Baby Tries a Lemon

My friend Debbie from SimplePlate showed me a video she saw on babies trying out lemons for the first time and encouraged me to test it out with little P. I personally love lemons, although I don’t eat them raw (just the juice in recipes) but it’s a fruit, so why not.

As you will see in the video, we couldn’t get P to actually pick UP the lemon, but he did get juice on his fingers.

Here is his reaction:

Of course my older daughter Charlotte asked if she could have them when he was done. She loves lemons.

Have you tried a lemon taste testing with your baby?

He is such a cutie! I’ve never done this with my kids when they were babies. I would have expected a stronger reaction though. Such a cute baby!

I love lemons! I think I tried giving it to Hunter when he was a baby. He did not like it LOL.

My husband would tell you I am E-V-I-L … but I used to do this to my kids ALL.THE.TIME. And then I would bust out laughing at their faces! So, when I watched P, I busted out with the same laugh … hubs says “Honey?!” … he knew what I was about to say! 🙂

Cute! I’ll have to try it with my youngest soon. My oldest would just eat the lemon and love it.

Loved the look on his face the first time he got a taste of the juice. My dad use to sprinkle a little salt on the lemon and pop it on his mouth.

ah cute! In Florida we have access to ‘sweet lemons’ which are a bit easier to eat. I like to oven bake lemons which brings out a bit more sweetness. Just slice very thin and put on a baking sheet and bake for just a few minutes, then cool and eat.

I have a funny story. My daughter started drinking orange juice at about 1 year old. Then when she was a little over 2 years old I decided she could try orange slices, so I sliced up an orange into wedges and put it on her high chair tray. She bit into the first one, stopped, looked up at me with the most amazed/surprised look and said; “Mommy! There’s Orange Juice in here!!!” What a delightful memory!

At 9 months old K kept reaching for the lemon at the table. I was sure she wouldn’t like it, but I gave it to her. She LOVED it. She has loved lemons ever since, she begs for them at restaurants. Lemons and capers!

I love this! We tried it with our son about 6 weeks ago and he didn’t even react, just kept eating it like it was the most delicious thing he had ever tasted. We have yet to give him something to eat that he doesn’t like!
