FAQs
Q: Is it better to use butter or margarine for cookies?
A: Butter is always better, in our opinion. It has cream in it, so it makes a richer flavor and texture. However, if you love the original Country Crock cookies, this recipe is perfect. It’s a close call for those of us who grew up with margarine cookies. Plus, margarine can be used to make them dairy free if you need to. The result is really good, just not quite AS good.
Q: What is the secret to keeping cookies soft?
A: Butter will keep your cookies softer for longer than margarine. We bake the cookies at 375 so they brown faster on the outside and stay softer inside. Always store them in an airtight container to help keep them soft. You can also swap some of your white granulated sugar out for brown sugar. It will change the flavor of the cookie, but the molasses in brown sugar helps cookies stay softer for longer.
My husband loves soft sugar cookies with frosting, but I love the chewy kind.
I am all about a chewy sugar cookie recipe, all too often mine come out way too hard. I will give this recipe a try against the one I normally use, it’s always the kind of cookies I have ingredients on hand for!
