Saturday my kids started down the road of sick. It’s the one thing parents dread every season and we have so far been relatively lucky, so I manned up (Womaned up?) and hit this cold head on. Thankfully my kids are pretty good when sick. Even though Phoenyx started puking, he put on a brave face and just dealt with it. I can’t get either one of my kids in bed when sick. They insist on using the ‘no school’ time to run around the house and play.
I think they get that inability to sit still from me.
And because I don’t take them out anywhere when sick (you’re welcome), we all get a bit of cabin fever after three days. So yesterday I broke out the paint, grabbed our God given feet, and we created a seriously fun, yet contained, mess. Now I am not one of those moms that are afraid to get messy. In fact, I relish in it. And you should too! I can’t tell you how many times we have had flour all over the kitchen, baking soda and vinegar exploding, and tons of “car washes” that have gone astray. I am also serious about clean up time and my kids get that, so they take full advantage of playing hard.
Are you ready to break out of the mold and get messy? Here is a fun idea that contains it just a tad. It’s also helpful if you do this on a tiled floor.
All you need is:
- tri-fold poster board
(science board)
- Crayola washable paint
(don’t use acrylic)
- sponge brushes
- feet
Now paint those feet!! And get in there mom, you paint yours…then STOMP STOMP STOMP! We experimented with different colors on our feet. This silly little craft time kept him busy for over an hour. When I tired from it, he kept painting, stomping, and repainting. I think he even forgot he was sick for awhile.
Clean up is easy. If you used the Washable Crayola Paints, it’s as simple as rolling up your pants to your knees and dropping your feet in the tub.
Have fun!
