, ripping PR, or a helpful tip on wordpress, im trying to gauge interaction, comments, traffic, and hopefully future readers as a result.
I think it’s possible to have a blog and not give a damn who reads it. However, I think those people are few and far between. Typically, if you have a blog, you want traffic for it or what’s the point? Especially if you’re monetizing it. And why is it embarrassing to admit you want traffic? I want traffic and I work my ass off for it and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
I’ve always blogged for traffic and proud of it!
and you are doing really well!!! im impressed matt, really!
I think you can be a journalist AND a blogger. You would put the post up if no one read it and you’re happy when they do. It doesn’t have to be either/or.
yeah, im not a journalist. I can barely put a sentence together.
Like THAT was a hard one to figure out! We all blog for traffic.
This chick was a real Einstein, huh? Did she just get off the short bus or what?
Blogger = Traffic Whore Anyone who says different is lying.
i was afraid there for a minute i hadnt made that clear 123123 times before. But i KNOW i have.
But of course I blog for traffic LOL
Let’s see, to point a finger at a blogger with lots of “traffic”… I wonder, would that maybe bring lots of “traffic” over to YOUR blog?
NO, that wouldn’t happen? Would it? Hey, maybe I should try that… Oh, I think I did once or twice (but in a really GOOD way)… That’s because I want traffic, too! I want people to notice me.
i think i better start vacuuming and put on pearls…
I would say your statement about people blogging about YOU for traffic is right on. I mean why would this anonymous blogger take the time to blog about a year old post if it wasn’t for their own traffic and attention? Very Ironic.
Clearly, this person..the author..isn’t a blogger, no?
Um…isn’t that what we all try to do? Haha!
Hey, how come the recommended ad for me at the top is about “How to Lose Your Love Handles” GASP! I’m appauled and insulted and it’s all your fault!! You calling me a fat kid?
Wait that wasn’t the topic at hand was it. I’m sorry I was too busy picking up random rocks on the ground to throw at you simply because you’re there.
Loved that statement about a journal vs a blog. Of course I blog for traffic, hello I’m a review/giveaway blogger. I wouldn’t be one without the traffic, dur.
Isn’t that why people blog? I know that’s why I blog about the Army and what it’s REALLY like for us families. I WANT people to see what I write. I *gasp* want traffic. The horror. The horror.
Traffic would be cool – I’d take some. People need to think about what they want out of blogging and when they do, they will realize traffic is an important part of that roadmap. People who say they don’t blog for traffic just haven’t thought about why they are blogging enough.
um. Yeah. Duh.
LOVE THIS! Oh so true! I wouldn’t take it as an insult and geez that person linking to you just gave you more traffic …. so I would be telling them thanks for the traffic, right!? LOL
I always wonder if those who blog and complain about the bigger blogs or more high traffic blogs are indeed doing that themselves for more traffic, I mean really otherwise what is the point?
That is a hoot. You are right everyone blogs for traffic and the fun of the replies from said traffic. I enjoy the the interaction with my bloggy friends. Isn’t that what blogging is all about? Anonymous people who slam us are just little cowards hiding behind their computer anyway. If you have something to say own it!
I think anyone who says that “traffic” isn’t one of their blogging goals is LYING.
If it wasn’t a goal, you’d be writing a private journal, not a public blog.
“Traffic” is different than “readers” (meaning they come back to read more) but without traffic, you sort of can’t gain readers either….
And I wonder why they would post something pointing fingers? To get traffic maybe?
Don’t we ALL blog for traffic? If no one was reading why would we type. So what you decide to be more controversial. If people don’t like it then maybe they should stop being the one to spread your word for you haha!
Amen, sister. It’s easy for the “famous” bloggers to criticize us lesser known bloggers (like me) about our role in the blogosphere. I have openly admitted that I blog reviews, giveaways, my opinions and journal my life all for traffic to get me noticed and be seen as a serious writer. All the above leads readers to my blog and I feel supports my ultimate goal: to become a published author.
GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
Don’t we all blog for traffic?? At least I know I do. comments make my day. Hope you have a nice day too, Trisha!
