Right off the bat, the Breville Custom Bread Maker is pretty darn expensive at a few hundred dollars. (It definitely wouldn’t make the cut on our Best Bread Maker Under $100 list).

Although, for the price, you get a rather excellent machine. First off, it’s all automatic. Many bread makers on the market require you to insert ingredients, such as fruits and nuts, by hand at a certain time during the baking process. With the Breville Custom Bread Maker, you just have to empty the contents into their respective compartments and let the bread maker do all the work for you!

The kneading paddle is unique in that it’s collapsible, and thoroughly kneads all ingredients together before it collapses pre the baking phase of the bread maker to minimize the hole at the bottom of the baked loaf of bread. It has a modern, sleek LCD screen that displays 13 automatic settings, 3 crust colors, and 4 loaf sizes including 1 pound, 1.5 pounds, 2 pounds, and 2.5 pounds; along with stainless steel dials and buttons.

The Breville Custom Bread Maker also comes with a recipe book containing 46 step-by-step bread recipes including basic, whole wheat, gluten-free, sweet, yeast-free, and more to help get you started. Another cool thing about the Breville is that it has an automatic power interruption protection setting that keeps the bread maker cooking for up to an hour, even if your power goes out or is interrupted momentarily!

The nearly 17-pound, bulky bread machine sits atop rubber feet that keep it sturdy and prevent any “walking” while the machine is making bread. That said, because the Breville is quite large, it does take up a significant amount of counter space that you may or may not have in your kitchen.

Both the paddle and the bread pan are removable, making emptying the bread and cleaning up after the bread making a breeze.

Advantages of the Breville Custom Bread Maker

This bread maker is automatic and is a “set and forget” machine. You can put your fruit and other additional items in the dispenser and the bread maker will do the work for you, adding the fruits or nuts at the right time and kneading it perfectly into the dough.

The Breville is also pleasantly quiet to run and isn’t obnoxiously loud. You could even set the delay timer for the following morning and go to sleep without any worry.

The rubber feet of the Breville Bread Maker along with the weight of the machine keeps it in place so that it won’t move on your countertop during the baking process. You won’t have to worry about it sliding or “walking” like some other, lighter bread makers on the market.

Cleaning up is made simple with the removable paddle and bread pan. Hot water and dish soap do the trick to remove stuck bits of dough on the paddle and bread on the inside of the pan. It’s a good idea to soak these items to make it easier to remove bits and pieces of bread.

The different loave sizes and colors allow you to have variety in what you cook, making the Breville an excellent choice for small families, large families, and for baking for big gatherings or holidays! Not to mention all of the settings give you the freedom to try practically endless recipes with very little effort on your part.

Disadvantages of the Breville Custom Bread Maker

The greatest disadvantage of the Breville Custom Bread Maker is definitely the price. It’s not exactly what you’d call a budget buy, making this option less than ideal for those trying to stay within a tighter budget or for those who don’t know if a bread maker is right for them in the first place.

Another potential downside of the Breville is that it’s pretty bulky and large, weighing in at almost 17 pounds and taking up quite a bit of counter space. You’ll definitely want to be sure you have enough room for this machine before you dive all in and buy it.

Tips for Using a Bread Maker

Anyone can use a bread maker, but how do you use it to get the best results? Here are a few tips to get you the perfect bread every time!

  1. Measure your ingredients exactly. There’s no room in your little bread maker for too much dough, and overflowing can spell a kitchen disaster. Make sure that your ingredients are exact to the recipe and don’t use too much or too little of any given ingredient. Bread making is a delicate balance!
  2. Prepare your ingredients beforehand. You’ll have to toss in your ingredients one after the other into the bread maker, so to make things easier on yourself, measure out and gather each ingredient so that you’re not searching for the cranberries or missing any nuts.
  3. Get to know your user’s manual. All bread makers feature different settings and functions, so in order to know exactly how your machine works (and how it doesn’t work), be sure that you read the manual cover to cover.
  4. Warm the water. Water used in the bread maker should be warm and not cold. Before you get your bread maker going, warm the water so that you’re prepared.

The Verdict

Overall, there are more pros to the Breville Bread Maker than there are cons. The price plays a pretty large role in deciding whether or not to buy this product, however, if you’re someone who knows that you’ll be using your bread maker a lot and are interested in all of the settings then the Breville could definitely be an option for you. It’s super easy to use, has a ton of unique features, and really takes the pain, effort, and time out of baking bread at home.

No matter if you decide to buy the Breville or continue looking around for your perfect bread maker, we hope you enjoyed our Breville Custom Bread Maker Review! Happy baking!
