It’s no secret that I love rainbows. Any way I can sneak in swirly colors around here, I do. And whether its Unicorn poop cupcakes or awesome nebula jars, having a variety of colors in my life just makes me HAPPY. Which is why this Fairy Cinnamon Roll Recipe just makes me giddy!
If this is you too, I have a fun recipe that is perfect for a special child (or adult) in your life. Now I am not one of those parents that think you only get treats on your birthday. I am all about celebrating life and all the awesome things that go with it, so before I tell you to make this on a birthday, let me also say make this on any day.
In fact, I challenge you to make Fairy bread on a Monday just to get your week started off great! But no matter what day you make it on, birthday or to celebrate the last day of the week, the fact is that Fairy Cinnamon rolls are a serious treat and one that will delight your family, friends, or office.
Looking at the pictures below you probably think this is just cinnamon roll dough with sprinkles…but you are wrong. This is actually a combination of rolls and cake from the sticky flaky dough all the way down to the tasty yummy frosting. If you’re looking for our traditional Cinnamon Roll recipe click here.
Fairy Cinnamon Rolls
- 1 cup Funfetti cake mix
- 1 ½ tbsp. (2 pkgs) active dry yeast
- 2 cups very warm water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 5 cups bread flour
Filling
- 1 stick butter, softened
- 1 cup brown sugar
, packed
- ½ cup funfetti cake mix
- cinnamon
- rainbow sprinkles
Frosting
- ¼ cup butter, softened
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup funfetti cake mix
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3-6 Tbsp. milk
- Rainbow sprinkles
Directions:
Fairy Cinnamon Roll Recipe Instructions
In a small bowl, combine water and yeast and let it activate (foam up)
Once yeast is active pour into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add 1 cup funfetti cake mix
, salt and vanilla. Use dough hook attachment to mix ingredients together.
Add bread flour 1 cup at a time until well combined.
Grease the inside of a large bowl and place dough inside.
Cover with plastic wrap.
Let sit for an hour until doubled in size.
Punch dough down, cover again and let rise for an additional hour until double in size.
After the second rise, remove and place dough on a clean floured surface.
Roll out into a large rectangle shape.
Combine brown sugar, ½ cup cake mix and cinnamon in a small bowl
Spread softened butter over top.
Evenly distribute brown sugar mixture over the butter
Sprinkle with rainbow sprinkles
On one of the long sides, roll up to make a long and skinny log.
Slice into even rolls. It should yield 12- 16 rolls depending on how thick you slice them.
Place in a greased 9×13 baking pan
Cover with plastic wrap and let cinnamon rolls rise a final time in the pan, about 30 minutes, or until they have doubled in size.
Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.
While cinnamon rolls are baking, make the frosting.
In a large bowl, beat butter, powdered sugar, ½ cup cake mix, vanilla and milk.
Spread frosting over warm Fairy Cinnamon Roll rolls. Sprinkle with additional sprinkles if desired.
