Best Smartwatch For Kids: Review and Buying Guide

Is your child begging for a smartwatch? Whether they want to be just like mom and dad, or you want peace of mind, we have a round-up of the best smartwatch for kids.

When looking to purchase a smartwatch, keep in mind what you want the smartwatch functions to be. For very young kids, they may just want their first bit of technology. In many cases, you don’t need to have the ability to make and receive calls. Many of the best smartwatches for kids options include watches with clocks, alarms, and a few games with no calling or messaging abilities.

On the other hand, you may be looking for a way to “keep an eye” on your loved one as they venture out of your sight. In this case, you want to look for a smartwatch that has LBS or GPS tracking, and the ability to make and receive calls.

Thankfully, we have done the work for you and rounded up a list to find the best smartwatch for kids.

  1. GBD Waterproof Kids Smartwatch

This GBD waterproof kids smartwatch is a great option that has it all and our top choice! The waterproof feature can be used in water depth up to 10 meters for up to 10 minutes. It also has the features that kids love including a LED flashlight, camera, and digital games. When you purchase a 2G GSM sim card and operate the watch in a 2G network, the phone and location services are available.  Using a network, such as Speedtalk, will allow functions such as a two-way call and voice chat.

Speedtalk is part of the T-Mobile network and can be purchased at a relatively low cost per month. Check Speedtalk coverage here. Other features include alarm clock, history tracking, SOS, remote voice monitoring, and a do not disturb period. Your child may also be excited about the camera feature, however, the watch does not have storage capacity. The watch can only save one picture at a time. When other photos are taken, the original is replaced.

Features:

  • Two-way call
  • Voice chat
  • Waterproof
  • LED flashlight
  • Camera
  • Alarm clock
  • History Tracking
  • Remote voice monitoring

  1. LDB Direct Kids

If you are looking for an all-around good smartwatch, then consider the LDB direct smartwatch for kids. This waterproof smartwatch can be used with or without a SIM card. A SIM card does not come with the watch. The basic features are a watch, camera, flashlight, stopwatch, and a digital game. To use other features you will need to purchase a SIM card. With the addition of the SIM card and linking a phone, you can set alarms, locate the watch, voice message, two-way call, and use the class time feature.

The class time feature will disable other functions besides the watch while your child is in school. This way you don’t have to be worried that they are getting distracted by the watch at school. Without the SIM card, this watch can be suitable for a 3-year-old. When your child gets older, you may choose to add the SIM card and other functions as needed. In this way, the watch can “grow” with your child. The watch comes in blue and pink.

Features:

  • USB charging cable
  • Waterproof (not for in the shower)
  • LBS location
  • SOS emergency alarm
  • Two-way call
  • 10 number telephone book

Wrap up

By now you can see there are many options for the best smartwatch for kids. The most important thing to keep in mind while shopping is what functions are the most important for you. For my 4 year old’s first smartwatch, we chose to go with a watch that would mainly have a watch face and a few fun features. We didn’t need the calling features at this age.

However, it is nice to have the option to add calling features with a SIM card and plan. Smartwatches can be a great bridge before your child is ready for their own cellphone. A smartwatch with calling features will allow you to stay in contact and monitor their location.
