Sweet & Spicy Steak Skewers

The 4th of July may have come and gone, but that’s no reason to let the fireworks stop!  These Sweet & Spicy Steak Skewers pack an explosive taste that is sure to ignite your tastebuds.  This post is sponsored by Mirum, but opinions expressed are my own.  I only work with and share brands that I know and love.

With July well underway now, summer heat has hit full-force! I don’t know about you, but once the temperatures climb and the A/C ramps up, I head outside to cook our dinner as much as possible!  Read more about my love of grilling {here}.

Ahhh. I love grilling.

Sometimes with the sun glaring down and the grill fired up, I want my food to have just as much heat to it. These Sweet & Spicy Steak Skewers do the trick!

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 pounds petite sirloin steak
  • 6 Tbsp. granulated white sugar
  • 2/3 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 Tbsp. toasted sesame seeds, pulsed in a blender to crush
  • 1 Tbsp. chili garlic sauce
  • Thinly sliced green onions or chopped cilantro, optional

THE HOW-TO

Start with Petite Sirloin Steak. You’ll need to slice them into thin strips. To make that job a cinch, put your steaks in the freezer for about 30 minutes to allow them to firm up just a bit. That will make cutting them MUCH easier!

While you’re waiting out your freeze time, warm a nonstick pan on medium heat. Place your sesame seeds in the dry pan. Stir them (or flip them if you’re feeling fancy!) occasionally, until they’re toasted. Keep a close eye on them, they’ll burn quick!

When they’re a nice golden brown, set them aside to cool slightly.

Once cooled, pulse them in a spice grinder (or a food processor, blender, or mortar and pestle.  I’m not choosy!) a time or two to crush them.

When your steaks are firm (not frozen!), pull them out of the freezer. Cut them against the grain into ¼-inch slices.

In a large resealable bag, combine soy sauce, sugar, crushed sesame seeds, and chili garlic sauce.

Here’s your heat! Start with ½ Tablespoon. Taste it. If you can handle more, feel free to add it in. Let your taste buds be the judge.

Mix your marinade in the bag and add your steak slices to it.  Make sure to really incorporate all meat, massaging the marinaded beef thoroughly. Refrigerate if for 4 hours.

When you’re ready to eat, fire up the grill!

Crank that heat! You want it hot, hot, hot!

While your marinated steak strips chills in the refrigerator, place your wooden skewers in a shallow dish filled with enough water to cover all skewers.  Making the skewer moist will allow for an easier release of the cooked meat.

Pull your steak out of the refrigerator and thread your steak sliced onto your skewers; discard remaining marinade.

Head out to the grill.

It won’t be long now! This magic happens FAST!

Put the skewers on the grill for two or three minutes, tops.

I mean it! That’s it!

Then flip and grill it for another two or three minutes.

Ooooo. That makes my mouth water!  Get in my belly!!

That’s it! How quick and easy was that?!

Pile them up and sprinkle with cilantro and green onions.

That’s worth a party!

  6. If desired, sprinkle with thinly sliced green onions & chopped cilantro.

Unfortunately, not everyone in my family can easily enjoy these delicious, fiery skewers. My mother-in-law has suffered for years with chronic heartburn.

Before you get the wrong idea, my Mom-in-law is not the traditional Monster-in-Law that most people imagine when they hear that phrase. She is an angel! At family gatherings, it’s sad to see her forced to miss out on spicy dishes like this due to the pain and discomfort it will cause her later. That is why we are so grateful for Omeprazole.

Omeprazole’s same long-lasting heartburn relief is now available in an easy-to-take tablet that melts in your mouth to help #DissolveHeartburn. It truly is a grab-and-go convenience. No water needed!

Omeprazole Orally Disintegrating Tablet works just as well for her as Prilosec, but is the only frequent heartburn medication available in such a convenient, dissolve-on-your-tongue form.

Omeprazole ODT can provide a full day’s worth of heartburn relief, making it the perfect choice for frequent heartburn sufferers, like my sweet Mother-in-law.  Oh, and did I mention that it is strawberry-flavored?  Not only does it go down easy, it tastes great!  Click {here} to find a store near you!
