Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Lip Scrub: Heal Your Winter Damaged Lips

Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Lip Scrub

I cannot believe that we are already at the end of March.  This year is already well on its way to speeding by faster than last year!  Seeing as Mother’s Day is only seven weeks away, I thought I’d show you a simple and inexpensive homemade gift idea that you, your kids, or your husband (*wink, wink*) could make for the Special Women in their lives:

Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Lip Scrub.

I’m not sure if your lips have taken the beating that mine have, but winter always does a number on my mouth.  While taking my Tyson to the doctor last month, the doctor commented that he needed some Chapstick.  “You need to stop licking your lips.  You’re digesting your lips.”  I had never heard it explained like that before, and he could tell.  My thoughtful facial expressions aren’t very hard to read.

“Saliva has digestive enzymes.  When you lick your lips, the enzymes immediately start working, breaking down the tender, delicate skin around your mouth.”  And now you know.

Using only a few simple ingredients, you can arm yourself with an effective homemade tool to reverse the damaging effects of winter.

Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Diy Lip Scrub to the rescue!

Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Lip Scrub Ingredients:

  • 4 ½ tbsp. Brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp. Honey
  • 1 tbsp. Avocado oil
  • 1 drop Clove essential oil

How to Make Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Lip Scrub:

Pour one tablespoon of honey into a small mixing bowl.

Add in 1 tablespoon of avocado oil to the small bowl.

Mix in 1 drop of Clove essential oil.

Mix in 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Stirring until you get a smooth mixture.

Mix in 4 ½ tablespoons of brown sugar.  Do not be tempted to use white sugar here– Brown Sugar ONLY!

Combine completely.

Store the brown sugar and cinnamon lip scrub in a small container, airtight. When ready to use, place a small amount of the scrub on your dry lips, working it in with a circular motion. Let it sit for a few minutes, and rinse off the scrub and dead skin cells with warm water.  Follow up with you favorite lip balm.

What Makes Homemade Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Lip Scrub MAGIC?!

  • Brown sugar is a natural exfoliant, and is much more gentle than other exfoliant options, including granulated sugar.
  • Cinnamon is a natural lip plumper, it can make your lips appear fuller.
  • Honey is a natural moisturizer, and also has antibacterial properties.
  • Avocado oil is a great moisturizer for lips, as it is an oil that takes longer to be absorbed by the skin.  Olive oil or Coconut Oil, for example.
  • Clove is another natural lip plumper. It can gently irritate lips without pain, and make them appear to be more full.
