A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Ziggy Marley first sat in on recording sessions with his father, Bob Marley, when he was ten years old. Joining with his three siblings to become The Melody Makers, Ziggy crafted his own soulful sound blending blues, R&B, hip-hop and reggae, winning three Grammy Awards.
He has contributed to a variety of soundtracks including 50 First Dates and Shark’s Tale, in which he delved into acting for the first time, playing the character of Bernie, the Jamaican jellyfish.
In addition to his skills as a singer, songwriter and producer, Ziggy founded U.R.G.E. (Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment), a non-profit organization that benefits a wide range of charitable children’s causes in Jamaica, Ethiopia and other developing nations. More recently he has thrown his support behind the Youth AIDS campaign.
Ziggy Marley is bringing music to the LITTLE people! He is releasing his first children’s album and has invited some family and pretty cool friends to join him on it. Jack Johnson, Laurie Berkner, Elizabeth Mitchell and Jamie Lee Curtis are only a few of the artists featured on the CD Family Time, in stores May 5th. In addition to some well known classics like “This Train” and “Hold Him Joe” Ziggy has written many original songs on this release which are endearing tributes to his family with many sage words of wisdom for kids.
He says: “Growing up, music was an important part of my childhood. I see it being just as important in my children and all children’s growth and development, to help them grow with open minds and open hearts… This record represents my daily family life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my creativity.”

Music’s calming, inspiring, and creative! It stirs the imagination, and calms the soul
Over on the site, I learned that he’s earned 4 Grammys. (I loved him in his role in Sharks Tale!)
Music is important for my little one because it’s a great way to express himself, loudly. It also helps with creativity, he makes up songs, makes instruments, etc.

Listening to music is a fun way for a child to learn.

Music is important in my sons life because i feel it can keep him connected to different cultures. Music is a way of expression and when kids understand that, they can benefit so much from it.
I like his support for Child abuse prevention
Music helps the brain develop and children who play musical instruments do better on math and science tests as they get older. I introduced music when my son was a baby and he plays 3 instruments and excells at school.
On Ziggy’s website I learned that Ziggy’s first solo performance came in Summer 2002 on the Jeep World Outside Festival, where he toured with Sheryl Crow and other artists.
Music is important because it gives children a chance to express themselves and it allows them to have fun.
Ziggy’s guiltiest pleasure is Coconut Cupcakes… they do sound yummy.
Music is important because we use it to calm down, we use it to fall asleep to it and it’s great way to get exercise by dancing to music.

Music is important on so many levels! You can calm them down or hype them up just by changing the beat
I didn’t know that it was his brother Stephen and artist Sean Paul who he sang “Three Little Birds” with in Shark Tales. I knew it was him singing it but not the other two so I think that is cool as we listen to Sean Paul too.
Music is important in my childrens’ lives because it gives them a chance to express themselves in a different way each day. I can tell the kind of mood they are in by what they listen to. If it’s Reggae I know they are feeling mellow and happy, Heavy Metal means they are anxious about something, and ballads usually mean they are upset and just need their space.
For fun and a reason to laugh we all listen to Pop or Techno and dance around the living room.
I learned that U.R.G.E.IZiggy’s charity) is registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization.
