ZIGGY MARLEY ‘FAMILY TIME’ Ipod Giveaway! 6-1 CLOSED
A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Ziggy Marley first sat in on recording sessions with his father, Bob Marley, when he was ten years old. Joining with his three siblings to become The Melody Makers, Ziggy crafted his own soulful sound blending blues, R&B, hip-hop and reggae, winning three Grammy Awards.
He has contributed to a variety of soundtracks including 50 First Dates and Shark’s Tale, in which he delved into acting for the first time, playing the character of Bernie, the Jamaican jellyfish.
In addition to his skills as a singer, songwriter and producer, Ziggy founded U.R.G.E. (Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment), a non-profit organization that benefits a wide range of charitable children’s causes in Jamaica, Ethiopia and other developing nations. More recently he has thrown his support behind the Youth AIDS campaign.
Ziggy Marley is bringing music to the LITTLE people! He is releasing his first children’s album and has invited some family and pretty cool friends to join him on it. Jack Johnson, Laurie Berkner, Elizabeth Mitchell and Jamie Lee Curtis are only a few of the artists featured on the CD Family Time, in stores May 5th. In addition to some well known classics like “This Train” and “Hold Him Joe” Ziggy has written many original songs on this release which are endearing tributes to his family with many sage words of wisdom for kids.
He says: “Growing up, music was an important part of my childhood. I see it being just as important in my children and all children’s growth and development, to help them grow with open minds and open hearts… This record represents my daily family life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my creativity.”

I learned from the website that Ziggy worked with Willie Nelson on his latest album, now that is very cool, and although initially unexpected, now that I think about it, it makes sense, two music greats, music genius’ working together, I have to hear this!
Music has always been a very important aspect of our children’s lives. Even before they were born I always had music playing and I would sing and hum to all 3 of my babies. Music is great for invoking and stimulating their artistic side, bring out their creative side. It helps to keep them active, grounded, entertained, and is great for hand and eye coordination at a young age when you provide them with musical instruments, the toy kind, you know?! Thank you so much for the chance to enter. I know our children will really enjoy this CD as they already love listening to all types of music genres and reggae is one of them!
Music has always been important, I grew up with a dad who had the largest record (yea, I know I’m dating myself) collection, and he would put music on and we would all dance and sing around the house, and in the car on road trips. I brought that love to MY children, music can bring you out of a funk when you are upset, or can make you laugh when you are happy. I can remember singing really loud in the car with my boys and just laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes. Now they both play guitar, and the youngest is in a band.
At Ziggy’s site, I learned that he is currently on tour, and that recent Billboard Magazine results show Family Time as #1 in Reggae. Thank you!
For kids, music is inspiring and energizing – and it exposes them to a new creative outlet which lets them dance and sing along. Thanks!
