I think we have all said, especially as parents after a long day, “let’s play the quiet game.” Typically this consists of no one speaking until a child, usually after about 14 seconds, giggles and they are out. Basically, it never works. But in my house, we DO play the quiet game. And this is not some big DIY and how to that you usually expect from me, but I still wanted to share the idea and inspiration because
1) it’s fun
and
2) it works
Let’s Play the Quiet Game
- Set up a variety of pots and pans in a staggered row in your hall or living area
- Give your kids a bag full of cotton balls – the more you give them, the longer the game, so gather a lot!
- Create a line they cannot go across with a different point structure per pan (ex: 10 points for the furthers pan, 1 point for the closest)
- Let them throw, throw, throw, throw!

The goal is simply to get the cotton balls IN the pans. Trust me, it’s hard, but it can be done. You have to figure out the best way to throw something as light weight as a cotton ball and kids get a kick out of it. The best part is when the cotton balls hit the pan you hear nothing but silence.
Beautiful, golden silence, hence- the quiet game.
Now the only sound you will hear is laughter! Enjoyed this idea? Make sure you follow me on Pinterest where I share all my household and family friendly ideas.
