A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Ziggy Marley first sat in on recording sessions with his father, Bob Marley, when he was ten years old. Joining with his three siblings to become The Melody Makers, Ziggy crafted his own soulful sound blending blues, R&B, hip-hop and reggae, winning three Grammy Awards.
He has contributed to a variety of soundtracks including 50 First Dates and Shark’s Tale, in which he delved into acting for the first time, playing the character of Bernie, the Jamaican jellyfish.
In addition to his skills as a singer, songwriter and producer, Ziggy founded U.R.G.E. (Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment), a non-profit organization that benefits a wide range of charitable children’s causes in Jamaica, Ethiopia and other developing nations. More recently he has thrown his support behind the Youth AIDS campaign.
Ziggy Marley is bringing music to the LITTLE people! He is releasing his first children’s album and has invited some family and pretty cool friends to join him on it. Jack Johnson, Laurie Berkner, Elizabeth Mitchell and Jamie Lee Curtis are only a few of the artists featured on the CD Family Time, in stores May 5th. In addition to some well known classics like “This Train” and “Hold Him Joe” Ziggy has written many original songs on this release which are endearing tributes to his family with many sage words of wisdom for kids.
He says: “Growing up, music was an important part of my childhood. I see it being just as important in my children and all children’s growth and development, to help them grow with open minds and open hearts… This record represents my daily family life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my creativity.”

Music is very important to our children because it gives them a background of how music has grown and how it can influence our lives. My son loves to just listen and dance to music from the 80′s and hes only 2.5 yrs old. He loves to dance around with his little guitar and play his little keyboard like he was born to do it! We have to keep music going in a child’s life because it will help them grow and makes them happy!
Music is important because it gives my children their first sense of communication without words.
Music is important because it not only gets my boys active dancing around but it improves their mood and many songs can teach a lesson.
Music has always been important in our lives. It lifts our spirits when we are down and it is always fun to dance around the house with our children.
Music = joy, dancing, togetherness.
Music helps with his creativity!
Music has always been important to me in my life. I have been a student or a teacher of some sort of music since I was very young. I hope to instill a love for music in my children. One way that music has enhanced our life is through music my children learn in their primary class at church. I believe that music can be just as strong in teaching my children about Christ as me teaching them. We sing songs all the time to that have a message of love, Christ, family ect as well as those classic children songs.
Music has saved me from some real low times in my life. I have always played music for the kids since they were babies. All kinds of stuff. Now I have a boy who is a budding drummer always wearing his iPod and the other two love all kinds of music and are begging for their own ipods now. (So winning this would get me half way there!)
Music is just a natural mood enhancer. As soon as my toddler hears music, he instinctively starts grooving. It always makes me laugh. We encourage his development by exposing him to music quite often.
Music gets my grandkids up and off the floor and couch and gets them dancing and they exercise without knowing it.
Thank you so much for asking us to visit ziggy’s website, I learned that he will be appearing on May 6th in Tribeca and I hope to be able to attend, I wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for this contest, so I truly hope his people are reading our entries! Music is important for children it helps them develop, art and music are being cut from schools, which hurts our children, they don’t develop a love of art and music appreciation which help them as adults who travel in the world to appreciate all that surrounds them, both the familiar and the unknown!
Music makes the world go round. Great for young and old. I really enjoy music when you can understand the words and the song has meaning.
Music is important because it teachs rythem and self expression!
Thanks for entering me! Great Contest!

Children should be exposed to music as soon as possible. Over time they learn the that almost any emotion they feel can be expressed through music. Happy, sad, inspired, lonely, you name it. A song can be in a different language but you will still know the emotion because music touches our souls.
Its a great learning tool
