There is something amazing about going to a dog park.
The surrounding happy animals running around, the connection of like-minded animal people hanging out, and the pure fun of it all. My kids, in particular, adore dog parks. They see all sorts of breeds and behaviors and it really pushes a sense of community. This year I am proud to share, that as an animal adopter and volunteer myself, I am partnered with Beneful to bring awareness to the Friends of Beneful program. Several times this year I will be coming to you to share some of the amazing things Beneful is doing for the community and also all about the great options in pet food and care you can expect.
This month is a special one and I am so excited to let you know about it. Beneful has partnered with Go Fund Me to help bring new dog parks to communities around the US.
Dog parks strengthen the bond between us and our dogs, creating a positive ripple effect of joy that travels through our days, our communities and our lives. This is the remarkable Dog Park Effect and it’s why we started the Dream Dog Park Project.
What is the Beneful Dream Dog Park Project?
The Beneful Dream Dog Park Project helps further Beneful’s mission of celebrating the joyful life dogs and owners share together by supporting dog park improvement and construction projects across the U.S. Since 2010, we’ve helped bring dog park dreams to life in more than a dozen communities, and we’ve seen firsthand the positive effect that dog parks have on both dogs and owners. In 2016, Beneful will support at least 12 dog park projects in the U.S. by improving existing parks and helping get new projects off the ground through a mix of financial support, hands-on volunteerism and shared dog park expertise.
You can find dog parks that have been supported by visiting here.
How to start your own Dog Park
Head over to Beneful where they have gathered some great information for the dog loving community on how to create your own dog park from start to finish. In fact, here is a how to guide that gives some great information on how you can get your project started today! Here are two great points to start
- Talk to Your Community: Talk to your friends and neighbors to determine the need and desire for a dog park near you. From our survey, we found more than a quarter of dog owners said they agree their local dog park is a great place to bring people and dogs from the community together. So there’s interest! You’ll want a group of supporters on board before moving forward with talking to City or government officials in order to demonstrate the greater community interest and need. From this group, identify volunteers willing to help you move a project forward and share your commitment.
- Make Your Mission for the Park Clear: With the collaboration of your neighbors and project supporters, articulate why a new dog park is important and necessary for your community. Being able to speak to the mission will make it that much easier to get the proper approvals and garner wider community support.
