A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Ziggy Marley first sat in on recording sessions with his father, Bob Marley, when he was ten years old. Joining with his three siblings to become The Melody Makers, Ziggy crafted his own soulful sound blending blues, R&B, hip-hop and reggae, winning three Grammy Awards.
He has contributed to a variety of soundtracks including 50 First Dates and Shark’s Tale, in which he delved into acting for the first time, playing the character of Bernie, the Jamaican jellyfish.
In addition to his skills as a singer, songwriter and producer, Ziggy founded U.R.G.E. (Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment), a non-profit organization that benefits a wide range of charitable children’s causes in Jamaica, Ethiopia and other developing nations. More recently he has thrown his support behind the Youth AIDS campaign.
Ziggy Marley is bringing music to the LITTLE people! He is releasing his first children’s album and has invited some family and pretty cool friends to join him on it. Jack Johnson, Laurie Berkner, Elizabeth Mitchell and Jamie Lee Curtis are only a few of the artists featured on the CD Family Time, in stores May 5th. In addition to some well known classics like “This Train” and “Hold Him Joe” Ziggy has written many original songs on this release which are endearing tributes to his family with many sage words of wisdom for kids.
He says: “Growing up, music was an important part of my childhood. I see it being just as important in my children and all children’s growth and development, to help them grow with open minds and open hearts… This record represents my daily family life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my creativity.”

My kids love music especially my two youngest. My 2 y/o just feels the music and starts dancing and singing. It doesn’t matter which type of music, she loves it all. My dh works a lot of hours and overtime and when he’s home with the kids, he’ll sit at the computer with the kids and play all their favorite songs on youtube. He’ll hop from Elvis to Queen to Gorge Jones to Journey. He enjoys watching the kids sing along. It’s great to watch.

music is the best
We have always emphasized music in our family and with our children. My daughter plays piano and cello and my son plays saxophone. Would love this!!
I am telling you that life without music is a silent sin. I encourage my children to jam — jamming is the consummate interaction that family strive to obtain — a special confluence of happiness, sharing, respect, learning, loving and living. After encouraging this for so many years my kids surprised me recently on my 50th birthday with a song that they wrote for me. I cried in a surge of pride and joy that compared only to that which I felt at their birth.
Ziggy worked with Willie Nelson on his latest album – I love Willie!
My 4 year old loves to make up songs – great for her verbal skills and imagination
